This bears The cobalt-washed stamp of Loammi Kendall, who started a small stoneware manufactory around 1836 in Chelsea, just north of Boston. His production numbers were relatively small and his name is rarely mentioned in discussions of early New England potters(L. Watkins, pp.45-46) This appears to be one of Kendall's earlier Ovoids. The form is not perfect, and the top indented- most likely bottom-stacked in the kiln. The upper and lower handle terminals are primitively brushed with vibrant Cobalt, and there is a wonderful hand-carved stopper that sits perfectly in the spout. This piece has typical manufacturing imperfections(clay scars, stack marks, inclusions, etc. but no post-production flaws! Please see photos for further description and details. A fine, early example ... morewith a primitive character that will not disappoint. This 2Gal. Ovoid weighs 8.2 lbs and measures approximately 9-1/2"W x 12-3/4"H overall. The wood stopper adds another 1-1/2" 7-Days with No Reserve! I ship professionally and promptly with tracking and full insurance included. Antique Stoneware: 19thC. 1 Gal. Jug w/ Primitive Cobalt Decoration, *NR*
BEAUTIFUL 1 GALLON ANTIQUE STONEWARE/COBALT JUG featuring a handsome cobalt design. Jug is approximately 12" tall and the base diameter measures 7" There are no marker's marks. The handle is in great shape. There is. However, a chip out of the jug lip(see photo) It is quite smooth so it has probably been there for many years. There are a few small chips on the front(see photos) Again, they are smooth and appear quite old. There is a very thin and tight hairline 5" crack at the back of the jug which extends on to base of the jug- about 3" The jug appears quite stable and these imperfections do not distract from its charm and beauty. I am not an expert and selling in"as-is" condition. I am downsizing and have to let go of some of my treasures. Happy bidding! No minimum.

Antique Cobalt Blue Decorated Stoneware Jug; Old Salt Glaze 19th Century Pottery
Up for bids we offer a beautiful. 19th Century, 2 gallon, stoneware jug in exceptional condition. Right out of an estate, this salt glazed piece has a folksy, cobalt blue floral decoration on the front as well as an underscored number"2" above it. It was found in the western New York region and isn't signed by the pottery that produced it but there's a good chance it is a Lyons- Fisher or Burger jug. It has a gorgeous, dark, and earthy coloring along with that speckled, salt glazed surface. This piece is very well preserved and has only one small pitted type flaw near the handle. There are no other chips, not even around the spout or the bottom edge. The handle hasn't been broken and there aren't any cracks or hairlines anywhere on the piece. As a little bonus, we'll include the very nice, hand-carved wooden ... morestopper it was found with. The jug measures about 13 1/2 inches high with a bottom diameter of 8 1/4 inches while the very top measures 2 1/4 inches across. As far as condition goes, this is the nicest piece of decorated stoneware we have ever found. It would make a super addition to any collection and also a top notch example to start one off! We offer this quality piece of 19th Century Americana up for bids with no reserve. Good luck! On Mar-01-13 at 20:29:29 PST. 19th C A.K. Ballard Bennington Vt saltglaze 2 gal. stoneware jug w cobalt flower
Offered here as a buy it now or best offer is this 2 gallon A.K. Ballard(Bennington Vermont) salt glaze stoneware jug with a rather impressive floral cobalt decoration. Aside from some glaze drips the sole apology I can find is a barely perceptible'spider' to the side as shown in my last picture(the small'irregularities' to the glaze shown in my 9th and 10th pictures are. I believe, in the manufacturing of the jug) However, the spider is sufficiently tight and small that I'm not sure it isn't simply in the glaze(cant see, of course, that far into the interior of the jug) Nevertheless, as my pictures show, the cobalt is massive and impressive. ba sically encompassing the whole front-side of the jug. USPS domestic shipping with insurance will run $2 2. RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk.rp*3A%3Cd%3Ff6%3E-13df8b184b1-0xfd-

Little Speckled Brown Salt Glazed Stoneware Jug w/ Cobalt Blue Flower - Heavy!
Little Speckled Brown Salt Glazed Stoneware Jug w/ Cobalt Blue Flowers on both sides What a Wonderful addition to your collection! This is an Pennsylvania Estate Find. A Cobalt Decorated Stoneware Jug or Bottle. Now let me say, I am not a collector of Stoneware. I did however try to research this jug. I must have looked at Thousands of pieces of Stoneware, putting in every keyword I could think of for this type of slip or glaze, and could find nothing like it. I will welcome any idea's from a collector! I do not know it's exact age. It may be vintage, Antique, but it is not marked, like most modern pieces. It is quite beautiful. With it's speckled or mottled Brown with a slight Red Rust shading glaze or slip. I don't think it's Spongeware. And with the lighter clay base is seen dotted in background, those surface dots ... moreare indented. Giving it a slightly rough surface. The brown glaze is glossy. But the Cobalt Blue floral decoration, shading slightly to a lighter Sky Blue on edges, is very high gloss. Heavy. Weighs ~2.5 pounds! Jug measures about 5-1/4" H. 6" diameter including handle May be a really rare piece! Don't miss adding it to your collection!

Antique Stoneware: *NR* Exceptional 19thC. Cobalt-Decorated Batter Jug, EX!!!
An exceptional 19thC. Stoneware Batter Jug with Cobalt Decoration. Northeastern US, ca.1870; 1.5 Gal. capacity. Shiny, salt-glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior- it is perfect. Wonderful bulbous form with a generous spout and lower lug handle to assist the pour. The bale handle appears original with appropriate wear, as shown. These Decorated Batter Jugs are very difficult to find without significant damage, repairs or restoration. There is a small chip on the backside, near the handle; and a ding on the right side(see close-up) otherwise mint. There is a tight separation at the top of the spout, but I would consider this a production flaw. No hairlines, cracks, repairs or restoration work. The tin covers are authentic and completely ... moreoriginal. Displays brilliantly- the perfect addition to your Country or Primitive setting. This is a very high quality piece that will be at home in any Antique Stoneware collection and will not disappoint. Please see photo set for complete details and further description. ANTIQUE 4 GAL STONEWARE JUG/CROCK,KEENE, N.H., COBALT BLUE DECORATION
Here is a large 4-gallon antique stoneware jug crock made in Keene. New Hampshire. I can't quite make out the top line, looks a lot like J. S. Taft, xxxx-xx- N.Y. but not sure. It has an elaborate cobalt blue decoration with vines, flower and leaves, tendrils etc. This jug is about 19" tall and approx. 10-3/4" across the diameter at the base and about 34-35 inches in circumference at the widest part of the jug. The top and side(of the spout) have very old chips. There is an"in-the-making" defect in the front that you can view with the e-bay magnifier. I do not see any hairlines or cracks, just the very old chips on top and side of spout. I have had this for decades. Packing and shipping by UPS, see handling fee for packing. See my items for sale. I really don't deal with jugs a whole lot. But this one really caught my eye. It really has that beehive shape to it. Especially since the bottom narrows down just like the top does. Most times it is just the top. There are two things that I will mention about it and you can decide for yourself with the pictures. Towards the bottom below the handle is a small dime sized piece that is chipped off a little. It does not go through and is just on the surface. But is there just the same and needs to be mentioned. The other one is on the handle where the thumb is placed. It is a different color than the rest. I am not sure if this was made like this to give the thumb a not so smooth surface for gripping possibly. It looks to have been made like this from the factory because the color closest to the spout bleeds over onto the lighter colored part. Regardless. It is a very interesting jug and will compliment any collection. It stands approximately 14 inches high without the wooden stopper. $22.00 will ship it anywhere in the lower 48 states. Please che

Antique Stoneware "Ring Jug" with Cobalt slip decoration
ANTIQUE STONEWARE"RING JUG" 1850-1910. Diameter: 6.25 inches. Length: 8.5 inches. Weight: 14 oz. Ring jugs found with two but sometimes four loop handles along its shoulders. Certain types. Like the marbled“ from Northern Italy and eastern France(circa 15-17th century) Had an attached base. Others, like the English“ circa 15– 17th century) were simply two plates fused together. But most were a thrown hollow ring. The ring could be short and thick, like those of the North Carolina. Or extremely wide and thin. Some were glazed redware. Some salt fired stoneware. Some were highly ornate, others plain. This unusual shape could be found as far away as Russia and Ukraine. Where ice was packed in the middle to dispense chilled vodka or(rye beer) Far away from Europe and long after these times. Some modern Cubans use unglazed pedestaled ... morerings filled with water and put in front of fans as a sort of passive air conditioner. But anything this unusual and somewhat difficult to throw was(and is) as much an excuse to show off one’s potting skills as to provide any particular function. This particular example has the look of stoneware made on the Eastern seaboard. From New England and New York State, Ohio or Pennsylvania, made from the mid 19th century to the early 20th century. Wonderful cobalt slip decoration on front of jug and on loop handles. In excellent antique condition with no repair or cracks. Some surface roughness and anomalies from firing. Could not find a maker's mark. Found in Eastern Connecticut.

NICE ANTIQUE STONEWARE JUG 9 INCHES TALL DECORATED WITH COBALT & WHITE LINES NR
3 DAY AUCTION! This is for a lovely antique stoneware jug with diminuative proportions and a quaint decoration of cobalt and white lines applied to the wall of the jug. The size is attractive. Standing 9 inches tall with a 6 1/2 inch diameter. The jug is in very good condition. It does have a small, flat chip on the bottom rim which is barely visible, and there is some glaze imperfection on the bottom rim which I think is from manufacture. There are a few straw lines, but there are no other chips and no cracks. The unglazed shoulder is soiled, but that's pretty minor. The condition is really very nice, with a better finish than most stoneware pieces. Please email with any questions. Thanks for looking. Never a reserve! I use USPS Media Mail. Standard Mail, or First Class Mail to save you money whenever I can, and I will combine won items, ... moreif possible, to save you money on shipping. On small packages, under two pounds, the new rates indicate that Priority is just as cheap as Standard, so in those cases I will use Priority Mail, which is much faster. This item will be shipped by Standard Mail.

Fort Howard New York" I believe the cobalt design is an abstract flowers. The jug is in good condition. But there are some flaws. First, this was at one time converted to use as a lamp and I removed a rubber and metal contraption that was used to hold the socket. You can see there is still some red on the inside of the spout from the rubber substance. What is left is just color, there is ... moreno dimension to it. It will take more cleaning to get rid of it completely. You can also see in the pictures that there are a few nicks around the spout. There are imperfections in the glaze with spots and little holes, perhaps from using salt in the manufacturing process. There is one green glaze drip to the right of the letters and below that, a spider hairline that could be a manufacturing flaw or the result of a bump. In another picture, I point out a line that looks like a manufacturing flaw to me. Halfway down one side there are two flaws that occurred during production when something touched the jug. In the top area, some clay pulled away. In the bottom spot, a piece of clay from the other piece was left. Finally, there is a chip and a couple of tiny nicks along the bottom rim. more After listing all these flaws(please review and enlarge all the pictures) this jug still displays beautifully! Please note that there is more beige color in the back than the front. There is no size marking on the jug, but I would guess it to be about one and a half gallons.
