At Auction: Vintage Two-Toned Glazed Stoneware Moonshine Whiskey Jug; 1/2 Gallon Wide-Mouth. In Excellent Condition(missing cork) Colored in warm brown and cream. This nicely glazed wide-mouthed Moonshine Whiskey Jug is free of any blemishes and has no identifying markings underneath. The finish is in excellent condition and makes for a nice display piece. Age is unknown. But item has been displayed in in our smoke-free home for more than 30 years. And it was considered antique when we found it. Vintage Or Antique 8" Glazed Stoneware Jug With Round Top-Grayish-Beige-1/2 Gal?
Offered is this vintage or antique glazed stoneware jug with a round top. I describe the color as a sort of grayish-beige. But the color varies a bit on different parts of the jug. It stands about 8" high and is approx. 5 1/2" across on the bottom. It has a cork in so I could not measure the capacity without removing and probably damaging the cork. But I would guess 1/2 gallon or maybe 2 1/2 or 3 quarts? The jug is in very good condition. I see no cracks. But there are a couple of chips at the top on the"neck" see last photo) a thin shallow line across the top that is not a crack but what looks like a mark made when it was manufactured and a small blob of white paint that may be able to be removed with careful attention As you might expect. ANTIQUE 2 GAL. OVOID STONEWARE JUG-COBALT BLUE ACCENTS-MARKED “GOODWIN WEBSTER”
This is a lovely Antique 2 Gallon“Ovoid” Stoneware Jug featuring Cobalt Blue Accents around the Handle and Neck. The jug is clearly marked in front by the maker“GOODWIN WEBSTER” Horace Goodwin and Mack Webster operated the pottery in Hartford. Connecticut from 1831-1840. The ovoid jug is beautifully shaped standing 13” high and measuring 9” across its bulbous center from which it tapers upward to its 1-3/4” diameter neck and downward to 5” across its base. The jug has a period stoneware Gray/Tan color and features a wonderful Saltmarsh Glaze. The short somewhat off kilter neck has 2 decorative incised rings and the handle is similarly decorated its entire length with 3 incised lines, the deepest of which is at the center with a lesser one on either side. There is 1 tight hairline near the bottom and 2 old small chips along the edge of the ... morebase which can’t be seen when placed upright. The handle is noticeably chipped to one side of the incised decoration from long ago adding further to the character of the ovoid. There is no staining or discoloration. The jug has a 1/2” drilled hole near the base and must have been used as a lamp at one time and could again if desired. The front is stamped WINE and underneath that are a series of incised fish an some sort of plant alternating all the way around. Years ago I saw a crock with this incised decoration but it had no markings other than that(and was crazy expensive) This jug has a great somewhat ovoid shape. The WINE stamp stands out even better in person. There is some sort of stone ping to the lower left of the word WINE that did lead to a hairline crack ... moredrifting across the front. It does not get any closer than 1 inch to the cobalt band with the fish and WINE stamp. Everything is pictured. It is truly a fantastic piece of stoneware! 2 gallon whiskey jug either on the fireplace or the kitchen on the old farm in Titus County Tx. The jug has alot of character marks and the original cork that has fallen down inside.Some where in the Smiths family pictures my grandfather has the jug over his shoulder at the Mt.Peasant tx Pottery which is no longer exist. I will be happy to send more photos or answer any questions. I do combine items to save the buyer postage if they would like. I will ship the buyer would like. Nice 1860s WH JONES & CO 153 BLACKSTONE ST BOSTON 2 gal. saltglaze stoneware jug
We are listing this nice 1860s two gallon handled salt glaze stoneware whisky jug made for W.H. Jones& Co. by an unknown potter. It is impressed on the front(and highlighted with cobalt glaze) WH JONES& CO. 153 BLACKSTONE ST, BOSTON. This firm was established in 1851 as an importer of wines and spirits, and it operated at this location into at least the 1870s. Based on the wire cut base and the nicely hand formed handle, this jug dates to the 1860s Civil War period. It is 11 inches tall, a little over 7 inches wide, and has a great patina. It is a very solid and heavy jug, but it does have the following flaws(or character marks if you prefer) there is an old chip off the back of the rim which is a little rough all around, there is an excess clay concretion on the back near the base(and some newer rubs spots in that same area) and ... morethere is an old hairline that runs down one side and across the base. Due to the locations of the flaws they don't greatly affect the visual display of the jug. Please view the closeup pictures and judge for yourself. This is a great looking Civil War period whisky jug. We can currently only accept bids on this from the United States. The United Kingdom, and Canada. We are listing for your consideration a lovely Antique 19th Century Stoneware Salt Glazed Floral Bouquet Decorated N.A. White& Son Utica New York 2 Gallon Jug. This jug is in Excellent Condition with no chips. Cracks, and or repairs. Slight roughness to a small section of the outer pour spout rim with 2 surface nicks. There is slight manufactured roughness and staining with a slight area of loss just above the base rim on the back. We guarantee 100% you will be more than happy with the excellent condition. The jug measures 13" tall x 2 3/8" at the pour spout x 9 1/4" wide x 8 1/2" at the base and weighs approximately 6lb. The jug is marked impressed N.A. White& Son Utica, N.Y. along with a 2 for gallons, Great bright center large floral bouquet decoration.
