Ag, dry goods, metals, timber and people came to and from Stockton by ship and boat via the San Joaquin Delta system from the San Francisco Bay in the 1800's. So it is certainly likely this piece could have made a long journey before arriving in Stockton. There were artisans in Stockton during the 1800's producing earthenware and glass goods. A good example of early pottery from these area may be found by seaching for"Stockton Art Pottery" online. Joseph Pech along with his sons W. J. and Frank established the Buckeye Pottery in Macomb in 1882. Pech. Born in Bohemia on June 15, 1827, apprenticed for 12 years as a potter in Vienna, Austria. Buckeye Pottery was located on Carroll Street. Near the railroad. At the peak of its production. The company employed 20 individuals. The clay came primarily from Macomb County. Wares were marketed to Illinois. Nebraska, Iowa, and other western states. In 1939. Haeger Company purchased Buckeye Pottery and used the pottery to manufacture Haeger floral artware. Offering great antique stoneware jug that has a nice cobalt blue stamp on the front indicating it was made by Buckeye Pottery Company located in Macomb. Illinois. A rubber gasket seal and screws into the top of the jug. It appears to have"+" slots in the top for screwing the lid tight so I'm assuming it held some type of valuable liquid! Antique 3 Gallon Salt Glazed Crock Cobalt Blue Butterfly Bee PA or NY Near Mint Up for auction is an antique 3 Gallon Salt Glazed Crock… dating somewhere around 1860-1880. It has the cobalt blue design with the 3 and what looks like a butterfly. Dragonfly, or bee. We believe this crock is from PA or NY as it came through a family that migrated from north central PA. It measures 9 ½” in diameter at the top and it flares to 10” on the bottom. It stands 10” tall. It is in near mint shape… there is a chipped area on one of the applied handles and there is a very shallow dip along the inner top rim. Uncertain if the rim issue is a chip or a manufacturing issue. EXTRA LARGE 3 GALLON OVOID JUG STONEWARE BLUE DECORATION ANTIQUE AS OFFERED
This large antique ovoid jug was acquired at a New Hampshire estate sale a short while ago. It is a beautiful jug with blue on it and these large specimens of ovoid shape are getting really hard to find. Unfortunately. This jug has received some abuse and there are cracks throughout and two small chips on the bottle mouth. Look carefully at the pictures to make sure these are defects that you can live with-still, this jug is very impressive. The cracks start at the top(two of them)one goes through the blue decoration and splits in two and then travel about. In the blue area, you can clearly see the number 3 stamped. There is also a weak name stamp but the only letters I can make out are" ANNGE. The backside crack runs alongside the handle and down and then crosses over under it. This all being said, the cracks are still quite tight but ... moreI would not be swinging it around by its handle-best to pick this up by its bottom. There is a chip on the bottom and as you can see there are felt circles to protect surfaces. There are several flaws in the glaze and a couple of kiln"bumps" all made in the jug's production. Rare Antique 3 gallon blue salt glaze jug crock pitcher
You are bidding on a very large crock or jug. It does have a handle and I believe it's a 3 gallon because it sits tall on the floor. Almost 2 feet tall. This jug is a base color of a more grey than tan as it looks in the photo and has blue markings on it. The markings look like a bug and a signature but I have been unable to identify it without a doubt so I am not listing it as any particular kind. As far as condition there are a few chips and cracks along it. As well as a bubble in the glaze which shows up as a brown knot. You can see the chip on the photo. Up for sale is a wonderful Huge 3 Gallon Antique Stoneware Jug/ Crock. It measures 16 3/4" tall by 9 1/2" wide across the base and weighs 14lbs. This Jug does have a very thin hairline from the bottom edge to the brown section were it starts to taper up to the spout. It is a thin hairline and still holds fluids nicely. also there is a small chip to the right of the bottom hairline otherwise the condition is great. it has the big finger hole on the top but this jug would be a challenge to throw over your shoulder. Its huge! It would make a great decorating item, it has the number 3 with a flower on each side of the number but no makers name that I can find. Decorated 3 Gallon Jug Stoneware A.J. Buttler New Brunswick NJ Antique 1860's
This auction is for a 3 gallon stoneware jug with salt glaze finish made by hand by the A.J. Buttler Manufacturer in New Brunswick. NJ, circa 1860, before the U.S. Civil War. The maker's mark imprint on the jug has a misspelling; it reads as follows: A.J, BUTTLER, MANUFACTERUR NEW-BRUNSWICK. NJ The maker's mark imprints are deep on the first and second lines but the third line is faded and doesn't appear to have been embossed well at all. This is a 3 gallon jug as evidenced by the large. Cobalt blue#3 won the front. There are also brushed cobalt blue"floral or leaf" designs along each side and below the 3, as well as around the front of the bottle's neck directly above the imprinted words. The jug is in excellent condition. There is a blob of blue glazing on the bottom design and I also noticed a tiny"hole" ... moredoesn't go all the way through) that looks as though it happened in the manufacturing process as there is cobalt blue glaze alongside it. There are also two smallish nicks toward the jug's bottom. Below the far left design. The color of the jug is primarily light brown. With a gradual deepening of the color towards the base. The jug itself weighs nearly 10 lbs and stands about 12" tall; it is 39" in diameter at the widest point and about 36" at the base. I will ship this out to the winning bidder via UPS ground. Rare Antique 1800's 3 Gallon Salt Glazed Stoneware Jug This is a rare opportunity to own a very old 3 Gallon salt glazed stoneware handled jug with a wide mouth in a very dark brown. I'm estimating 1800's. But it may be older-look at the pictures and judge for yourself. It has a primitive"3" near the top. No other marks. The top is slightly darker than the bottom. 14-1/2 inches high and has a 9-1/2" diameter. The mouth is almost 4" across. Condition: Very good given it's age. Handle is intact and solid. No chips around the mouth and only minor chips around the top edge of the body. The top has some lighter color in a very few small spots-may be paint drips or an old attempt to touch it up. Regardless, it only adds to the patina of the jug. The bottom has some damage as can be seen from the last 3 photos, ... morebut it appears to be age related. There is the start of a hairline crack near the bottom, but the jug appears to be solid and should be around for a very long time-see last photo. See high resolution photos for more! This is a great old jug and would make a wonderful addition to anyone's home! Very nice antique. 3 gallon whiskey jug. In very good condition. Some normal wear. Has chip on upper rim. Item is brown, with a cream colored base and a blue number 3 on the front. Bottom is cream colored. Maker is unknown. Circa, 1920. Used in family whiskey still. Very collectible. Priced to sell. Please contact seller with any questions that you may have. You are Viewing an Antique Stoneware 2 Gallon#3 Beehive Jug/Crock Measuring Approximately 15 1/2" Tall and has a Diameter of 8 1/2" Color is a variegated Khaki tan/ brown and the jug has a nice salt glaze. Condition: Overall good with a horizontal crack that encircles all but 3" of crock~but it has not broken thru. Also. There are 2 vertical hairline cracks meeting or crossing thru the horizontal crack, small crack near bottom, and some manufacturing misses. Please review all photos carefully. Even in this condition. This jug is a great find makes a great decor item! Also. Makes an awesome garden piece when half buried on it's side!
