Vintage Western Stoneware Co 1 Gallon Shoulder Whiskey Jug Monmouth Illinois This is a vintage piece of pottery from the Western Stoneware Co in Monmouth. Illinois. It is a 1 gallon shoulder/whiskey jug. It has the maple leaf logo on the front. The jug is about 10.5 inches tall and just under 7 inches in diameter. It was preowned but was very well taken care of. I see a few shallow chips on the front rim(where the white portion begins) There is a 3 inch rough section along the rim on the back, as well as a small hairline crack. There is a small spot on the mouth of the jar where it wasn't completely covered with the brown glaze. I believe any other imperfections I see are only production flaws. Nice old one gallon whiskey shoulder jug from Western Stoneware Co. in Monmouth. IL. It has been used and shows some wear mainly around the bottom. There is a surface crack around the bottom(pic. 4) but the jug doesn't leak. The bottom edge has a couple of chips, see pics. 5-6. There are a couple of spots where the brown shiny glaze wasn't applied uniformly at the factory. I do not have a cork for this jug. Shipping allows for double boxing. This item is described as accurately as possible. If you receive the item and feel that the description is inaccurate in any way. Please contact me before leaving feedback. sr 1262013 I am not an antique dealer. This is being sold for a friend who has had this forever and has had to part with his collections due to hard times. So please feel free to ask any questions prior to purchase! This jug has lots of flaws or some say character. I cannot not find definitive markings. However, there are markings underneath the pour spout that we can not decipher. There also appear to be markings on the bottom that look like initials, but age has deteriorated it. The brown part of the jug is full of flea bites, comes with the cork. The base of the handle is not perfect but it looks like it was manufactured that way. The crock has a dent in it on the right hand side of the spout, as well as a square chip from the base of the bottom. There are also flea bites and flaws from manufacturer. This jug is"dug" in"dug" condition with some minor nicks, chipping on the mouth, glaze ware. This is a hand made jug with an applied handle, it appears that the handle was broke off at some point in time& re-connected. There are no cracks or any other damage. The jug shows normal ware from age, use, being buried for no telling how long. It is seldom that one digs up pottery, stoneware, or crockery in one piece, it is usually broken due to moisture in the ground& pressure from being buried. This jug still retains it's fine brown slip glaze. Antique Whiskey Moonshine Stoneware Shoulder Shelf Jug Crock White
Antique Stoneware Jug. The base measures about 6.75" in diameter and the jug stands about 11.75" tall. There are a few chips on the shoulder as shown in photos 7 and 8. One is about 0.5" long and the other is about 1" long. There is also a drip of blue paint that goes about 1.5" below the shoulder in one spot. This vintage tan shoulder whiskey or moonshine jug is a primitive looking piece. Has a cork in the opening. 10" tall with cork, about 8 1/8" diameter on the bottom. Has some chips and marks, gives it the prim look we like. Attached handle. Has a pc. of masking tape on the bottom, Montgomery auction 1968, 50 cents" written on it. MARKED Peoria Pottery Antique BEEHIVE 2 Gal Brown Stoneware SHOULDER Jug WHISKEY
This is one of many vintage collectible items. Including another Peoria Pottery piece(an elusive pitcher) That I am listing this week. All are in great condition and at great start prices. Here's a slick older beehive shoulder jug in the dark brown Albany slip glaze. Both the bottom and the side base are marked Peoria Pottery. Also included is a cork but I don't think that it is original. This beauty stands roughly 11" tall by 8" wide and I believe is a 2 gallon. Here's a vintage WESTERN STONEWARE ONE gallon jug. Someone long ago painted XXX on the side. Done very nicely and will save you the time if you plan on using it as a showpiece. One small chip under the bottom edge under the last X on bottom edge. Not deep at all just thought I'd mention it. Has original cork but a piece cracked off in the mouth of the jug. I tried to remove the piece but it fell inside the jug. The cork still looks good when placed on top.
