Joseph Pech along with his sons W. J. and Frank established the Buckeye Pottery in Macomb in 1882. Pech. Born in Bohemia on June 15, 1827, apprenticed for 12 years as a potter in Vienna, Austria. Buckeye Pottery was located on Carroll Street. Near the railroad. At the peak of its production. The company employed 20 individuals. The clay came primarily from Macomb County. Bottom Marked Stoneware Cone Top One Gallon Jug by Buckeye Pottery
For your consideration is a vintage stoneware jug made by the BUCKEYE POTTERY of MACOMB ILLINOIS. This jug is a one gallon size and is the cone top style. I do not know much about this company. What I do know is this company was formed in 1882 and was sold in 1941; I beleive this jug to have been manufactured during the first decade of the twentieth century. In 1882, the technology to use this type of glaze had not been invented. The companies that I have studied got the technology to use this type of glaze between 1894 and 1901. From the table to the shoulder is approximately 7" This jug has a total height of approximately 10 3/4" The bottom is slightly over 7" in diameter. This jug has a crack on the cone, not far from the handle. It has a chip on the shoulder and another chip on the lip. There are three minor to insignificant ... morechips where the sides meet the bottom. This jug displays wonderfully, but is not perfect; before purchasing, please carefully look at the photos. Peoria Pottery Jug Stoneware "Rock Island, ILL" Advertising One Gallon - Mint !!
Mint. Peoria Pottery advertising jug. It says" BEARDSLEY& BURGH. ROCK ISLAND, ILL" on its' front. I have two good pics of the advertising here. The bottom is marked"PEORIA POTTERY. I got a couple of fairly good photos of the bottom. The Peoria Pottery mark is a bit light. The jug is mint. The only thing is a area on the right side that shows that it had something touch its' side before being glazed during manufacturing. I only report this to be completely accurate. The glaze is a very heavy. Dark brown glaze with some reddish brown showing through in places like the lip and the advertising. It is a bit more than 10" in height and is about 7 1/4" in diameter. Large Antique 2 Gallon Pottery (?) Jug Lamp - Québec Stoneware (?)
For your consideration is an antique( pottery( stoneware jug. That at some point was convert to a lamp and painted red. Age and maker is unknown. Could this be Quebec Stoneware( Jug features a navy blue floral motif with a 2 on the front. Back of jug does have a handle with an inverted dent. This is a large. Heavy jug. Height, from top to bottom of jug, is about 13 1/2” high. Overall diameter is 8 3/4” Bottom diameter is 7 3/8” Condition is fair. Several chips around the outer diameter, some existing red paint, and would need to be rewire, if using for a lamp. Possibly, at one time, jug was salt glazed( but glaze was stripped when paint was removed. Please feel free to ask questions or request additional photographs. A really neat piece of history. The jug measures 13 1/2" tall by 9" in diameter at the base. It is in Fine condition with no chips. Repairs or Flaws. The jug is marked with a blue star in a circle which is the Star Company logo. The number 2 indicates the capacity of the jug is 2 gallons. The dome shape top is a dark brown and the body is an ivory cream. The base has indications that it was Hand Spun on a Potters wheel. Antique 5 Gallon Brown Glazed Top Tennessee Stoneware Pottery Whisky Beehive Jug
This is a fantastic antique two-toned brown and natural glazed stoneware whisky jug from Tennessee that is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. It is beautiful all over with the rich. Even, shiny, brown glaze on the top and the even natural toned glaze on the bottom that is covered with natural crazing from age(shown in the last photo) giving it a charming vintage look. There is some light scuffing and scratching on the surface, but no other obvious damage. I haven't tried to fill it, but it is the same size as other 5 gallon jugs I have and it is definitely larger than a 3 gallon, so I believe it holds 5 gallons. It measures 11" W x 18" H and will be packed very well, double boxed, and insured during shipping.

It measures 11 1/2" tall and 7" wide. It is a solid tan/ stone color. There is a letter'A' on the bottom edge of the jug. It is in very good condition for it's age with 1 small 3/8" chip at bottom edge noted with no other chips, cracks, fractures, or signs of repair noted.
