It has an elaborate cobalt blue decoration with vines, flower and leaves, tendrils etc. This jug is about 19" tall and approx. 10-3/4" across the diameter at the base and about 34-35 inches in circumference at the widest part of the jug. The top and side(of the spout) have very old chips. There is an"in-the-making" defect in the front that you can view with the e-bay magnifier. This is an antique 2-gallon Bangor Stone Ware Co. salt-glazed stoneware jug. C. 1880-1917. It is stamped in cobalt blue with the number 2 above"Bangor Stone Ware Co, Bangor Maine" Two drops of glaze from the manufacturing process. As well as several light brown drops from the manufacturing process, can be seen in photographs#1 and#2. A small, shallow surface flake on the outside of the lip near the handle can be seen in photograph#4, along with a few insignificant surface hairlines. An additional surface hairline on the outside of the lip can be seen in photograph#5. A 3-1/4" long surface hairline can be seen in photograph#6. A very small chip on the base can be seen in photograph#8. The photographs show that the jug is in good overall condition. This piece is almost 11" tall X 7-1/2" across(24" around) The piece features a molded handle(slightly skewed as befits a handmade piece) and a squared off top. The color is buff with some discolorations from the original firing(see photos) The jug is in excellent condition commensurate with its age. There are no cracks, chips or damage visible. But there are no markings minus what looks like a letter G stamped in the back. The jug measures about 11" tall and it has a very unusual pinched handle design that I’ve never seen. Really nice piece and in excellent condition with no damage. There is a very shallow chip at the mouth but it might just have been manufactured as such– it looks like it’s always been there. Up for bid is an Antique. Whiskey stoneware/crock Jug. This jug has a very unusual but beautiful brown speckled patina in the part that usually would be cream color. The jug is 11" tall and the base is 7" in diameter. The jug is marked with the potters initial"E" Due to age and use there are some imperfections. There are some snail tracks in the glaze located near the handle and around the handle(pictures 6-8) Couple of small chips on the handle(picture 9& 10) and an area in the body of the jug that looks like a flaw in the clay or a hairline crack. Up for you consideration today I have a large 5 gallon Salt Glazed Crock THIS JUG IS WATERTIGHT NO cracks or breaks two chips one large at the bottom about the size of a nickel or a bit larger one small that was done before firing and it glazed over these can be seen in the last two pictures It was painted with about 30 layers of paint and I used a natural orange stripper to remove the paint you can see remnants of paint chips in some of the pictures they will not be present when it arrives I took the pictures directly after the stripping was finished to show a friend and had not cleaned it completely It took me 2 months to remove all of the paint with the natural stripper and lots of elbow grease it was a labor of love! Stoneware Salt Glazed White Whiskey Jug Crock
Up for bid is an Antique. Stoneware/crock Jug. The jug measures approximately 10-1/2" tall and the base is 7-1/8" in diameter and is a combo of a very light gray with some very light tan and White. I guess you could call it a dirty, cream color. Due to age and use there are some imperfections. There are several chips. few around the top opening(picture 3) several around the edge of the body(pictures 4& 5) several around the bottom edge(pictures 6-9) and one in the body(picture 10) There are also some imperfections from when the jug was made such as clumps, and little holes in the clay(picture 10 shows the little holes) No crazing and no cracks. Up for bid is an Antique. Cider Vinegar stoneware/crock Jug. The jug still has some of the original, paper Cider label attached. The jug measures approximately 10-3/4" tall(not including the cork) and the base is 7-1/4" in diameter. Due to age and use there are some imperfections. The handle has been repaired(plaster added and painted) but is not all that noticeable(pictures 10& 11) several chips(pictures 5- 8) and some other minor nicks in the stoneware. The crock glaze is uneven and spotty which adds great character to this jug. I do not know if the cork is original and it does show quite a bit of wear(missing pieces) You can also hear part of the cork inside the jug. No crazing or cracks. Wonderful old jug!
