Nice luster, looks different in every kind of light. Glaze is nicely variegated- study photos to get the feel and look of this relatively heavy piece(for its size) Does not appear to be missing a lid- the way the opening was made, I do not believe this ever had a lid, at least not a ceramic one that would have been incorporated into the clay design when the piece was hand thrown. Looks like this crock could originate from the Catawba Valley Pottery, but just my opinion. Glaze& form reminds me a little bit of Pewabic Pottery pieces, but not iridescent. Not much wear given its age- glaze has rubbed off in a few small spots around the rim(see photo) but no serious chips or cracks. Bottom is unmarked. All sales are final- no returns. Vintage (2) 5 Gallon gallon Stoneware Crock Brown Whiskey Jugs Lot
I have two vintage whiskey jugs. Brown on top and beige on bottom. I cannot find any kind of markings on them. I think they may be 5 gallon judging by the measurements of others that look similar on eBay. They measure approximately 15 inches tall by a 10 inch diameter. Large and heavy. I have a 10 lb. scale and each is over on that so I am unsure as to the exact weight. Will update when possible. I cannot find any cracks, there is one chip on the botton of one jug as pictured.

WHAT A CROCK OF. EXCELLENCY! HERE'S a fine authentic genuine 19th c salt glazed Stoneware Crock to CHEER about. Near as fine collector condition as one likes to find them straight last week fresh plucked out of a one-man thirty year private collection culled locally in his lifetime, for you to reharvest and give new life to once again this brand new Spring 2013 debut listing from Colony Farm Antiques, the hard goods division of Lady Ellens' Fine Ware here on EBay, where we serve reenactors and select collector interests with supreme offerings. The open salt glazed Stoneware Crock is stamped with OTTMAN BRO'S over FORT EDWARD. NY over a compact tight cluster hand slipped blue scroll coil spray dotted leafy floral cluster typical of slip cup decoration(slip is liquid clay) that looks like two google eyes. The decorations sits well ... moremid front to the piece and shows nicely in overall balanced scheme to the viewer, this one had some thought exercised during manufacture as so many other finds are simply routine, unimaginative, and in some cases, downright hurried and sloppy! The molded rim ring is thick, well formed and strong, and left and right ear lug handles are sound, tight, easy grip, deeply formed, and attached firmly no issues. This is a clean nice stoneware example for anyone's proud display collection. Unmarked to capacity, I would say it is best equivalent to just about 1 1/2 gallon size. Condition Report: Very sound. Super clean Stoneware desireable small counter top sized Crock has few if any flaws to note except getting super picky.Two fingernail dents before firing in coil spray area. Two inch cloud shaped darker grey discolor area floating on back. Two half inch similar marks floating left side front. No kiss marks or stone pings. Clean sound bottom with some dirt/blackened surface color. No fry to cobalt, No hairlines. No repairs. ANTIQUE LARGE 5 GALLON STONEWARE "BEEHIVE" JUG (0671)
This is a 19 th to very early 20 th CENTURY OVOID SALT GLAZE STONEWARE JUG with COBALT MOTIF. VERY LARGE VINTAGE STONEWARE JUG with the letter“H“ mark. The JUG is called a“BEEHIVE” style and the motif on the front of the jug is supposed to be a bee. It is Pennsylvania-New York Stoneware. 1850-1880, but it could be from several makers. It is likely a batch firing sequence used by the potter, they generally used a letter instead of numbers on limited runs, meaning the piece is hand painted. Stoneware like that is fired to a VERY high temperature(about 2300 degrees F) and about 1720, American potters began producing a form of stoneware developed in many Europe centuries earlier-stoneware glazed with salt and decorated with cobalt blue that is signed“H“ with a Beautiful Symbol painted in Blue. Salt glazed stoneware like this was very common in ... morethe 19 th-Century America and potters produced it all over the country. Sometimes stamping it with their maker’s marks- but most of the time, they did not put on an actual name-like this one. The circumference is a whopping 38" It measures 11 inches across the bottom. I put this next to my other brown bee hive jugs to give you an idea of just how big this jug really is. The next size down in the pics is 13" inches tall. When people list jugs that are 13" tall they call them LARGE. There is a small chip on the lip and there is a hairline crack down the side. Eastman Kodak film emulsion chemical stoneware jug with glazed brown top and handle. Cobalt blue decoration on front depicts early Eastman Kodak. Rochester, NY company logo. It's purpose was to store chemicals(mainly methanol and acetone) used in the early photographic film industry. Jug originated from company and the chemicals were then sold to individual professional photographers. P.H. Smith 5-Gallon Jug I received this when my aunt passed away. I'm no expert. So I took many photos and will describe to the best of my ability. Please see the photos! P.H. Smith stamped on front. Along with the number 5. Approx 17" high, 11" across. I see several small chips on the body of the jug. There is a white mark that I thought was a chip but when I run my fingernail over it. It is very slightly raised. You can see it on the photo showing the back of the jug, on the left side of the back. Overall. It looks very nice. It has sat in my living room for many years. Antique 5 Gallon Brown Glazed Top Tennessee Stoneware Pottery Whisky Beehive Jug
This is a fantastic antique two-toned brown and natural glazed stoneware whisky jug from Tennessee that is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. It is beautiful all over with the rich. Even, shiny, brown glaze on the top and the even natural toned glaze on the bottom that is covered with natural crazing from age(shown in the last photo) giving it a charming vintage look. There is some light scuffing and scratching on the surface, but no other obvious damage. I haven't tried to fill it, but it is the same size as other 5 gallon jugs I have and it is definitely larger than a 3 gallon, so I believe it holds 5 gallons. It measures 11" W x 18" H and will be packed very well, double boxed, and insured during shipping.

Sturdy. Utilitarian earthenware jug is cream color with a brown top. It has a stenciled"5" on it, so it's a five gallon ceramic jug, but there's no other visible mark on this puppy. It is 18 1/2 inches tall and is on an 11-inch base. There are some chips(see photo) on the body. And on the base. This is a nice stoneware crock that was evidently used for canning. It is 15 inches tall. And 12 inches in diameter. It holds 5 gallons. It does show a crack on the bottom, but it doesn't leak. The top opening is almost 3-1/2 inches across. This type is very rare and hard to find. Other 5 gallon jugs have small top openings like a whiskey bottle or are completely open and shaped like a can. Here is a nice old 5 gallon whiskey jug from a North Carolina estate. It is from the turn of the century from what I can find online about the company. The owner seemed to be sued a lot for not fulfilling orders and promises. I've been able to connect him to the beginning of Canadian Club and a few other huge whisky names. The crock is in decent shape for being over a hundred years old. It has a few notable chips and it has crazing throughout. There is a mark on the back that I can't tell if it's a scratch or crack. This is a 2 Tone Color color jug with the top being a dark brown and the bottom section having a cream color. This is a large jug that weighs 26 pounds and measures 18 and 1/2" tall by 11" across at the base with a 2 and 1/4" across mouth. There is some minor wear present as well as a small chip on the inner section of the mouth as well as some fine hairline cracks towards the bottom in a small area section.
