Half Gallon Ovoid jug. Inscribed Flowering Plant in Pot 9” tall and 3 ½” at base. Everything about this ovoid jug is great. The inscribed plant is remarkably well done. It is actually coming out of a pot at the bottom of the tree. The jug displays three concentric rings around the neck by the handle. To be honest. There is minor glaze loss around back near handle and a scratch in the body on side done in manufacture. There is one small stone bruise also on the side near the neck. That said. This is a special jug. It appears to me that it is States Pottery in Stonington. CT in origin. You’ll never see another inscribed potted plant on an early 1800s jug. This little jug stands about 4 inches tall and is about 3 1/8 inches across at the center. The last picture is an attempt to show its size next to a Pepsi can. The pictures do enlarge. So hopefully you can judge its condition. There are a couple of small maker type marks on the jug(the white spots are reflections) and the bottom has a chip on the edge. The top of the jug is great. Miniature Scratch Jug with AL SMITH
It is 3 1/2" tall and the base is 2 1/4" in diameter. Great, rich color. The only detractor is an inside the mouth chip, not seen when displayed on the Smith side. It came from Savannah. GA and I don't know much more than that. There was a NY govenor in the early 20's named Al Smith, but this jug could be earlier than that. Not sure if there was a potter by that name in the South, could be.
