A rubber gasket seal and screws into the top of the jug. It appears to have"+" slots in the top for screwing the lid tight so I'm assuming it held some type of valuable liquid! Antique Ruckels 2 Gallon Crock Jug made in White Hall, Illinois, pottery,ceramic
Ruckels Ceramic 2 Gallon Jug A.D. Ruckels started producing high quality pottery in White Hall. Illinois in the last half of the 1800's, White Hall was known for its outstanding clay and Ruckels for some of the era's finest quality. Today. The jugs are especially collectible. This jug is truly an antique being over a hundred years old and is in very good condition given its age. It does have a crack about half way around the base and a hole less than the size of a pencil eraser on its side. I have detailed these age signs in the photos so look closely. This is an antique water jug/ botijo/ gargoulette. A traditional water container that can be found all over Spain and in parts of southern France. It is designed to maintain a cool water temperature, even when placed in the sun. This item is depicts a country house on one side and a dog on the other, with trees in between. The colors are browns, yellow, greens and white with black for lines and a touch of blue. This item shows signs of being an antique, and I estimate it is from the first half of the 20th century. The bottom is stamped handmade in Spain, so we know it is likely post 1891. Approx 9.5" tall and 8.25" at the widest.

T here's a band of no glazing around the top of the jug. Also. The glazing doesn't cover the jug completely. These unglazed areas might be mistaken for damaged areas, such as the mouth of the jug. It looks as though it's chipped, but there's just no glaze on it. You see that"style" all over the jug surface. There are a few minor chips on the jug. One is in the band where there is no glazing, it's about 1/4" wide. The other few chips are tiny. Antique Rye Moonshine Jug Ceramic Pottery Buchan Scotland
Vintage rye ceramic pottery jug made by Buchan. Portobello, Scotland. Stamped on bottom and numbered 6/26 A. I am not really familiar with the brand. I just know it has been in my family for(guessing) at least 75 years. I can't find.another one like it, so I don't know what else to say about it. The bottom is ivory and the top is pink. Unfortunately, when I went to lift it by the handle, it broke off. As you can see, if you glue it back on, it looks fine. Otherwise this very old jug is in fine vintage condition. If you look closely, you can see the rings from the potters wheel. Very heavy. 8" high x 4 1/2" wide where the handle is.

Great looking jug! Measures 10 1/2" high and 7 1/2" dia. There are a few flaws. Please study the photos. The most obvious is the 5/16th" flake on the bottom front and the chip at the bottom of the handle. Otherwise it is a great crock. The building that Hughes was in is still Glenwood across from the movie theater. There are no cracks or hairlines. It weighs 9 lbs so shipping is a little high.

Hello. Up for auction is this recent beautiful East Coast yard sale find. This jug is from Blanchard& Farrar Co. out of Boston, MA. Blanchard& Farrar Co. were importers and wine merchants at 31 Faneuil Hall Square. Boston, MA. in the late 1800's and early 1900's. There are not many left out there from this particular time period and company in this condition. The jug has no cracks. And is really in wonderful condition. It was well made, and sits nice and flat. It does have a small chip on the top rim, I took a close up of it in the photos. Always refer to pics carefully. Beautiful Blue& White Stoneware Jug This is a very attractive blue and white stoneware jug that resembles"The Fox Hunt" scenes. The handle of the jug is in the shape of a fox. One the front side is a man wearing a top hat and holding what looks like a whip in the darker blue on this side you can see dogs that appear to be running at the bottom. The back side appears to have men on horses as well as walking, the blue part at the bottom on this side appears to have a horn like piece as well as the head of fox. It also appears to be somewhat dated 1774-1934 however these numbers are a little hard to make out so they be different. The bottom of the piece is marked"Rockingham" this jug is very neat and different and in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, nicks or dings. I can not tell you the age of this jug.
