Has a very thin hair line crack on the spout(picture 7) but not bad. There is a mold defect when it was fired, and appears to have caused a glaze bubble which made the hole on top of maple leaf. Vintage Western Stoneware Co 1 Gallon Shoulder Whiskey Jug Monmouth Illinois This is a vintage piece of pottery from the Western Stoneware Co in Monmouth. Illinois. It is a 1 gallon shoulder/whiskey jug. It has the maple leaf logo on the front. The jug is about 10.5 inches tall and just under 7 inches in diameter. It was preowned but was very well taken care of. I see a few shallow chips on the front rim(where the white portion begins) There is a 3 inch rough section along the rim on the back, as well as a small hairline crack. There is a small spot on the mouth of the jar where it wasn't completely covered with the brown glaze. I believe any other imperfections I see are only production flaws. This jug is easily 80 to 100 years old, given the family's Kentucky history. It weighs 5.8 pounds. Nice old one gallon whiskey shoulder jug from Western Stoneware Co. in Monmouth. IL. It has been used and shows some wear mainly around the bottom. There is a surface crack around the bottom(pic. 4) but the jug doesn't leak. The bottom edge has a couple of chips, see pics. 5-6. There are a couple of spots where the brown shiny glaze wasn't applied uniformly at the factory. I do not have a cork for this jug. Shipping allows for double boxing. This item is described as accurately as possible. If you receive the item and feel that the description is inaccurate in any way. Please contact me before leaving feedback. Up for auction is an Antique 4 gallon Primitive Stoneware Moonshine Shoulder Jug with a Southwest Scene hand painted on it. The hand painting is old but I think it postdates the manufacture of the piece. The hand painting will probably easily rub off with a little mineral spirits if you don't like it. It is in decent shape for its age. A few small surface chips which I have shown in the pictures. No cracks. The typical wear to the surface found on these old jugs. As well as the imperfections caused by the manufacturing process. i 17 inches tall. 10 inches in diameter at the base. Weighs a little over 13 pounds. Several more pictures directly below. sr 1262013 I am not an antique dealer. This is being sold for a friend who has had this forever and has had to part with his collections due to hard times. So please feel free to ask any questions prior to purchase! This jug has lots of flaws or some say character. I cannot not find definitive markings. However, there are markings underneath the pour spout that we can not decipher. There also appear to be markings on the bottom that look like initials, but age has deteriorated it. The brown part of the jug is full of flea bites, comes with the cork. The base of the handle is not perfect but it looks like it was manufactured that way. The crock has a dent in it on the right hand side of the spout, as well as a square chip from the base of the bottom. There are also flea bites and flaws from manufacturer. Stoneware Three Gallon Transitional Shoulder Jug. Hand Decorated w/ White Glaze
For your consideration is a three gallon jug that was made after the manufactured converted the kiln(s) to fire stoneware items with white glaze. But still decorated the items by hand. Most manufacturers started using the white glaze and rubber stamps to apply writing, decorations and size during the middle and late 1890s, but some started using that technology as late as 1902. Yes, that is a 3, I know this by sitting this jug next to crocks and jugs that the gallonage is very legible. The writing is blue. The total height is 15 1/4" and from the table to the shoulder is 10 5/8" The bottom is 9 1/4" in diameter. There are 0 cracks, however on the shoulder are minor to insignificant chips on the shoulder. On the bottom edge, is one larger chip, also there are minor to insignificant chips. For your consideration is a two gallon jug made of stoneware. I do not know the identity of the manufacturer. The top of the handmade and hand attached handle is slightly above the opening. Also the places where the top and bottom of the handle are attached are not straight with each other. The total height is approximately 13" From the surface it is sitting on to the shoulder is 8 3/8" and the bottom is 9" in diameter. There is a large and shallow chip on the spout. There are numerous manufacturing defects(the way the 2 was stamped, the attachment of the handle, the runny glaze with glaze skips, etc. This jug needs proper cleaning.

For your consideration is a 1/2 gallon shoulder jug. Made the Western Stoneware Company. This company was formed in 1906 as a result of A.D. Philpot buying out seven regional manufacturers of stoneware products; then merging them together. These seven companies were located in three different states(Illinois, Missouri and Iowa) The headquarters of Western Stoneware were located in Monmouth, Illinois. The maple leaf and writing are in blue and cannot be scrubbed or scraped off. Below the shoulder, this jug has an off white glaze and above the shoulder, is brown glaze. The style of the maple leaf leads me to believe this jug was manufactured before 1940. This jug has a total height of slightly more than 9" From the surface it is sitting on to the shoulder is slightly more than 6" and the bottom is almost 5 1/2" in diameter. This is a really nice 1 gallon shoulder/ whiskey/ cider jug with cork. Marked on the bottom Red Wing Stoneware Co. This company was from Red Wing, Minnesota. The condition is very good– no cracks, no later years chips, on the shoulder edge there is a flaw that is glazed over, probably from manufacturing. There are 2 glaze pops and a couple rough spots. Having lived in Northern Michigan, I've seen quite a few Red Wing jugs& crocks– the condition of this one is a lot better than many I have seen. For your consideration is a shoulder jug with a capacity of one quart. The top of the curve of the handle is slightly above the opening. At the factory. The shoulder as glazed. I do not know what the silver colored sustance as it feels like the stoneware around it and it is not paint. The total height is 6 1/2" From the bottom to the shoulder is 4 3/8" and the bottom is slightly more than 4 12" in diameter. On the shoulder, is what appears to be a larger chip that has been glued back. Also, around the shoulder are smaller chips. Also, there are smaller chips around the bottom edge. They are not deep. It is 12" in height. 3-3/8 diameter at base. There is a piece of cork stuck in the flask/jug. It is stamped or etched 1/KAN in a circle. KAN means pottery in Japanese. The salt glazing is nice on this(salt makes a glaze-like finish as it melts onto the pottery) I think its markings are very attractive. It's very thick. Scarce old black jug made by using black iron oxide. The photos. Taken outdoors, don't really show that this is a true black. This stands just under 9" tall and is approx. 6" across at it's widest point. This has a great sparkle from the salt glaze. It just wouldn't photograph. No chips or cracks. The spots in the photos are firing flaws. There is two scrapes. About 1" and 2" long on one side, that occurred before firing. There are glaze drips towards the bottom. For your consideration is brown top shouder jug. It is made of stoneware and has a one quart capacity. I do not know who manufactured this jug. I have read extensively about stoneware; I have yet to read of any company having the capability to mass produce stoneware items with this glaze before 1895. I have yet to read of any company mass producing utilitarian stoneware items after 1947. The maximum height(not counting the cork) is 7 1/4" From the bottom to the unglazed shoulder is 4 7/8" The diameter is 4 1/2" This jug has 0 cracks. However next to the opening is a minor chip. There are glaze skips and a place on the shoulder that touched another item during firing.

Antique Whiskey Moonshine Stoneware Shoulder Shelf Jug Crock White
Antique Stoneware Jug. The base measures about 6.75" in diameter and the jug stands about 11.75" tall. There are a few chips on the shoulder as shown in photos 7 and 8. One is about 0.5" long and the other is about 1" long. There is also a drip of blue paint that goes about 1.5" below the shoulder in one spot. Up for auction is a really neat vintage one-half gallon shoulder jug with a seldom seen color combination. This jug has a medium brown color on the top portion of the jug and dark brown on the bottom section. I can't recall ever seeing this color combination. The jug stands approximately 8 1/2" tall and has a base diameter of just under 6" This is a super cool smaller vintage should jug that is in excellent condition and has no chips. Vintage 6.75" Stoneware Shoulder Jug with Finger Handle, Tan & Brown, USA Mark
Little Brown Jug Stoneware Shoulder Jug with Finger-Handle Two-Tone Brown(Tan and Dark Brown) Marked USA T his listing is for a very folks stoneware jug marked with an incised USA mark. In a two-tone brown glaze. There is an applied neck and handle with room for one finger. The jug measures 6.75 inches high at the top of the handle, 1-1/8 inches wide across the neck, and 4.25 inches wide across the footring. The jug is in very good condition. There is a small indented spot on the front of the rim lip. But it is under the glaze and original to manufacture. There are also a couple of pinpoint-size glaze pops, also original to firing. There are no chips, cracks, or crazing. The only mark I can find is an incised. Underglaze mark for"USA. The"S" is a bit larger than the U and A, which sometimes indicates a piece made by Brush Pottery.

This company was founded in Red Wing, Minn. in 1883 and existed until 1906. In 1906, it merged with Red Wing Stoneware Co. and the new company became known as Red Wing Union Stoneware Co. The glaze indicates this jug was manufactured 1895-1906. This jug has a total height of 11" From the table to the shoulder is 7 1/4" and the bottom is 6 7/8" in diameter. One minor flake out of the glaze on the edge of the bottom rim. Not noticeable until the jug is turned upside down and a person was to really be looking for imperfections. Very light crazing to the glaze. 7" tall 7" diameter

Good-looking, but leaky, vintage 1-gal moonshine shoulder jug - crock stoneware
Here's a fine old moonshine jug that. Sadly, has a crack and a slow leak. So you won't be toting moonshine in it, but it'll look really good in your cabin. antique cobalt 3 salt glaze 2 tone brown cream stoneware shoulder jug w handle
This jug stands about 14.5" tall and is 11" in diameter. Brown glaze at the top including the handle and cream stoneware at the bottom. The number 3 is in cobalt blue. It is in good vintage condition with no cracks. It is being sold as-is meaning that it will need to be washed. It weights over 14 pounds.
