This canteen shaped stoneware 1/2 gallon jug is a very rare piece with 10 or less known to exist. Made by the Whites Pottery. Utica, New York factory for the Utah Liquor Company. Whites Pottery, Utica, NY is famous for their cobalt paddletail and running bird stoneware designs that sell for thousands of dollars. It is salt glazed with cobalt blue. The front has the words"Utah Liquor Company and 167 South Main St" The backside features a scene of three men drinking. Below is more about the canteen and the Utah Liquor Company. One of the most prolific of the Utah liquors firms was the Utah Liquor Company. This firm is first noted in the 1894 in the Salt Lake City Directory. Pretty sure with the photos you have listed that this jug is a quarter gallon rather that a half gallon. I am not aware of anyone who has actually measured the capacity of the canteens but for over 40 years this size is considered the quart. I already have a set but my two half gallons could be upgraded. Your jug is an exceptional example of this rare piece. The rarity of the quart has held but several other half gallon examples have surfaced. The quart usually brings a higher price than the half. The gallon is still the toughest to get. In his book from 1890"Microbes and the Microbe Killer" Radam stated"I swallowed the contents of bottle after bottle until their number became too great to calculation. I took quinine until it failed to have any effect" This is when he began his own journey to cure himself. On September 28 1886 Radam would patent his Microbe Killer. He reportedly began selling his Microbe Killer Elixir at the Dallas State Fair by the jug. In December 13 1887 he secured his trade mark for Microbe Killer. It was a young well clothed business man swinging a club at a skeleton. Radam claimed that the Microbe Killer could cure disease and conquer death. Business was so good by 1888 he had the Koppel Building built on the site where his nursery once was. By 1890 Radam would leave Austin. Up for auction is a very Old American Clay Pottery Jug. I know nothing about Old American Jugs. I think it looks like a Boot Leg bottle. A friend looked at them and I will tell you what he told me. He said that it has an applied handle-you can see the thumb print where it attached to the jug. It is pre 1900 and it is very crude. You can see all of the imperfections under the glaze. Globs of clay, and gouges out of the clay, star hairlines, all under the glaze. You can tell that this is hand thrown. It is so crudely finished. The base is not glazed, it has a nipple in the center with some chips on the edge of the base. Please look at the pictures, they are a very important part of the description. This jug is just under 10 inches tall, 5 1/2 inches across at the base, 1 1/2 inches across at the mouth and 18 3/4 around. Antique jug that was converted to a lamp. The jug is a Thaddeus Davids and Company Manufacturing Stationers out of New York City. This was not a whiskey or beer producer but rather made ink. This jug would be used as a refill for ink wells. It has an interesting spout for pouring. The jug is glossy and in great condition. This was converted to a lamp I believe some time recently. The wire was run through the jug via a hole drilled in the side. It has a very large shade that has a different flower on each side. The side is quite nice. The flowers seem to be pasted on. I can ship without the shade to save on shipping cost if you have no need for it. Bottom to top of shade it is 26 1/2" tall. The shade is 14" wide. The jug is 11 1/2" x 6" It weighs about 8 lbs. It features brown lettering on Cream Color and there is crazing throughout. It touts the fact that the whiskey was awarded by the World's Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exp/1884-1885/New Orleans. I have read that the"I W" initials were borrowed from Isaac's own name. Antique STONEWARE JUG BOTTLE broken brown glaze Ink Bottle Primitive 1800 NJ
This is an antique stoneware bottle jug. Maybe an ink bottle it has light yellow/ white stoneware and a brown glaze as you can see it is broken at top This was found in a dig. Probably south NJ was in my Dad's antique shop around 9" tall. About 4" wide has chips and some glaze missing but in an interesting piece no maker's mark good decorative piece still has some dirt in it Thanks for looking. check out my other bottles on sale. This old Little Brown Jug is Stoneware Red Pottery and measures 6" 1/4th inches tall. It has the fingerhole handle and cork top and other then original firing imperfections. Has no damage! These Moonshine novelty jugs are getting hard to find and display wonderfully for many applications. I see a small maker's mark on the bottom but, can't seem to make it out. Old Stoneware Whiskey Jug Bottle Crock Brown 1 gallon antique Primitive Kitchen
Very nice. Old, stoneware whiskey jug, in a crock style. I believe it is a 1 gallon size. The top is dark brown and the bottom is a lighter beige. I can find no makers mark anywhere. It has a handle. There are no cracks. It does have two small chips as seen in photos. There are wonderful variations in color around the body that highlights the age and handmade look of this great piece. It weighs 5 1/2 pounds. Measures approx: 12" tall, 7" in diameter across the bottom, 22 1/2" around, 1/14" opening spout. It has a"shiny" surface. I think it was meant for liquor but not certain. Vintage stoneware bottle jug crock salt glazed miniature 3 1/2" USA MAKE OFFER
This Is a great little piece with some character. It does have a chip at the rim but no where else. There are several flaws in the glaze that were created at the time of glazing. Some little pin size spots and a 1" line across the bottom. There are a couple runny scratches as well. You have to really look for then. ANTIQUE 11" TALL STONEWARE GLAZED PITCHER/JUG/BOTTLE MUST L@K NICE Fresh from an estate here in Maine is Antique Stoneware Jug Bottle and it is really nice. It looks to be all hand thrown and has a great primtive look that would look awesome in someone's home. The jug measures 11 inches and 3 inches diameter. It has a really nice brown salt glaze on it. It is also marked on the front and the back which is usually not seen on these old bottles. It does have a seperation starting in the handle that was done during firing and has lasted all these years. It is still solid. This is must for a collector or collection believe me you will love it. Stoneware Jug Bottle Light Blue Wine Whiskey Vintage 11.1/4" Tall w Makers Mark This bottle is approximately 11.1/4" tall. The diameter is 9.5" and it weighs a little more than 2 pounds. There are some minor areas of peeling paint/glaze and a hairline crack or maker's defect along the neck. The bottom side is marked with what I believe to be the maker's mark with some numbers. I do not know the age or the maker. But I think this is old. The color is a light blue or some may call it a baby or sky blue.

Antique 19 c Figural Yellow Ware Flask Bottle Jug Folk Art Stoneware Mocha Rare!
Incredible old yellow ware figural flask. American or English first half 19th century I would guess around 1840. She is the real deal. A complete show stopper all hand modeled with incredible folk form. She has a small loss on collar and hand, but has held up incredibly well no cracks or major damage. Stands 9" tall and is signed on base I cannot read it. Very rare and stunning piece. No reserve 1 day auction!
