There is a surface crack around the bottom(pic. 4) but the jug doesn't leak. The bottom edge has a couple of chips, see pics. 5-6. There are a couple of spots where the brown shiny glaze wasn't applied uniformly at the factory. I do not have a cork for this jug. Shipping allows for double boxing. This is a very fine Western Stoneware 2 gallon crock jug. It is 12 inches tall and has a 8.75 inches diameter base. It is two-tone with a vivid brown top and a cream colored body. It has a big blue number 2 and a blue western stoneware maple leaf on the body. There appears to be only minor ware on the base. There are no visible chips on the handle or spout. There are some minor chips on the top edge of the body. The overall presentation is very nice with great luster. This would make a very nice display item.

The item for sale is a hard to find small antique stoneware Western Stoneware jug in good overall condition. This piece is original. The jug has ho chips or breaks. There is a seam separation where the top section meets the base section(see pics) This does not go through and the piece does not leak even under pressure. Up for sale is a three-gallon jug that was probably used for cider on the farm long ago. Made in Monmouth. IL at Western Stoneware, which succeded Monmouth Pottery in 1906, when several area potteries merged. The brown top is intact but the rest of the jug really shows its age. A great decorative item for a rural display.
