For your consideration is a jug that was manufactured by Red Wing Stoneware Co. of Red Wing. Minnesota. The debossed writing on the bottom says: RED WING STONEWARE Co. This company was founded in 1877 and existed until 1906; in 1906 it merged with Minnesota Stoneware Co. also located in Red Wing, Minn. and formed Red Wing Union Stoneware Co. This jug was manufactured 1885-1906. This jug was manufactured using a two piece mold and the handle was hand applied after the jug was formed. It is glazed with a shiny brown glaze. This jug has a total height of approximately 7 3/8" the bottom has a diameter of slightly less than 6" and the capacity was advertised as 1/2 of a gallon. This jug has 0 cracks, however on the bottom edge is a chip that can be completely covered with a dime. This jug does have glaze skips. The crock whiskey jug measures about 10 1/4 inches tall and 6 inches wide. It is pretty good condition but does have a couple of surface chips in the dark brown area toward the tan colored band. There's also crazing on the bottom and sides of the jug mainly noted in the light colored areas. The jug also has some pin holes that are normally seen on these jugs. This canteen shaped stoneware 1/2 gallon jug is a very rare piece with 10 or less known to exist. Made by the Whites Pottery. Utica, New York factory for the Utah Liquor Company. Whites Pottery, Utica, NY is famous for their cobalt paddletail and running bird stoneware designs that sell for thousands of dollars. It is salt glazed with cobalt blue. The front has the words"Utah Liquor Company and 167 South Main St" The backside features a scene of three men drinking. Below is more about the canteen and the Utah Liquor Company. One of the most prolific of the Utah liquors firms was the Utah Liquor Company. This firm is first noted in the 1894 in the Salt Lake City Directory. 1/2 Gallon Western Stoneware Shoulder Jug
For your consideration is a 1/2 gallon shoulder jug. Made the Western Stoneware Company. This company was formed in 1906 as a result of A.D. Philpot buying out seven regional manufacturers of stoneware products; then merging them together. These seven companies were located in three different states(Illinois, Missouri and Iowa) The headquarters of Western Stoneware were located in Monmouth, Illinois. The maple leaf and writing are in blue and cannot be scrubbed or scraped off. Below the shoulder, this jug has an off white glaze and above the shoulder, is brown glaze. The style of the maple leaf leads me to believe this jug was manufactured before 1940. This jug has a total height of slightly more than 9" From the surface it is sitting on to the shoulder is slightly more than 6" and the bottom is almost 5 1/2" in diameter. On ... morethe shoulder, are two chips; one of these chips is in the center of the front. The other chip is on the right side, but close to the back. Very close to the back, on the left side is a crack. This crack starts near the shoulder and continues all the way down the side and on to the bottom where it becomes two cracks. This vintage or antique beige and dark brown stoneware liquor jug is marked"A. C. Brauer Wholesale Liquor Dealers 390 Jackson Ave. Jersey City. N. J. in black or very dark blue. The half gallon jug(it actually holds about 8 oz. more than that) sits approx. 8 1/2" high and is about 5 1/4" across at the bottom. It is in very good condition. There are a couple of very small chips in the dark brown glaze. A few small chips in the bottom near the edge(not visible unless turned over) and a light area in the beige glazing(see last photo) I think this is a fairly uncommon jug; at the time of listing I saw no others from this company for sale anywhere. From Allen Sweet. Historian for the village of Montour Falls we learn"Haynes and Co. started shortly after Havana Became Montour Falls in 1895. It prospered and ran until the owners death in 1917. They made many different flavoring extracts. Including Vanilla, Mint, Almond and a number of others. The products all contained 6% ALCOHOL The owner tasted all of his products each day and was pretty consistently INEBRIATED. The owner spent a lot of time in front of his business and liked to PINCH BOTTOMS of nubile young ladies when they passed. The area quickly became OFF LIMITS to young ladies and remained so long after his death. Mr. Sweet reports that this is one of only three in existence that he is aware of. JEROME C. HAYNES Born in 1849 in Orleans. NY, moved to Lyons, NY and finally settled in Montour Falls, NY. In 1897 he opened and ... moreoperated a company to manufacture all manner of flavoring extracts. I tend to buy out entire households and collection lots, and I'm always trying to clear out space in my storage areas so I can buy more! Unusual. Old and rarely-seen things are my passion, so You are bidding on or purchasing: AN ANTIQUE BROWN STONEWARE PRIMITIVE GLAZED JUG. KENTUCKY FARM FIND 1/2 GALLON SIZE BOURBON WHISKEY MOONSHINE HAND TURNED GREAT FORM AND FINISH. ORIGINAL ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE STONEWARE JUG offered as acquired from estate. I discovered this piece a few years back in a barn in Henry County. Kentucky, and am offering it just as found- magnificent old piece with great form. Has subtly defined ribs from turning. Applied handle, and I really like the shape on this one; shoulders do not flare in a pronounced way, so you ... moreget more of a minie ball shape than a beehive. If it was good enough for a moonshiner, it's good enough for me! Jug holds 8 cups(1/2 gallon) of fluid comfortably to shoulders. Or 9 if the guy filling it up really likes you. Stands almost 10 inches tall and is about 5 1/4 inches diameter at base. Condition is difficult to describe with these pieces, as you expect some normal imperfections in the original glaze, and there may be a few original slips in the paint or pinpoint wear, but there are no notable chips, cracks, dings or repairs of any kind. One area around side/base join looks a bit jinxy, but this is obviously the original craftsmanship and not damage. There is one bit of a nick in the handle, but it is under the original paint and glaze. So it's original. There are plenty of photos from every angle, so check all of them out: This is a nice one here, with real character and collectible value- have at it! From an estate dispersal and at ebay for your consideration is this nice small 1/2 gallon stoneware jug with the cork still in it which we did not try to remove. The jug appears to be empty and is in excellent condition. No chips cracks or repairs. The dark spot(character mark) is where a stone popped in the firing. This jug measures 9 inches tall and 6 inches in diameter at the base. Very nice sized jug for a primitive display and it looks much better in person than in the photos. This is a beautiful old 19th Century Stoneware Jug in excellent original condition! It was made by F.B. Norton& Sons. Worchester Mass. It is nearly perfect, with the only flaw being a small chip near the rim(shown) that probably occurred during manufacturing, as it appears to be under the glaze. It measures 11" high, 7" wide, and is heavy at 7-8 pounds. Probably displayed most of its life, and it would be an excellent edition to your collection! Low starting bid and no reserve!

19th C 1 1/2 gallon stoneware advertising jug with cobalt decoration
Offered here without reserve is this 1 1/2 gallon stoneware jug with floral cobalt decoration that stamped not apparently to advertise its maker. But the merchant for who it was made- a merchant advertising"groceries, vins and liquers" She stands appx 13" high with a 7 5/8" diameter base. There are no hairlines or repairs, but the mouth to the jug is, as my 6th picture shows, considerably chipped up. Up for auction is a really neat vintage one-half gallon shoulder jug with a seldom seen color combination. This jug has a medium brown color on the top portion of the jug and dark brown on the bottom section. I can't recall ever seeing this color combination. The jug stands approximately 8 1/2" tall and has a base diameter of just under 6" This is a super cool smaller vintage should jug that is in excellent condition and has no chips.
