Large Antique Crockery Moonshine Jug with cork from Louisiana
This is a large antique stoneware jug from Louisiana. I am not sure of the exact age. But I know it is very old. It measures 16" tall by 12-1/2" in diameter. The opening with the cork is 1-3/4" in diameter. The jug is empty and very heavy. It is a family piece from a friend and was originally used to hold moonshine. The jug is in very good condition. This is a great piece of cream toned crockery. I'm downsizing my crocks and jugs which I have had since the 70's and boy this jug was well cared for long before me. It stands 11 inches tall with a base of 7 iches in diameter. It has a very nice sheen. There are some manufacturing blurbs. No cracks and only one man-made tiny chip on the bottom rim. Antique gallon whiskey jug with handle Appalachian crockery moonshine
This is a nice old Appalachian one gallon whiskey jug. This is a very old jug. With nice antique texture and color. It has a couple of small chips in the rim and a larger chip in the base, but the jug is structurally intact and stable. It will hold liquid, no cracks or holes. The base is 7" in diameter and the jug is 10 3/4" tall. I picked up this jug on the World's Longest Yard Sale here in Northeast Alabama. This old crock is in reaaly good condition and I am offering it as found. I have not cleaned the jug. It has some dust on it. But the fine craftsmanship and wonderful color are easy to see. Old Crockery Boot Leg Jug Stoneware Bottle Clay Folk Art Pottery Jug COOL!!
Up for auction is a very Old American Clay Pottery Jug. I know nothing about Old American Jugs. I think it looks like a Boot Leg bottle. A friend looked at them and I will tell you what he told me. He said that it has an applied handle-you can see the thumb print where it attached to the jug. It is pre 1900 and it is very crude. You can see all of the imperfections under the glaze. Globs of clay, and gouges out of the clay, star hairlines, all under the glaze. You can tell that this is hand thrown. It is so crudely finished. The base is not glazed, it has a nipple in the center with some chips on the edge of the base. Please look at the pictures, they are a very important part of the description. This jug is just under 10 inches tall, 5 1/2 inches across at the base, 1 1/2 inches across at the mouth and 18 3/4 around. This Jugs color is really ... moreinbetween the light and dark colors on listing, more of a medium in color. the lighter in color. The 2 colors that are in the pictures are from the flash. They were used to pickle and can fruits and vegetables for winter use. This 7" tall by 6 1/2" diameter jug is in great condition for it's age. There is a tiny bit of what looks like paint splatter.
