There is a small spot on the mouth of the jar where it wasn't completely covered with the brown glaze. I believe any other imperfections I see are only production flaws. The glazing on top is of brown swill. the bottom portion glazed in off white. Appears to be a two piece molded handle being put on after the jug mold and then glazed. Shows very little wear and observed no scratches couple of dings here and there check the picture. A few pin tip glaze flaws as you would expect. Antique Stoneware Whiskey Jug Crock 1 Gallon Blue Black Glaze
This whiskey jug was in my grandparents garage for years. It is a gallon ju g made of heavy stoneware ceramic with a glass like salt glaze on the top and inside. There are no markings. The jug has a carved wooden stopper. The glaze is unusual in that the color is not as brown as other jugs like it. But a blue black color except for right around the bottom edge of the glaze which is brownish. The ju g stands 12 inches tall and the diameter is 6-1/2 inches. Thanks for looking!

Very prominently displayed in blue print on the side of the jug is the WESTERN STONEWARE MAPLE LEAF LOGO. This Jug is in excellent condition for it's age- see pictures. There is 1 small 1/2" nick(see picture) along the top edge(where the brown/white meet) There are two manufacturing flaws along the side and bottom of jug(see picture) but these are mold marks from when the jug was originally made. Antique C Hermann Whiskey Jug Salt Glazed Rust and Brown Tones 1 gallon
This is a wonderful old crockery sipping jug. Although I do not know how anyone could possibly sip from a jug as heavy as this. This weighs almost 10 pounds, you can tell it is a very old jug the minute you lift it. On the jug is the emblem for C. Hermann& Co. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We looked this company up and they stopped making this kind of jug in 1875 so it cannot be newer than that. It is in remarkable condition with no chips or cracks. This jug is almost 9 inches high and about 6 inches in diameter. The jug has a salt glaze. The red brown color occupies the first 2/3 of the jug and then moves to dark brown to tan. The bottom is unglazed. As I said this is a very heavy item. Careful packaging requires a larger box that will hold substantial packaging material. It is a salt glazed whiskey crock/jug and it holds approximately 1 gallon. It is olive/grey color and is a great find for collectors of antique stoneware. Condition: This item is antique and shows reasonable wear for its age. There are some factory defect bubbles in the glaze that have a dark tint to them. There is a very minor flat spot that is almost unnoticeable. There are some flea bites on this jug. Light chipping can be found near the edge of the items base and near the top of the spout. Possible factory defect gaps on both sides of the handle ... morewhere it meets the spout. The item almost sits perfectly flat but has a slight wiggle. Estate find. A 1/2 gallon pottery whiskey moonshine jug. This jug is in pretty good shape for its age. I do not see any cracks in this. There is normal vintage some normal wear,discoloration and overall"old" look. Measures approximately 9" tall and approximately 6" wide. with cork lid. Very nice collectible. I know very little about this item so please ask questions. there is 2 small splits on handle and one on lip of jug. to me they look like they have been there since it was made.
