For your consideration is a jug that was manufactured by Red Wing Stoneware Co. of Red Wing. Minnesota. The debossed writing on the bottom says: RED WING STONEWARE Co. This company was founded in 1877 and existed until 1906; in 1906 it merged with Minnesota Stoneware Co. also located in Red Wing, Minn. and formed Red Wing Union Stoneware Co. This jug was manufactured 1885-1906. This jug was manufactured using a two piece mold and the handle was hand applied after the jug was formed. It is glazed with a shiny brown glaze. This jug has a total height of approximately 7 3/8" the bottom has a diameter of slightly less than 6" and the capacity was advertised as 1/2 of a gallon. This jug has 0 cracks, however on the bottom edge is a chip that can be completely covered with a dime. This jug does have glaze skips. Early J. Fisher Lyons NY Jug 2 Gallon Cobalt Script Design Stoneware Antique
This 2 gallon jug came from an auction in Vermont. It has the cobalt script design with the number 2 and the imprint J. Fisher Lyons. NY. This is the mark of Jacob Fisher who ran the pottery in Lyons, N.Y. from 1872 through 1902. The jug measures 13 1/2" high and 9" in diameter at the base. It is in good condition for it's age, no cracks. There are two chips on the spout, see the 7th and 8th pictures. There is some wear, use and surface marks. The base has a surface chip/rub spot, see the 11th picture. The jug is a tan color.

Up for auction is a 1850's Edmands& Co. 2 gallon cobalt blue decorated speckled bird on branch stoneware jug. This image is of a lovely speckled bird perched on a branch. The specks on the bird and the leaves are heavily raised dots of cobalt blue. There are some large cracks to the body(as shown in photos) Also a chip on the handle and a couple of small chips to the bottom of this jug. However, this does not take away from this rare image, still in such great condition. Edmands& Co. was in Charlestown, Mass. Edward and Thomas Edmands ran the pottery company from 1852- 1868. It is very difficult to read the stamp on the bottom except the 1944 which I assume is for the date. Extremely Scarce 1890's Utah Liquor Co. 1/2 Gallon stoneware canteen with the original handle. No cracks or chips. This canteen is in amazing condition. This canteen shaped stoneware 1/2 gallon jug is a very rare piece with 10 or less known to exist. Made by the Whites Pottery. Utica, New York factory for the Utah Liquor Company. Whites Pottery, Utica, NY is famous for their cobalt paddletail and running bird stoneware designs that sell for thousands of dollars. It is salt glazed with cobalt blue. The front has the words"Utah Liquor Company and 167 South Main St" The backside features a scene of three men drinking. Below is more about the canteen and the Utah Liquor Company. One of the most prolific of the Utah liquors firms was the Utah Liquor Company. This firm is first noted in the 1894 in the Salt Lake City Directory. Up for auction is an antique two gallon stoneware jug that has an ovoid shape with a cobalt blue decoration and an impressed maker's mark for Samuel W. Hurd of Peekskill. New York. It is 11 3/4" tall and the base diameter is 7 3/4" It has an attached handle. There is a cobalt blue decoration on the front of the jug and the handle is accented with the blue cobalt. It has an impressed"2" along with"SAMUEL W. HURD MANUFACTURER PEEKSKILL" There is an incised encircling line at the neck. The cork is on the inside of the jug. The condition is good with the exception of several very small nicks or chips at the mouth of the jug, and one 3/4" long chip plus multiple small chips at the base. Jug shows well with very clear imprint in capital letters over numeral"2" over a bold and New England typical butterfly wing plume spray with dotted pistil on top done in thick and very stable cobalt blue slip. Strong single rear strap handle is particularly nice on this example and easy to grasp. It has an overall lightly dappled dimpled surface in tannish grey color with one mild line drip and kiss mark on rear from kiln ... moremanufacture. 1/2 Gallon Western Stoneware Shoulder Jug
For your consideration is a 1/2 gallon shoulder jug. Made the Western Stoneware Company. This company was formed in 1906 as a result of A.D. Philpot buying out seven regional manufacturers of stoneware products; then merging them together. These seven companies were located in three different states(Illinois, Missouri and Iowa) The headquarters of Western Stoneware were located in Monmouth, Illinois. The maple leaf and writing are in blue and cannot be scrubbed or scraped off. Below the shoulder, this jug has an off white glaze and above the shoulder, is brown glaze. The style of the maple leaf leads me to believe this jug was manufactured before 1940. This jug has a total height of slightly more than 9" From the surface it is sitting on to the shoulder is slightly more than 6" and the bottom is almost 5 1/2" in diameter. On ... morethe shoulder, are two chips; one of these chips is in the center of the front. The other chip is on the right side, but close to the back. Very close to the back, on the left side is a crack. This crack starts near the shoulder and continues all the way down the side and on to the bottom where it becomes two cracks. As you can see this is an Old Style Stoneware Jug with No shoulder on the top 1/3 a rounded Top. The Old Stoneware Just is a 1 ½ gallon size and stands 11 ¾" high and 6 ½" wide. The Old Whiskey Moonshine Jug came from a recent estate sale here in New England and is a Tan& very dark Brown almost black and could use some cleaning prior to display. The Jug is in very good pre-owned condition with your typical glaze pops here and there and a small chip on the ringed handle that we pictured. They used refillable stoneware jugs to supply the saloons and picked up empty jugs and refilled them over and over again. I googled this info"Soloman Jacobson whiskey Buffalo Ny" It is 13" Tall and 9" at the base. HAS NO CRACKS one very light chip on the base,has a hand applied handle.
