I must have looked at Thousands of pieces of Stoneware, putting in every keyword I could think of for this type of slip or glaze, and could find nothing like it. I will welcome any idea's from a collector! I do not know it's exact age. It may be vintage, Antique, but it is not marked, like most modern pieces. It is quite beautiful. With it's speckled or mottled Brown with a slight Red Rust shading glaze or slip. I don't think it's Spongeware. And with the lighter clay base is seen dotted in background, those surface dots are indented. Giving it a slightly rough surface. The brown glaze is glossy. But the Cobalt Blue floral decoration, shading slightly to a lighter Sky Blue on edges, is very high gloss. Heavy. Weighs ~2.5 pounds! Jug measures about 5-1/4" H. 6" diameter including handle May be a really rare piece! Don't miss adding it to your collection!

Glaze is nicely variegated- study photos to get the feel and look of this relatively heavy piece(for its size) Does not appear to be missing a lid- the way the opening was made, I do not believe this ever had a lid, at least not a ceramic one that would have been incorporated into the clay design when the piece was hand thrown. Looks like this crock could originate from the Catawba Valley Pottery, but just my opinion. Glaze& form reminds me a little bit of Pewabic Pottery pieces, but not iridescent. Not much wear given its age- glaze has rubbed off in a few small spots around the rim(see photo) but no serious chips or cracks. Bottom is unmarked. All sales are final- no returns. It said that they made deliveries by wheelbarrow. The crock measures 13" high and 11 3/8" in diameter. There is a chip on the bottom edge, see the 10th picture. There is a crack that starts on one side where the brown turns to tan and runs down to the middle of the bottom. There are 3 indentations on the bottom edge that must have been made during the manufacturing process because they are glazed over. There are some drips marks, see the 2nd picture. There are also residue marks on the inside.

Looks to be about a 1/2 gallon container. Possibly a water, molasses or syrup pitcher. This jug is in very good condition with no cracks and just some very minor chipping around the spout. Details can be seen in the photos. It measures approximately 8 1/2" tall. 22" wide around the middle and 6 1/2" wide across the bottom. There are no identifying markings on this piece, but there are a few things we can tell you about it. We purchased this and a few other earthenware pieces(see our other auctions! from an estate auction here in beautiful Western Massachusetts. Antique 5 Gallon Brown Glazed Top Tennessee Stoneware Pottery Whisky Beehive Jug
This is a fantastic antique two-toned brown and natural glazed stoneware whisky jug from Tennessee that is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. It is beautiful all over with the rich. Even, shiny, brown glaze on the top and the even natural toned glaze on the bottom that is covered with natural crazing from age(shown in the last photo) giving it a charming vintage look. There is some light scuffing and scratching on the surface, but no other obvious damage. I haven't tried to fill it, but it is the same size as other 5 gallon jugs I have and it is definitely larger than a 3 gallon, so I believe it holds 5 gallons. It measures 11" W x 18" H and will be packed very well, double boxed, and insured during shipping.

Bristol Brown Glazed & Gray Stoneware Pottery Jug
