Up for auction today is this very cool old Crock Jug. As you can see in the pictures the colors are nice and bright with some shine to it. There are some imperfections but not many and this Jug as held up well over time.There are no chips or Cracks. This is a great display piece to add to your collection. I believe this is 1/2 gallon. VINTAGE ANTIQUE CROCK STONEWARE JUG W CORK APPROX 1/2 GALLON MOONSHINE WHISKEY Up for auction we have a nice antique stoneware crock moonshine jug. The jug has a brown top and then a band of tan coloring and then cream color on the bottom section. It has an applied handle and is estimated to be half gallon size. The crock whiskey jug measures about 10 1/4 inches tall and 6 inches wide. It is pretty good condition but does have a couple of surface chips in the dark brown area toward the tan colored band. There's also crazing on the bottom and sides of the jug mainly noted in the light colored areas. The jug also has some pin holes that are normally seen on these jugs. Offered is this small vintage or antique beige and dark brown moonshine whiskey jug. The jug stands approx. 9 1/4" high. Is 5 1/2" across at the base and holds about 1/2 gallon. It is in very good condition. There is a small rough area on the top of the handle which is partially glazed over so apparently done while being made. There are numerous bumps and raised areas along the sides. Also glazed over. There are some small chips some stray dark brown glaze along the top rim. The half gallon jug(it actually holds about 8 oz. more than that) sits approx. 8 1/2" high and is about 5 1/4" across at the bottom. It is in very good condition. There are a couple of very small chips in the dark brown glaze. A few small chips in the bottom near the edge(not visible unless turned over) and a light area in the beige glazing(see last photo) I think this is a fairly uncommon jug; at the time of listing I saw no others from this company for sale anywhere. From Allen Sweet. Historian for the village of Montour Falls we learn"Haynes and Co. started shortly after Havana Became Montour Falls in 1895. It prospered and ran until the owners death in 1917. They made many different flavoring extracts. Including Vanilla, Mint, Almond and a number of others. The products all contained 6% ALCOHOL The owner tasted all of his products each day and was pretty consistently INEBRIATED. The owner spent a lot of time in front of his business and liked to PINCH BOTTOMS of nubile young ladies when they passed. The area quickly became OFF LIMITS to young ladies and remained so long after his death. Mr. Sweet reports that this is one of only three in existence that he is aware of. JEROME C. HAYNES Born in 1849 in Orleans. NY, moved to Lyons, NY and finally settled in Montour Falls, NY. In 1897 he opened and ... moreoperated a company to manufacture all manner of flavoring extracts. I tend to buy out entire households and collection lots, and I'm always trying to clear out space in my storage areas so I can buy more! Unusual. Old and rarely-seen things are my passion, so You are bidding on or purchasing: AN ANTIQUE BROWN STONEWARE PRIMITIVE GLAZED JUG. KENTUCKY FARM FIND 1/2 GALLON SIZE BOURBON WHISKEY MOONSHINE HAND TURNED GREAT FORM AND FINISH. ORIGINAL ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE STONEWARE JUG offered as acquired from estate. I discovered this piece a few years back in a barn in Henry County. Kentucky, and am offering it just as found- magnificent old piece with great form. Has subtly defined ribs from turning. Applied handle, and I really like the shape on this one; shoulders do not flare in a pronounced way, so you ... moreget more of a minie ball shape than a beehive. If it was good enough for a moonshiner, it's good enough for me! Jug holds 8 cups(1/2 gallon) of fluid comfortably to shoulders. Or 9 if the guy filling it up really likes you. Stands almost 10 inches tall and is about 5 1/4 inches diameter at base. Condition is difficult to describe with these pieces, as you expect some normal imperfections in the original glaze, and there may be a few original slips in the paint or pinpoint wear, but there are no notable chips, cracks, dings or repairs of any kind. One area around side/base join looks a bit jinxy, but this is obviously the original craftsmanship and not damage. There is one bit of a nick in the handle, but it is under the original paint and glaze. So it's original. There are plenty of photos from every angle, so check all of them out: This is a nice one here, with real character and collectible value- have at it! I know very little about this item so please ask questions. there is 2 small splits on handle and one on lip of jug. to me they look like they have been there since it was made. This is a nice vintage brown glazed stoneware jug with wide mouth(3 3/8" across the top. Opening is 2 5/8" The glaze is fantastic; smooth, shiny, and even with large areas of yellow/green discoloration that happened during firing in the kiln. It is in excellent condition with absolutely no chips or cracks, just a few light scuffs and scratches. This piece displays beautifully. It measures 9 3/4" H x 7 1/4" in diameter.
