There are no cracks but a chip under glaze shown in photo#9 which should be considered a pottery flaw. This item is in good"as found" condition considering the age and use with minimal if any crazing. Any flaws in paint or glaze should be considered a manufacturing flaw and not damage. It originally came from my Grandpa. Who was an avid stoneware collector. Nice original wire bail with a wood handle, painted black. Stands 10 3/8" tall and 7" in diameter. Several glaze pops on the body, crazing, some light staining(one spot is pink) and wear on the handle. Original cork, still stuck in the mouth. There's a 5/8" x 3/8" fleck type chip at the foot. Antique vintage brown salt glaze stoneware whiskey jug one handle
This is a smallish dark brown stoneware jug. 6 1/2 inches tall and 4 3/4 inches across at the base. Condition is gently used. No chips or cracks. There are some little bumps and flaws in the glaze, as is usual with this type of stoneware.

Up for your bidding consideration is a vintage stoneware jug made in the USA. On the front in gold is a crest with words that appear to be Latin. Under the crest it says in gold Spring'71. It is approximately 10" tall and 5 1/4" across the bottom. There are no chips. Cracks, or signs of repair. There are a few scuff marks on the bottom, the cork has a chip out of it, and on the brown stoneware there is tape residue and on the tape it apparently said 100. This is a nice old Appalachian one gallon whiskey jug. This is a very old jug. With nice antique texture and color. It has a couple of small chips in the rim and a larger chip in the base, but the jug is structurally intact and stable. It will hold liquid, no cracks or holes. The base is 7" in diameter and the jug is 10 3/4" tall. I picked up this jug on the World's Longest Yard Sale here in Northeast Alabama. This old crock is in reaaly good condition and I am offering it as found. I have not cleaned the jug. It has some dust on it. But the fine craftsmanship and wonderful color are easy to see. This is a wonderful piece of Pennsylvania Dutch Art History. This is a whiskey Stoneware Jug with a wooden handle and 2 ceramic holes for the bale. What makes it so special is that it has then hand painted by Paul"Papa" Horning circa 1964-1972. Paul Horning was native PA Dutch. Born in Nov 17, 1884 into a Mennonite family in Berks County. He rejected much of the faith and conservative style. Forced to leave school at the age of 10, he was self educated and actually taught school at the age of 25 for a few years. He was skilled in pen& ink, as well as cartooning and was sought after by the local newspaper for illustrations. Instead he went into banking, insurance, and sales. He did not return to his love of painting until he retired to Florida with his wife. Once she passed. He returned to PA to be near his children. Vintage Whiskey Moonshine Crock Jug Brown Top With Handle and Cork
This auction is for a Vintage Whiskey or Moonshine Crock Jug. It is brown on top an lighter color on bottom. Has a handle and cork. I do not know if the cork is original to the bottle. I do not want to try to remove it for fear it will break or crack apart. Measures 11" tall not including cork. Some pits and seeds from when it was made. Has a small ding in side which I think is from when it was made because it is glazed over. Not exposed. Small hole in bottom but I don't think it goes through to inside, but I cant guarantee it without verifying it by taking out cork, which I don't dare do because it will crack. Some scratches and divots from when it was made. Çouple small chips on top and bottom of jug has some of the brown paint from top splattered on it when it was made. Believing this is a hand made jug not a mold type. There is no markings or name of maker. This is a two tone. Light cream and a dark brown glazed stoneware pre 1900? This is vintage. Used condition with a few chips, no cracks. Chips along top of the cream area and few on the bottom from use. Pic taken of chip on the brown part. Handle is in good condition. VINTAGE Whiskey Jug Stoneware Pottery 2 1/2 Gallons Cork Crock Handle Saltware
Here is a Vintage Stoneware Whiskey/ Water Jug with a Handle and Cork. It belonged to my in-laws and has been in storage for a long time. If the whole jug is filled it is 2 1/2 Gallons(it has a small corn cob in it that had been used where the cork is) It measures 14 1/2" Tall. 9 3/4" in Width. It weighs almost 10 lbs. empty. I don't know if this is what is considered saltware as there are no markings that I can find. It is in good condition. There are some chips and a very small crack(it only appears to be in the glazing and does not go all the way through, please see pics) I will ship it as cheap as possible and it will include insurance. This pottery jug is from the Mitchell Bros. Distillery- the 1st distillery in Scotland which started in 1828. This jug is 7" in height and 4.5" in diameter. It has an under glaze transfer of printed words"The Greybeard" on the shoulder and"Heather Dew Scotch Whiskey. Mitchell Bros. LTD. Distillers, Glasgow on the front. The picture shows a pair of kilted Scotsmen with raised glasses having a drink out on the moor with the Highlands in the background. The bottle also carries the statement"FEDERAL LAW FORBIDS SALE OR REUSE OF THIS BOTTLE" which dates it back to the times of prohibition in the United States when all liquor sold was required to be in bottles carrying that statement. This is an unusual whiskey/moonshine jug with the wire and wood handle. It is about 9 1/2" to top of jug and is almost 7" across the bottom. This is an old jug and the wire handles are bent. The chip on the top is just glaze deep and the one on the bottom is not bad. Considering the life these had it is a wonder they survived. Not sure how much it holds. Maybe 2 gals or less. This is a perfect over the shoulder whiskey jug/crock. There is some discoloration in the glaze on the handle like the bottom. Very nice jug great for collector or to make that extra pop in your décor! I find no chips or cracks in this jug/crock.

Great looking old tyme stoneware whiskey style 1 gallon jug with a single handle. It measures approx. 11" tall and 7" across the bottom. There are many flaws in the finish that have been there since the jug was produced. Even the chip on the bottom rim has a glaze on it so probably original. Study pictures for condition. Antique (whiskey?) jug. great shape, some cracks, original handle and cork
I am guessing this jug was made in USA. No expert tho. I cannot find a name or number etc to help identify it. It certainly is old though. It still has the original wire handle with wooden piece to carry it plus it has what looks like the original plug(wood or corn cob? I placed cushions on the bottom to protect my floor. I did not open it and don't suggest that you do as the plug can be easily chipped away. There is a very thin crack almost all around the parameter of the spout. There are marks here and there of time and age and wear I suspect. Great shape really. DO NOT pick up only my handle is my suggestion. Pick up my hand and place hand underneath at the same time. This is a piece of history and/or Americana that has lasted many many years. It measures: 10.5 inches high(without the handle) Handle drop: about 3.5 inches, and circumference; ... more23 inches. Nice little primitive mini jug. The upper part and neck has a band of brick brown, the body a speckled beige. There's a tiny little handle. The bottom is glazed, with a dry foot and embossed USA. On the outer edge of the bottleneck is a 3/16" long chip mostly just to the glaze. MEASURES APPROXIMATELY 4 1/4" tall. 1 3/4" across the bottom, 3/4" across the top of the neck. this has a couple surface cracks they do not go threw. Antique Clear Glass Gallon Whiskey Jug Jar w/Wire & Wood Handle VERY UNIQUE
This antique clear glass gallon jug(jar) came from the contents of an antique store. It has a wire and wooden handle. It has no chips. There are bubbles and imperfections in the glass as was common from the time period. It also has something dark around the top. I honestly think that could be removed. But I do not clean for fear of devaluing an antique. I will leave that decision to the buyer. It is a little over 6" wide and approximately 11" tall. It weighs almost 5 lbs. Antique LITTLE BROWN JUG- Glazed Stoneware/Ceramic- Moonshine/Whiskey Jug- Spout& Applied Handle. This"little brown jug" measures about 7-3/4" to the top of the handle; 5-5/8" base diameter; 6-1/4" at widest part. There are no markings as to manufacturer. Location, or date. The spout has a cork in it. The jug has an applied handle. There is a chip at the base(about 3/4" x 1/4" below the spout. There are a few rough spots in the ceramic. The brown color has lighter areas under the glaze(see last photo) The jug has nice balance when holding by the handle.
