Antique. Western Stoneware Co. 1 gallon, top pattern Western Shoulder jug. Rare top patterned, No 1 in a maple leaf. Measures 10 1/4 inches tall and the base is 7 inches across. Has a very thin hair line crack on the spout(picture 7) but not bad. There is a mold defect when it was fired, and appears to have caused a glaze bubble which made the hole on top of maple leaf. This not a chip but occured during the firing process. Makes in unique. There is a chip on the bottom of jug which you cannot see when sitting on a surface. Comes from a smoke free home. It is a 1 gallon shoulder/whiskey jug. It has the maple leaf logo on the front. The jug is about 10.5 inches tall and just under 7 inches in diameter. It was preowned but was very well taken care of. I see a few shallow chips on the front rim(where the white portion begins) There is a 3 inch rough section along the rim on the back, as well as a small hairline crack. There is a small spot on the mouth of the jar where it wasn't completely covered with the brown glaze. I believe any other imperfections I see are only production flaws. Nice old one gallon whiskey shoulder jug from Western Stoneware Co. in Monmouth. IL. It has been used and shows some wear mainly around the bottom. There is a surface crack around the bottom(pic. 4) but the jug doesn't leak. The bottom edge has a couple of chips, see pics. 5-6. There are a couple of spots where the brown shiny glaze wasn't applied uniformly at the factory. I do not have a cork for this jug. Shipping allows for double boxing. Up for auction is an Antique 4 gallon Primitive Stoneware Moonshine Shoulder Jug with a Southwest Scene hand painted on it. The hand painting is old but I think it postdates the manufacture of the piece. The hand painting will probably easily rub off with a little mineral spirits if you don't like it. It is in decent shape for its age. A few small surface chips which I have shown in the pictures. No cracks. The typical wear to the surface found on these old jugs. Stoneware Three Gallon Transitional Shoulder Jug. Hand Decorated w/ White Glaze
For your consideration is a three gallon jug that was made after the manufactured converted the kiln(s) to fire stoneware items with white glaze. But still decorated the items by hand. Most manufacturers started using the white glaze and rubber stamps to apply writing, decorations and size during the middle and late 1890s, but some started using that technology as late as 1902. Yes, that is a 3, I know this by sitting this jug next to crocks and jugs that the gallonage is very legible. The writing is blue. The total height is 15 1/4" and from the table to the shoulder is 10 5/8" The bottom is 9 1/4" in diameter. There are 0 cracks, however on the shoulder are minor to insignificant chips on the shoulder. On the bottom edge, is one larger chip, also there are minor to insignificant chips. For your consideration is a two gallon jug made of stoneware. I do not know the identity of the manufacturer. The top of the handmade and hand attached handle is slightly above the opening. Also the places where the top and bottom of the handle are attached are not straight with each other. The total height is approximately 13" From the surface it is sitting on to the shoulder is 8 3/8" and the bottom is 9" in diameter. There is a large and shallow chip on the spout. There are numerous manufacturing defects(the way the 2 was stamped, the attachment of the handle, the runny glaze with glaze skips, etc. This jug needs proper cleaning.

For your consideration is a 1/2 gallon shoulder jug. Made the Western Stoneware Company. This company was formed in 1906 as a result of A.D. Philpot buying out seven regional manufacturers of stoneware products; then merging them together. These seven companies were located in three different states(Illinois, Missouri and Iowa) The headquarters of Western Stoneware were located in Monmouth, Illinois. The maple leaf and writing are in blue and cannot be scrubbed or scraped off. Below the shoulder, this jug has an off white glaze and above the shoulder, is brown glaze. The style of the maple leaf leads me to believe this jug was manufactured before 1940. This jug has a total height of slightly more than 9" From the surface it is sitting on to the shoulder is slightly more than 6" and the bottom is almost 5 1/2" in diameter. The condition is very good– no cracks, no later years chips, on the shoulder edge there is a flaw that is glazed over, probably from manufacturing. There are 2 glaze pops and a couple rough spots. Having lived in Northern Michigan, I've seen quite a few Red Wing jugs& crocks– the condition of this one is a lot better than many I have seen. REALLY COOL VINTAGE STONEWARE SHOULDER JUG 1/2 GALLON - MED. BROWN/DARK BROWN
Up for auction is a really neat vintage one-half gallon shoulder jug with a seldom seen color combination. This jug has a medium brown color on the top portion of the jug and dark brown on the bottom section. I can't recall ever seeing this color combination. The jug stands approximately 8 1/2" tall and has a base diameter of just under 6" This is a super cool smaller vintage should jug that is in excellent condition and has no chips. Cracks, or defects of any kind! Would be a welcome addition to your stoneware collectibles. I am not an expert in any field of collectibles. However. Here's a vintage WESTERN STONEWARE ONE gallon jug. Someone long ago painted XXX on the side. Done very nicely and will save you the time if you plan on using it as a showpiece. One small chip under the bottom edge under the last X on bottom edge. Not deep at all just thought I'd mention it. Has original cork but a piece cracked off in the mouth of the jug. I tried to remove the piece but it fell inside the jug. The cork still looks good when placed on top. Antique 2 Gallon Two-Tone Brown Top Stoneware Whisky Moonshine Shoulder Jug
This is a nice. Very old 2 gallon brown top stoneware whisky jug. It has some wear to the glaze from age and use(glaze flakes along the rim, two flea bites, scuffs and scratches, a few stains) but it has a fantastic vintage look and there are no cracks or other chips. It measures 12 1/2" H x 9" W and will be packed very well, double boxed, and insured during shipping.

Very interesting heavy thick walled glazed stoneware jug with applied handle. AKA whisky moonshine shoulder jug. It measures 11" tall and 7" wide at base. It has age discoloration. Crazing and makers imperfections on it but it is solid with no cracks or chunks missing. Really nice patina. I have owned it for 10 years and wood cork and cotton rag was in when I got it.
