When you look closely you can see the potters fingerprint inside the handle where it was held as it was dipped into the albany slip finish. It's topped with what could be the original cork. Antique Stoneware: ca.1870 NY Beehive Jug w/ Cobalt, AO WHITTEMORE, Havana
A commanding 3Gal. Beehive Jug bearing an impressed. Cobalt-washed stamp that reads: A.O. WHITTEMORE, HAVANA, NY. This is the mark of Albert Whittemore, who operated a stoneware manufactory in Havana Village, just west of Ithaca 1863-1893; the area is now known as Montour Falls. Whittemore Beehives are quite scarce, and this one is very impressive. The brushed Cobalt Floral Is flanked by a pair of freehand"3's" The capacity is also impressed on the shoulder, just above the cobalt decoration. This is an early Whittemore Jug that dates to around 1870. The overall condition is excellent. There are some tight hairlines near the lower right side(see close-up) one travels about 3/4 into the base. There are also some typical imperfections created during manufacture(stack marks, glaze skips and drips, etc) The applied strap handle and ... morespout are nearly flawless- there is one tiny nick on the inside rim. Antique Salt Glazed Stoneware Moonshine/ Whiskey Jug Size: 2 Quart Circa 1800's This Antique Salt Glazed Stoneware Moonshine/ Whiskey Jug is in good conditioon considering it's age! It measures approximately 9 3/4 iinches tall with a 5 1/4 inch base. It's a 2 quart size with glazing inside.and is a grayish.brownish color. It has some small chips on the rim and a chip on the base which measures about 1 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch. There is no makers mark.nor is there any moonshine left in it!

Antique Primitive Beehive Stoneware Crock Jug with Bail Handle / Moonshine Jug
This is an antique primitive beehive crock jug that belonged to my Mom. It appears to be very old but does not have any markings on the bottom. The handle is bent. But appears to be the original handle. There are a few spots where the glaze did not stick to the crock when it was glazed. There is a dark spot near the top of the jug. There are also a few chips around the top and bottom edges. The jug is about 10 1/2" tall and 25" around at the widest point. PayPal only please. Shipping only within the U.S. The cost of the shipping that I have listed is for parcel post to the farthest zone from me. I will adjust the shipping cost lower if you live in a closer zone to me. Two Gallon Beehive Style Multi Colored Stoneware Jug
For your consideration is a two gallon stoneware jug. This jug is the beehive style with a slightly ovoid shape and the glaze has more than one color. This jug was made in such a way that part of the handle is above the opening. This jug has a maximum height of approximately 11 1/2" and the bottom is almost 9 3/8" in diameter. The yellows and browns are the different colors in the glaze. However the dark red was made by me where I colored glaze peeling, glaze flaking and other imperfections with a permanent felt tip marker; I can't criticize myself for the coloring, because it does look better. This jug has 0 cracks, however it does have a chip on the opening and many chips around the bottom. Please, carefully examine the pictures, as the pictures are part of the description. An exceptional 19thC. American Beehive Jug. Glazed in extra-dark(almost black) Albany Slip, ca.1860. Features an applied strap handle, very-desirable Bird's Beak Spout, and a single incised line around the shoulder. Unmarked, but likely a Southern piece for Molasses or Whiskey. This is a very nice example with beautiful, early form and proportion; 1Gal. capacity. Excellent overall condition. There are a few minor nicks on the spout, two glaze skips on the body(handle left) and a crescent-shape scar that occurred in the making(see close-up) Also, several drips and fingerprints near the base. There is some indecipherable script written on the bottom. No hairlines, cracks or repaired damage. Please see photos for complete details and further description. Antique Beehive 8” Tall Stoneware Jug
This small handled jug(half gallon. Possibly) is in very good condition. It has a semi-glossy glaze that covers the side and 1” into the lip interior. Besides minor scuffing, its only from-use blemish is a crack on the lip. During manufacturing, some glaze has dripped to the bare ring at the bottom of the jug. The provenance of the jug cannot be determined as it has no markings. It has a handmade quality in the irregularity of the cylinder and glaze drips along base. It is very good condition given its age and likely use. There is a chip at its base(see photo) that is nearly unobservable given the color of the stoneware. 1850-1880'S "Beehive" Ovoid Salt Glaze Stoneware Jug With Orignal Cork
This is a 19th to very early 20th CENTURY OVOID SALT GLAZE STONEWARE JUG with COBALT MOTIF. VERY LARGE VINTAGE STONEWARE JUG. VERY UNUSUAL TO HAVE THE ORIGINAL CORK(wood stopper) The JUG is called a“BEEHIVE” style and the motif on the front of the jug is supposed to be a bee. It is Pennsylvania-New York Stoneware. 1850-1880, but it could be from several makers. the piece is hand painted. Stoneware like that is fired to a VERY high temperature(about 2300 degrees F) and about 1720, American potters began producing a form of stoneware developed in many Europe centuries earlier-stoneware glazed with salt and decorated with cobalt blue with a Beautiful Symbol painted in Blue. Salt glazed stoneware like this was very common in the 19th-Century America and potters produced it all over the country, sometimes stamping it with their maker’s marks- ... morebut most of the time, they did not put on an actual name-like this one. I really don't deal with jugs a whole lot. But this one really caught my eye. It really has that beehive shape to it. Especially since the bottom narrows down just like the top does. Most times it is just the top. There are two things that I will mention about it and you can decide for yourself with the pictures. Towards the bottom below the handle is a small dime sized piece that is chipped off a little. It does not go through and is just on the surface. But is there just the same and needs to be mentioned. The other one is on the handle where the thumb is placed. It is a different color than the rest. I am not sure if this was made like this to give the thumb a not so smooth surface for gripping possibly. It looks to have been made like this from the factory because the color closest to the spout bleeds over onto the lighter colored part. Regardless. This is a 19 th to very early 20 th CENTURY OVOID SALT GLAZE STONEWARE JUG with COBALT MOTIF. VERY LARGE VINTAGE STONEWARE JUG with the letter“H“ mark. The JUG is called a“BEEHIVE” style and the motif on the front of the jug is supposed to be a bee. It is Pennsylvania-New York Stoneware. 1850-1880, but it could be from several makers. It is likely a batch firing sequence used by the potter, they generally used a letter instead of numbers on limited runs, meaning the piece is hand painted. Stoneware like that is fired to a VERY high temperature(about 2300 degrees F) and about 1720, American potters began producing a form of stoneware developed in many Europe centuries earlier-stoneware glazed with salt and decorated with cobalt blue that is signed“H“ with a Beautiful Symbol painted in Blue. Salt glazed stoneware like this was very common in ... morethe 19 th-Century America and potters produced it all over the country. Up for auction I have a nice old stoneware jug. I do not know if this is considered a 2 or three gallon jug. The jug is 13-1/4 inches tall. 9 inches across and weighs 10 pounds. There is one bad chip in the side, near the base as shown in the pictures, and there are 2 more I did not really get in the pictures but they are only a fifth of the size and the rest is just the minor roughage you would expect to see. The handle and spout are in good shape. The lighter colors you see around the spout and handle is where the jug was not fully glazed. There are some light spots near the base also. The handle of the jug is still intact and it appears to have the original cork(see top view photo) or at least one with notable age to it. There are several larger chips on the lower portion of the jug(see side view photos) and other smaller chips as well. The jug measures 8" tall to the bottom of the handle and 8" across the bottom of the jug. It stands 9.5" to the top of the cork. We believe this to be a 1 gallon jug based on the dimensions. There are a couple of incised marks on the bottom but they do not appear to be lettering of any kind so the maker is unknown. This is an unusual whiskey/moonshine jug with the wire and wood handle. It is about 9 1/2" to top of jug and is almost 7" across the bottom. This is an old jug and the wire handles are bent. The chip on the top is just glaze deep and the one on the bottom is not bad. Considering the life these had it is a wonder they survived. Not sure how much it holds. Maybe 2 gals or less. The dark part on the bottom is just where the stoneware is darker. Normal flaws. Photos are a part of the description. Bid with confidence. For sale is this Cortland Jug with pour spot. It is approx 1.5 gallons. It measure 9.5 inches tall and 8.5 inches wide. It is in very good condition. I took pictures from all angles and they show the condition very well. The only things I see are on the side of the pour spout neck is a area of less glaze as pictured and on the base there are some very small areas of no glaze from the making. Antique 5 Gallon Brown Glazed Top Tennessee Stoneware Pottery Whisky Beehive Jug
This is a fantastic antique two-toned brown and natural glazed stoneware whisky jug from Tennessee that is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. It is beautiful all over with the rich. Even, shiny, brown glaze on the top and the even natural toned glaze on the bottom that is covered with natural crazing from age(shown in the last photo) giving it a charming vintage look. There is some light scuffing and scratching on the surface, but no other obvious damage. I haven't tried to fill it, but it is the same size as other 5 gallon jugs I have and it is definitely larger than a 3 gallon, so I believe it holds 5 gallons. It measures 11" W x 18" H and will be packed very well, double boxed, and insured during shipping.

Old Cobalt ? 3 Gallon Stoneware ? Beehive Salt Glaze ? Crock Jug
I know NOTHING about stoneware. In fact. I don't even know if it qualifies as stoneware, but here goes- 14 1/4 inches high with a 10 inch diameter bottom. There are no markings on the jug except the number 3(three) in blue and I assume that to be the volume of the jug- although the more I look at it, I'm thinking it could be the letter B. There is a definite crack in the finger handle and that is all there appears to be- doesn't look like it ever broke off- shows no sign of repair. It has been in our possession at least 40 years- it was purchased in Washington state(Spokane, if I remember correctly) but we have the place for sale and will be moving into a ground floor apartment with no outbuildings so it must go. Of particular interest is the brown"mottling" on the top and handle- we've never attempted to clean it ... moreso we have no idea if it will come off- original plug never been out. This jug weighs 4.2 pounds and measures 8" tall by 7 and 1/8" wide by 6" across at the very bottom. There is minor wear present with some small chips on the very bottom. I bought it first thing in the morning from a man who was selling at a flea market for the first time in southern Wisconsin. He was from Illinois. I bought several items from him and had to go back to my vehicle to get enough money to pay for everything. In the 10 minutes I was gone he had a lady who picked it up off the ground from my pile he was holding and she refused to set it down. She said it still had the price on it and therefore it was now hers. He said it was already sold and she called him"RUDE" among other things and stormed off. The jug was not priced cheap. But I really liked the look and the fact that it is so big. This made me feel that it was a wise investment that someone would get that upset over it.
