#2 STONEWARE FINGER JUG WITH LID
This jug is in very good condition with no chips. Cracks or fleabites. It has a couple of marks in the glaze. The handle does have a chip on the side. It would hold about 2-3 quarts. It measures about 6&1/2" high and 24" in circumference. It could be also be used as a cookie jar. The lid is in very good condition also. For your consideration is an estate find. It is a 1 QT. size Antique Stoneware Pottery Two tone Whisky Jug or Crock with a finger handle. It measures about 9" tall x 5 1/2" in diameter It has no cracks or chips on the spout or the handle. there are three small(very small) chips around the top flat edge. The rest of the jug looks to be near perfect. It does not have a cork. I am not sure of the age. But someone more versed in old crocks and jugs may be able to provide me with more information. Odd Old Glazed Jug with Finger Loop - Nice
Old Glazed Jug with a Finger Loop and Pinched Sides This item was very dirty and had several mud-dauber wasp nests built onto it when I got it. I scrubbed it thoroughly with a tough scrub brush and clean water. It was very difficult to get the wasp nests off and I can tell you that this jug is VERY solidly built. The handle is firm and the pinches along the sides give the piece strength. I do not find any markings on it. The inside and top are nicely glazed and the lower outside is a natural texture with a sandy feel to it. It is 8" tall and the bottom is 5" in diameter. It's a heavyweight at almost 3 pounds. I know little about these things. So the photos will have to be most of the description. Note that some of the photos were taken with a flash and some are natural light. Measures 11" high with a 7-1/8" diameter at the base. No major chips(in fact. I don't see any on the rim at all, where they usually occur-see photo and judge for yourself) No cracks or breaks. A few places near the bottom where the maker did not apply glaze, as is typical of older pieces. A few light brown streaks-see last photo. The jug has a few chips and imperfections typical of this type of stoneware. It has its own individuality. The brown part on top has an interesting pattern where the salt was thrown on for the glaze. This auction is featuring a Pair of Tu Tone colored ceramic or Stoneware made JUGS. One for Drink'in and one for Smell'in Good. The larger Drink'in JUG has a few flaws, both edges, top and bottom have some Beauty marks and the Cork is stuck in the Mouth of the Jug. There are no crack lines or any major damage to either of the 2 Jugs. The larger Drink'in Jug does not have a Maker's mark or any identifying symbols. The smaller Smell'in Good Jug was made by ALFRED B. McKELVY Company, New York NY at a 3.5 oz size. The front of the small Jug has an advertisement for SEAFORTH- Men's TALC. Little Brown Jug Stoneware Shoulder Jug with Finger-Handle Two-Tone Brown(Tan and Dark Brown) Marked USA T his listing is for a very folks stoneware jug marked with an incised USA mark. In a two-tone brown glaze. There is an applied neck and handle with room for one finger. The jug measures 6.75 inches high at the top of the handle, 1-1/8 inches wide across the neck, and 4.25 inches wide across the footring. The jug is in very good condition. There is a small indented spot on the front of the rim lip. But it is under the glaze and original to manufacture. There are also a couple of pinpoint-size glaze pops, also original to firing. There are no chips, cracks, or crazing. The only mark I can find is an incised. Underglaze mark for"USA. The"S" is a bit larger than the U and A, which sometimes indicates a piece made by Brush Pottery.
