The glazing on this crock is in beautiful condition, inside and out. The crock has no markings on it but I suspect it was made locally as S.E. Ohio was/is well known for its good clay soils for producing pottery, ceramics& glass. Within one half hour of where I live is where the homes of such companies as Roseville Pottery, Hull Pottery, Hall Pottery, Anchor-Hocking Glass, Hocking Glass, Fenton, McCoy Pottery, etc. were located. Glaze is nicely variegated- study photos to get the feel and look of this relatively heavy piece(for its size) Does not appear to be missing a lid- the way the opening was made, I do not believe this ever had a lid, at least not a ceramic one that would have been incorporated into the clay design when the piece was hand thrown. Looks like this crock could originate from the Catawba Valley Pottery, but just my opinion. Glaze& form reminds me a little bit of Pewabic Pottery pieces, but not iridescent. Not much wear given its age- glaze has rubbed off in a few small spots around the rim(see photo) but no serious chips or cracks. Bottom is unmarked. All sales are final- no returns. A Cobalt Decorated Stoneware Jug or Bottle. Now let me say, I am not a collector of Stoneware. I did however try to research this jug. I must have looked at Thousands of pieces of Stoneware, putting in every keyword I could think of for this type of slip or glaze, and could find nothing like it. I will welcome any idea's from a collector! I do not know it's exact age. It may be vintage, Antique, but it is not marked, like most modern pieces. It is quite beautiful. With it's speckled or mottled Brown with a slight Red Rust shading glaze or slip. I don't think it's Spongeware. There is no marking on the bottom of the bowl but a series of concentric rings impressed on the inside of the bottom may give a clue as to origin. Wonderful for display. This small vintage or antique dark brown glazed stoneware pitcher features a rough raised design all the way around and an extra-big handle. The pitcher stands about 3 1/4" high and is approx. 4 1/2" across from handle to spout. There is some wear on the glazing and a couple of minor chips but otherwise is in very good condition. It is marked with what looks like"75" on the bottom; could be referring to 1875. 1975(although I think it's older than that) or something else entirely. S/H includes insurance. VINTAGE WHISKEY GALLON STONEWARE CROCK BROWN GLAZED JUG WITH CORNCOB STOPPER
This is a great vintage find. It came from an"of a 89 year old woman. She said it was her fathers and mothers. The jug is in wonderful condition. There is only one small chip on it. It is on the side of the mouth(see picture 4) There has NOT been any repairs. There are no cracks on the jug. Just that one small chip. I measures 9 1/2" X 8" some surface scratches nothing dramatic. The one gallon jug is made of stoneware and with brown glazed also has the original corncob stopper. I have not tried to clean it. I always leave that to the new owner. This is a AS IS sale. The jug has some flea bites which get slightly bigger near the spout and base. Stands almost 10 inches tall and is about 5 1/4 inches diameter at base. Condition is difficult to describe with these pieces, as you expect some normal imperfections in the original glaze, and there may be a few original slips in the paint or pinpoint wear, but there are no notable chips, cracks, dings or repairs of any kind. One area around side/base join looks a bit jinxy, but this is obviously the original craftsmanship and not damage. There is one bit of a nick in the handle, but it is under the original paint and glaze. So it's original. There are plenty of photos from every angle, so check all of them out: This is a nice one here, with real character and collectible value- have at it! Antique 5 Gallon Brown Glazed Top Tennessee Stoneware Pottery Whisky Beehive Jug
This is a fantastic antique two-toned brown and natural glazed stoneware whisky jug from Tennessee that is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. It is beautiful all over with the rich. Even, shiny, brown glaze on the top and the even natural toned glaze on the bottom that is covered with natural crazing from age(shown in the last photo) giving it a charming vintage look. There is some light scuffing and scratching on the surface, but no other obvious damage. I haven't tried to fill it, but it is the same size as other 5 gallon jugs I have and it is definitely larger than a 3 gallon, so I believe it holds 5 gallons. It measures 11" W x 18" H and will be packed very well, double boxed, and insured during shipping.
