Antique Stoneware: ca.1870 NY Beehive Jug w/ Cobalt, AO WHITTEMORE, Havana
A commanding 3Gal. Beehive Jug bearing an impressed. Cobalt-washed stamp that reads: A.O. WHITTEMORE, HAVANA, NY. This is the mark of Albert Whittemore, who operated a stoneware manufactory in Havana Village, just west of Ithaca 1863-1893; the area is now known as Montour Falls. Whittemore Beehives are quite scarce, and this one is very impressive. The brushed Cobalt Floral Is flanked by a pair of freehand"3's" The capacity is also impressed on the shoulder, just above the cobalt decoration. This is an early Whittemore Jug that dates to around 1870. The overall condition is excellent. There are some tight hairlines near the lower right side(see close-up) one travels about 3/4 into the base. There are also some typical imperfections created during manufacture(stack marks, glaze skips and drips, etc) The applied strap handle and ... morespout are nearly flawless- there is one tiny nick on the inside rim. Please see photo set for complete details and further description. This is a fine, early example from Upstate NY that displays exceptionally in any Country or Primitive setting. Measures 10-3/4"W x 14"H overall and weighs roughly 12 lbs. This is a No Reserve Auction and a great opportunity to add to your Antique Stoneware collection. Antique Stoneware: Rare L. Kendall Ovoid Jug w/ Cobalt, Chelsea, MA, ca.1840, NR
An uncommon 2Gal. Ovoid Jug from Massachusetts. Ca.1840's. This bears The cobalt-washed stamp of Loammi Kendall, who started a small stoneware manufactory around 1836 in Chelsea, just north of Boston. His production numbers were relatively small and his name is rarely mentioned in discussions of early New England potters(L. Watkins, pp.45-46) This appears to be one of Kendall's earlier Ovoids. The form is not perfect, and the top indented- most likely bottom-stacked in the kiln. The upper and lower handle terminals are primitively brushed with vibrant Cobalt, and there is a wonderful hand-carved stopper that sits perfectly in the spout. This piece has typical manufacturing imperfections(clay scars, stack marks, inclusions, etc. but no post-production flaws! Please see photos for further description and details. A fine, early example ... morewith a primitive character that will not disappoint. This 2Gal. Ovoid weighs 8.2 lbs and measures approximately 9-1/2"W x 12-3/4"H overall. The wood stopper adds another 1-1/2" 7-Days with No Reserve! I ship professionally and promptly with tracking and full insurance included. Antique Stoneware: RARE Pawtucket, RI Merchant Jug, Ed Smith Whiskey, ca.1870
This 2Gal. RI Merchant Jug is a real eye-catcher! I have always assumed that Horseshoes should face upward for Luck. And questioned why Edward Smith, a successful 19thC. Pawtucket Liquor Distributer, would use such a logo on his products. I then realized that the Horseshoe quickly orients itself in the proper manner when its contents are poured! A brilliant design, to say the least. In addition to the stenciled Cobalt Advertising, this Jug is also clearly impressed on the shoulder: F.T. WRIGHT& SON, STONE WARE, TAUNTON, MASS. with the 2Gal. capacity mark just below. I would date this to around 1870, based on the stamp. The overall condition is outstanding, considering its intended use. There is a shallow flake on the base, and two nicks on the spout; otherwise Mint. This is an extremely well-made piece and quite heavy at nearly 11 lbs. ... moreit's empty, sorry) Please see photos for complete details and further description. Good luck, and be sure to check my other Auctions ending shortly. Thanks. Some brief information on Puzzle Jugs follows: The defining feature of a puzzle jug is its pierced neck. Which makes it impossible to pour or drink the contents. In fact, the jug is made with a hollow handle and a hollow ring around the neck, typically fitted with two or three spouts. The idea is that the contents can be sucked up through the handle and drunk from one of the spouts by covering the others with your fingers. However, this might be a little too obvious, so the potters typically included at least one additional small hole, usually up underneath the handle, which also had to be covered before drinking. England, possibly Staffordshire, ca 1800 This charming little jug is quite early. Dating to the late 18th to early 19th Century. The jug measures 3" high to the tip of the spout and has a circumference of 11" at the waist. The handle is applied and the mask spout has a man's face surrounded by a brown beard. The hand-painted floral band in purple and green against the blue slip band on the neck is particularly attractive. There are no maker's marks, and the jug could have been produced in Staffordshire or possibly Newcastle. I am currently offering ... morethe matched pair of plates in a separate listing. Condition The jug is in near mint condition: No chips. Cracks, hairlines, repairs or restoration. The brown edging has a little wear and there is a tiny kiln glaze pop near the handle. A kiln split is located in the interior at the base of the spout. These are mentioned for accuracy and I don't consider them flaws. Guaranteed authentic and offered at a reasonable price. Antique Providence Pub Market Company Stoneware Jug 1 Gallon, Ca. 1912, marked.
Measuring 11.5 inches tall by 7 inches wide this striking. Excellent-condition, stoneware 1-gallon jug is marked"Providence Pub Market Co. Providence R.I. Which after some research. The only information we could find was an inspection report for the Company back in 1912. They passed safety and fire inspections with flying colors back then. Nice earth-tone color marked with blue ink. a portion of the label was not stamped when the jug was made. it's not chipped off, scraped off, or worn off. it was never there. There is a small ding/flake toward the bottom of the jug, as I have noted in the pic, however it does not detract from a great display and is quite common in antique stoneware. If you're into antique stoneware jugs that are MARKED. This puppy is for you. look n' see. Pics speak for themselves!

Antique Silver Luster Pottery Cream Jug Ca 1820's-30's Georgian England
Antique Silver Luster Pottery Cream Jug Ca 1820's-30's Georgian England Attention: I ship ALL fragile things PRIORITY MAIL INSURED ONLY which I offer at cost. It is more expensive but worth it for your and my protection as EXPERIENCE has shown this to be the safest way to ship fragile items. The cost between Priority and Parcel Post under 5 pounds is insignificant. If over 10 pounds I generally ship UPS as safest way to go. Additionally I pack and wrap things very well to insure safe arrival. This is for an antique Silver luster pottery creamer ca 1820-1830. This old Georgian styled cream jug is modeled after silver tea services of the period and is sometimes referred to as"poor man's silver" This specimen is in particularly good condition with very little wear to the silver luster. It is 5 1/2" long and 3 3/4" ... morehigh. Thanks for looking and good luck! This ships USPS Priority shipping and includes FREE insurance. There ARE NO charges for packing and wrapping but are always just the USPS charges. If I miss the weight it comes out of MY pocket not yours. People STILL keep hitting me down in on the shipping in feedback which is a mystery to me as I OFTEN ship Priority which is a bit more expensive but on fragile items much more likely to arrive in one piece. THESE COSTS ARE FOR YOUR PROTECTION! Please understand that. This item may weigh out as much as 15 ounces less than the indicated weight BUT the USPS rounds UP the weight to the greatest pound over that additional ounce. This is true whether Priority or Parcel Post- this is NOT my doing. I spend a lot on bubble wrap and am glad to offer it for FREE but am at a loss as to why I am being consistently down rated on the cost of the postage and handling which I have NO control over. International buyers must pay with Pay Pal. Please note that all Internationally shipped packages will go out Priority International shipping with default insurance included with additional coverage over $66 available. This change is due to problems with int
