Gorgeous Antique Copper Lustre Jug/Pitcher, Grn Accent
Up for a 3 Day Auction is this Gorgeous Copper Lustre Jug. Copper Lustre was rediscovered in the very early 19th century from an ancient Persian Overglaze.although one source mentions Iraq. Josiah Wedgwood really perfected the work. This sort of earthenware had it's heyday from 1820 till 1850 particularly in the Staffordshire Potteries. Albert Longton also produced this ware in the 1870's. This Jug has no maker's marks. There are swerves and flourishes. On each side are a dancing couple depicted from an earlier time. The colors are a deep copper. With green accents. The inside is a cream color. The height of the pitcher is 7 inches at the spout and 8 inches at the top of the handle. The base is 4 and a half inches in diameter but for space displacement. The width would be more like 6 inches. There are two surface chips one on ... moreeach side of the rim. There is a minor hairline just up from one of the chips. Just up from that is a small area that may have had a sticker. I think that it needs some goo-be-gone but I'm out. This little gem measures 2" tall and is 5" in diameter. Excluding handle. Bottom has South Cliff Creigiau Wales, which denotes very early piece, since company was started by Jean Southcliff and subsequent pottery was marked just Creigiau Wales and even later pottery Creigiau Cardiff Wales. Creigiau Welsh Copper Lustre Jug
If you're a lover of Craigiau pottery you'll want this 4-1/4" copper lustre jug with its lovely blue lining. Lovingly cared for during its life it comes to you in pristine condition. Undamaged with no chips or nicks or defects. It reflects the light and brightens any space. It's about 30 years since the Creigiau pottery closed, following the deaths of the founders, Jean and Reg Southcliffes. They produced several styles but the most well known was probably their distinctive copper lustre ware which has become harder and harder to find. Staffordshire Copper Lustre Jug/Creamer 1800 - 1860
Up for a 5 Day Auction is this Gorgeous Copper Lustre Jug. Actually it is a creamer but that is what it would have been called during the time that it was made. Copperlustre was made predominately between 1800 and 1860. This piece is completely covered with the copper to about an inch and a half inside. These were usually over a good grade of earthenware and sometimes over porcelain. The height of the jug is about 4 and a quarter inches at it's highest.the handle. At it's widest it is just under 5 inches. The rim is slightly scalloped. The body is ribbed. There is a scrolling design underneath the spout and handle. There is a surface chip to the right of the handle just below the outside of the rim. Because it is a brick color underneath. Even when looking directly at it, it sort of blends in to some degree. I have photographed it ... morea couple of times. The inside cream area has a number of black specks. Flaws and all. PAIR ANTIQUE / VINTAGE COPPER LUSTRE PITCHER JUG -Hand painted -Allerton's
This is an antique/ vintage pair of jugs/pitchers with copper lustre finish and a hand painted band design on each one. The one with the design at the top is marked Allerton's Longton. England on the bottom. The other is unmarked. The Allerton one is in good condition except for a few manufacturing flaws. The other has a chip on the bottom but does not detract from its uniqueness. Size is approx 3 1/2" tall and 2 1/4" across bottom. Nice pair to add to a copper lustre collection. If you have questions please ask before bidding- Refunds cost everyone money.
