Wow. This rustic jug is 118 years old! So sad about the crack(see photo) 9.25" tall 7.5" wide 5 pounds At least the chips on the bottom barely show. See the two photos where the jug is on white paper to show how the chips look when the jug is upright. There are various flea bites(I think they're called) But not too many. 1800s Redware Jug - Dark Albany Slip Glaze - Incised Flower Decoration + Bonus
This auction is for a redware jug that dates to the 1800s. The jug is approx. 8 1/2" tall and has a flower. Possibly a magnolia, incised into the jug. The Albany slip glaze is dark brown and the first photo which was taken without the flash show a better representation of the true color. The other photos were taken with the flash and show the damage areas and imperfections better. There are several chips in the spout area, an old repair to cracks in the applied handle and numerous imperfections. All in all the jug, which was made to be used in it's day, is in fair condition and still displays nicely. Also included as a bonus is a smaller redware jug which dates to the 1800s and has the same dark brown glaze. The jug measures 4 1/2" tall and has a large chip to the spout. Several hairline cracks, but no damage that I could see ... moreto the applied handle. The little jug with it's imperfections is still very solid and makes a great companion piece to the larger jug. Offered is a beautiful old top-heavy jug made of sturdy stoneware. It has a chocolate brown finish that I believe to be Albany Slip glaze. And comes with a cork which I have not removed due to its brittleness…I will leave that to the buyer. The jug is 8” tall, with a base diameter of 5 ½” and an upper half diameter of 6” I’m sorry that I cannot tell you the volume it holds, but my guess is about ½ to ¾ gallon. Although that is a size you don’t often run across. It is not marked by the maker that I can see. It is in excellent condition, especially since it is over 100 years old, with no chips or cracks. Pre 1900 Hand Turned Albany Slip Jug With Spout
Beautiful antique Albany Slip jug originally made for Molasses. The jug is marked with a capital"A. The"single letter marks on jugs and crocks(especially Albany slip items) were to identify the merchant where they originated from and were intended to be returned to. If you went to the store for a gallon of vinegar and didn't bring your own container. The storekeeper would loan you one. Most small towns might only have one or two stores and a simple capital letter would suffice to prove ownership. The hand turned Albany slip jugs generally date back to pre 1900. It is a hand turned piece and the shape is a little different than usual. You can see the turning marks in the piece. It is also unusual to see spouts on these pieces. The jugs usually have a rounded top. Some small cracks/imperfections as pictured. Keep in mind the age ... moreof this piece. It was used by my great grandfather and I am 84 years old. This early antique jug is an unusual shape and size. Its bottom is smaller than its middle much like the early ovoid stoneware. Just a bit smaller than your typical small jug. Measures approx 4 3/4" across and 5 1/2" tall. A couple of small chips on bottom lip expose a dark grey clay clay and glaze match so closely they are difficult to notice. This jug is in excellent shape with only one possible blemish near the spout(shown) The jug measures approximately 9 1/2n tall by 9in wide and a 3 1/8in mouth. This is one of the nicer jugs of this nature that I've seen. It has no maker's marks but my research suggests that it's from the late 1800s to early 1900s. And is 5" in diameter across the base and approximately 7" in the middle. This is a very early piece of stoneware and I would guess it to be from the 1850's to the 1880's- but please look carefully and do your own dating. EXCELLENT~ 1800's Albany Slip Glaze Stoneware Molasses Jug
This is an excellent early 1 gallon jug. Preserved in near original condition. It features a rich, deep brown Albany slip glaze and is completely free of chips, cracks, and repairs. The glaze is worn away on one side of the spout as well as a tiny bare spot on the handle. Near the bottom there are a couple of spots missing glaze and it appears these are resulting from the makers fingerprints! It appears that tbe original cork is still firmly in place, so I will let the buyer remove it and determine what it was they were sippin years ago. ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE BROWN GLAZE (ALBANY SLIP?) ONE GALLON JUG NR
This auction is for an antique primitive jug with a brown glaze that I would call'Albany slip. There are a few shallow chips around the outside of the mouth. And there is a tiny glaze chip on one side. There is a skinny half inch indentation on the wall on one side that must be from manufacture. There is wear from use and age, especially to the base. No cracks or crazing. It appears to hold a gallon. The jug stands 9 3/4 inches tall, and the base diameter is 5 3/4 inches. I use First Class Mail. Parcel Select Mail, Standard or Media Mail to save on shipping whenever possible, and I combine items for shipment to save on shipping costs when possible. All items are professionally packed with proper materials and sturdy boxes. This item will ship cheapest by Standard Mail.
