Antique Cobalt Blue Decorated Stoneware Jug; Old Salt Glaze 19th Century Pottery
Up for bids we offer a beautiful. 19th Century, 2 gallon, stoneware jug in exceptional condition. Right out of an estate, this salt glazed piece has a folksy, cobalt blue floral decoration on the front as well as an underscored number"2" above it. It was found in the western New York region and isn't signed by the pottery that produced it but there's a good chance it is a Lyons- Fisher or Burger jug. It has a gorgeous, dark, and earthy coloring along with that speckled, salt glazed surface. This piece is very well preserved and has only one small pitted type flaw near the handle. There are no other chips, not even around the spout or the bottom edge. The handle hasn't been broken and there aren't any cracks or hairlines anywhere on the piece. As a little bonus, we'll include the very nice, hand-carved wooden ... morestopper it was found with. The jug measures about 13 1/2 inches high with a bottom diameter of 8 1/4 inches while the very top measures 2 1/4 inches across. As far as condition goes, this is the nicest piece of decorated stoneware we have ever found. It would make a super addition to any collection and also a top notch example to start one off! Little Speckled Brown Salt Glazed Stoneware Jug w/ Cobalt Blue Flowers on both sides What a Wonderful addition to your collection! This is an Pennsylvania Estate Find. A Cobalt Decorated Stoneware Jug or Bottle. Now let me say, I am not a collector of Stoneware. I did however try to research this jug. I must have looked at Thousands of pieces of Stoneware, putting in every keyword I could think of for this type of slip or glaze, and could find nothing like it. I will welcome any idea's from a collector! I do not know it's exact age. It may be vintage, Antique, but it is not marked, like most modern pieces. It is quite beautiful. With it's speckled or mottled Brown with a slight Red Rust shading glaze or slip. I don't think it's Spongeware. And with the lighter clay base is seen dotted in background, those surface dots ... moreare indented. Giving it a slightly rough surface. The brown glaze is glossy. But the Cobalt Blue floral decoration, shading slightly to a lighter Sky Blue on edges, is very high gloss. Heavy. Weighs ~2.5 pounds! Lyons Whiskey Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Snake and three XXX in Black The jug is either 1 or 2 gallons. It is 13 ½ inches tall 24 inches at widest point and 18 inches at least wide area. It has a cobalt snake with Lyons above in cobalt blue. The back has three large XXX in black that I just found out was added later. And can be removed. Up for auction is a 1850's Edmands& Co. 2 gallon cobalt blue decorated speckled bird on branch stoneware jug. This image is of a lovely speckled bird perched on a branch. The specks on the bird and the leaves are heavily raised dots of cobalt blue. There are some large cracks to the body(as shown in photos) Also a chip on the handle and a couple of small chips to the bottom of this jug. Primitive Antique Stoneware Jug Old estate find. This is a nice Primitive Antique Stoneware Jug with large script blue cobalt decoration. applied handle and early glaze. The cobalt writing says"J. N. Kuh& Co, Newark N. J. From what I can find out, these jugs were made by the Fulper Pottery of Flemington, NJ, for the companies whose names are written on the jugs. The script writing is quite dramatic and has a great look. The jug is in very good condition with some chips on the outside of the top rim and one shallow chip on the side of the handle- no cracks. Here is a large 4-gallon antique stoneware jug crock made in Keene. New Hampshire. I can't quite make out the top line, looks a lot like J. S. Taft, xxxx-xx- N.Y. but not sure. It has an elaborate cobalt blue decoration with vines, flower and leaves, tendrils etc. This jug is about 19" tall and approx. 10-3/4" across the diameter at the base and about 34-35 inches in circumference at the widest part of the jug. The top and side(of the spout) have very old chips. There is an"in-the-making" defect in the front that you can view with the e-bay magnifier. I really don't deal with jugs a whole lot. But this one really caught my eye. It really has that beehive shape to it. Especially since the bottom narrows down just like the top does. Most times it is just the top. There are two things that I will mention about it and you can decide for yourself with the pictures. Towards the bottom below the handle is a small dime sized piece that is chipped off a little. It does not go through and is just on the surface. But is there just the same and needs to be mentioned. The other one is on the handle where the thumb is placed. It is a different color than the rest. I am not sure if this was made like this to give the thumb a not so smooth surface for gripping possibly. It looks to have been made like this from the factory because the color closest to the spout bleeds over onto the lighter colored part. Regardless. Unique old jug. I was told that this if from mid to late 19th c. however I dont know. Nice dark color. Measures about 14.5"15" tall and about 9" across the bottom. There are some chips in the mouth. A minor crack, presumably from manufacturing on the base, and a minor ding with little cracks on a spot on the side, all detailed in the pictures. ANTIQUE 2 GAL. OVOID STONEWARE JUG-COBALT BLUE ACCENTS-MARKED “GOODWIN WEBSTER”
This is a lovely Antique 2 Gallon“Ovoid” Stoneware Jug featuring Cobalt Blue Accents around the Handle and Neck. The jug is clearly marked in front by the maker“GOODWIN WEBSTER” Horace Goodwin and Mack Webster operated the pottery in Hartford. Connecticut from 1831-1840. The ovoid jug is beautifully shaped standing 13” high and measuring 9” across its bulbous center from which it tapers upward to its 1-3/4” diameter neck and downward to 5” across its base. The jug has a period stoneware Gray/Tan color and features a wonderful Saltmarsh Glaze. The short somewhat off kilter neck has 2 decorative incised rings and the handle is similarly decorated its entire length with 3 incised lines, the deepest of which is at the center with a lesser one on either side. There is 1 tight hairline near the bottom and 2 old small chips along the edge of the ... morebase which can’t be seen when placed upright. The handle is noticeably chipped to one side of the incised decoration from long ago adding further to the character of the ovoid. There is no staining or discoloration. The jug has a 1/2” drilled hole near the base and must have been used as a lamp at one time and could again if desired. This is truly a lovely Antique 2 Gallon“Ovoid” Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Blue Accents marked“GOODWIN WEBSTER” which makes a striking display.

Please keep in mind this jug is antique and handmade. Has a very small chip out of the top of the handle but other than that it is in pristine condition with all the normal manufacturer/glazing defects. It's an old jug and I was told it was made approx. between 1850 to 1899. It is NOT a reproduction. It does have a makers mark just below the neck of the jug but I cannot read it. To describe it I would say it is a blue dot mark with yellowish writing around the mark. It measures about 11 inches tall. Any questions please ask and I will answer as quickly as possible.

Hawthorn was the site of the Hawthorn Pottery Company- one of the leading small industries of the Redbank Valley. Hawthorn Pottery got its start in 1894 when W.T. Putney and E.A. Hamilton purchased the land, buildings, and pottery-making equipment from George Alabaster. Alabaster was a well-known potter from nearby New Bethlehem, but little is recorded about his operations in Hawthorn. At the time, Hawthorn was known as West Milville. The pottery relied on local materials- using"potters clay" from the Red Bank Creek and paying 20 cents per(long) ton- 2.240 pounds. Antique Salt Glazed Cobalt Blue Incised Stoneware Pitcher Jug Rustic/Primitive
Beautiful very large salt glazed. Hand made Stoneware Pitcher/Jug with cobalt blue incised decorations on grey back round. I bought this pitcher in Germany but I believe it was made in Betschdorf, Alsace Region of France(German before WWII) but I am not expert. Maybe made in the Westerwald Region of Germany. Pitcher is very old and show some signs of age and usage but with no cracks. Fractures, repairs or ships that I can detect. Antique advertising Stoneware 3 Gallon Jug Cobalt Blue Albany NY
Offered for auction is this antique stoneware jug. This three gallon stoneware jug has cobalt hand writing that says"P J Wallace 100 Madison Ave Albany NY. There is an incised"3" near the top of the jug. The jug is approx. 13.5"h has an applied handle. It has a significant OLD chip on the pouring spout.See pictures.there is also a flaw in the glaze on the"Y" of NY.Also see pictures. In good condition other than that. NO repairs to this old jug.
