Antique Pennsylvania Salt Glaze 2 Gal. Single Handled Jug Beautiful Colors!!
There is no reserve on this great-looking antique salt glazed jug. Up for auction is a two gallon salt glazed jug from southwestern Pennsylvania. It is late 19 th C. with a single handle. The coloring is pretty spectacular with shading ranging from oranges to browns. There is also one flat side to this jug as if it were fired lying partially on its side. On one side is a painted ribbon mark. But it was not fired into the clay like the cobalt marks that we usually see. There is an incised mark around the neck of the jar as if the entire mouth and handle were applied at the same time before firing. There are no cracks or chips. Unique old jug. I was told that this if from mid to late 19th c. however I dont know. Nice dark color. Measures about 14.5"15" tall and about 9" across the bottom. There are some chips in the mouth. A minor crack, presumably from manufacturing on the base, and a minor ding with little cracks on a spot on the side, all detailed in the pictures. Vintage Or Antique 8" Glazed Stoneware Jug With Round Top-Grayish-Beige-1/2 Gal?
Offered is this vintage or antique glazed stoneware jug with a round top. I describe the color as a sort of grayish-beige. But the color varies a bit on different parts of the jug. It stands about 8" high and is approx. 5 1/2" across on the bottom. It has a cork in so I could not measure the capacity without removing and probably damaging the cork. But I would guess 1/2 gallon or maybe 2 1/2 or 3 quarts? The jug is in very good condition. I see no cracks. But there are a couple of chips at the top on the"neck" see last photo) a thin shallow line across the top that is not a crack but what looks like a mark made when it was manufactured and a small blob of white paint that may be able to be removed with careful attention As you might expect. ANTIQUE 2 GAL. OVOID STONEWARE JUG-COBALT BLUE ACCENTS-MARKED “GOODWIN WEBSTER”
This is a lovely Antique 2 Gallon“Ovoid” Stoneware Jug featuring Cobalt Blue Accents around the Handle and Neck. The jug is clearly marked in front by the maker“GOODWIN WEBSTER” Horace Goodwin and Mack Webster operated the pottery in Hartford. Connecticut from 1831-1840. The ovoid jug is beautifully shaped standing 13” high and measuring 9” across its bulbous center from which it tapers upward to its 1-3/4” diameter neck and downward to 5” across its base. The jug has a period stoneware Gray/Tan color and features a wonderful Saltmarsh Glaze. The short somewhat off kilter neck has 2 decorative incised rings and the handle is similarly decorated its entire length with 3 incised lines, the deepest of which is at the center with a lesser one on either side. There is 1 tight hairline near the bottom and 2 old small chips along the edge of the ... morebase which can’t be seen when placed upright. The handle is noticeably chipped to one side of the incised decoration from long ago adding further to the character of the ovoid. There is no staining or discoloration. The jug has a 1/2” drilled hole near the base and must have been used as a lamp at one time and could again if desired. This is truly a lovely Antique 2 Gallon“Ovoid” Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Blue Accents marked“GOODWIN WEBSTER” which makes a striking display.

Well here is a nice 1/2 gal jug from Memphis Tenn. As you can see someone had made a lamp out the jug at some point. It has a old shallow flake of the top of the lip that is had to see. Other then the hole in the bottom the jug is in nice shape. No cracks or repairs or touch ups. Clean printing of the label and the handle in nice. Someone has written on the bottom of the jug where it was found. It reads( Found during early 1950's under the Fayette County Court house by C.W. The front is stamped WINE and underneath that are a series of incised fish an some sort of plant alternating all the way around. Years ago I saw a crock with this incised decoration but it had no markings other than that(and was crazy expensive) This jug has a great somewhat ovoid shape. The WINE stamp stands out even better in person. There is some sort of stone ping to the lower left of the word WINE that did lead to a hairline crack ... moredrifting across the front. It does not get any closer than 1 inch to the cobalt band with the fish and WINE stamp. Everything is pictured. It is truly a fantastic piece of stoneware! This vintage 2 Gal Moonshine jug is in excellent condition for it age. It's exact age is unknown. But believed to be manufactured around the turn of the century. It is 9 inches in diameter and 13 inches tall. It has some old small chips in the top rim. Most importantly, there's no cracks.
