You are bidding on a vtg/antique Glen Garry Old Highland Whiskey stoneware jug produced by Port Dundas Pottery(Glasgow. Scotland) somewheres between 1878 and when the factory closed in 1930. From the makers mark we are fairly certain this piece dates to about 1901-1919. Around 1920-1930 Port Dundas Pottery begain marking their stoneware with just the words"Made in Scotland" pic 12) Although Port Dundas was in business since 1828, it wasn't until 1878 when they were the first to introduce transfer printing, onto stoneware and advertised they could stamp bottles in color(In this case black) This would have been with a hand held rubber stamp, taken from an etched copper plate. This stoneware jug is in exceptional condition for its age. No chips. Cracks, or repairs. The original cork is missing. The black transfer graphics are still ... morevery clear and crisp. There is a bit of black transfer ink on the neck of the jug. This was common as we mentioned they were hand stamped and obviously the worker who stamped the bottle had transfer ink on his hand. Mitchell's Old Irish Whisky Whiskey Jug Midland Pottery Liverpool Melling
This turn of the century jug is quite hefty with black or deep navy blue graphics over a cream/ off-white background with an applied handle highlighted in tan along with the neck. There are no cracks or chips. This item is in good- very good"as found" condition considering the age and use with minimal if any crazing. It appears at one time someone may have used this jug as a candle holder as there is a bit of residual wax to the inner neck area. Any flaws in paint or glaze should be considered a manufacturing flaw and not damage. I have provided some additional photos showing some of the detail. The base has typical shelf wear and has the impressed seal of"Midland Pottery" Melling" Liverpool" shown in photos#7& 8. Note that the"yellowing" in some of the photos is poor lighting. This turn of the century Mitchell Bros. Ltd. jug is quite hefty with black graphics over a cream/ off-white background with 2 applied handles in tan. There are no cracks but a chip under glaze shown in photo#9 which should be considered a pottery flaw. This item is in good"as found" condition considering the age and use with minimal if any crazing. Any flaws in paint or glaze should be considered a manufacturing flaw and not damage. Vintage 12" Whisky Crock Shoulder Jug Western Pottery Co With Cork And Strap!
This is from my uncles estate items. Great old crock I am selling just as it is as I am not sure if the the old strap was how it was carried or not. We are originally from West Virginia so imagine from the stories I have been told that this crock carried its share of moonshine LOL. It measures about 9" tall x 5 1/2" in diameter It has no cracks or chips on the spout or the handle. there are three small(very small) chips around the top flat edge. Early, 5 Gal Stoneware Jug, marked with the logo of the US Standard Pottery Company, East Liverpool Ohio This lovely jug comes from an Estate Auction in Southern Florida. It took me quite a while to identify this jug. Many jugs are described as being rare. This one is. It was made by the US Standard Pottery Company in East Liverpool. Ohio. The company is listed as manufacturing ceramics from 1886-1927. There were earlier pottery manufacturers in this area with the name of Standard. But information is scarce. The eagle logo is correct for US Standard. During the years that US Standard was producing a wide range of products. The East Liverpool, Ohio area was know as"The Pottery Capital of the World" The area had high quality clay and a ... morecommunity of skilled ceramic artisans. I would suggest that the current very good condition of this 5 gallon jug testifies to the high quality of manufacturing. The jug is 19.75" tall and 11.5" in diameter. The height from the base to the shoulder is 13' From the photos you can see the expected imperfections from its original firing. Age discoloration on the shoulder and a few areas where small chips of glaze have been lost. There are no cracks or other issues that I am aware of. It's a lovely pieice of stoneware. The light colored glaze is amazingly beautiful for its age. The shape is delightful and overall, its just a charming piece of antiquity. And, it's at a good price.

Antique 5 Gallon Brown Glazed Top Tennessee Stoneware Pottery Whisky Beehive Jug
This is a fantastic antique two-toned brown and natural glazed stoneware whisky jug from Tennessee that is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. It is beautiful all over with the rich. Even, shiny, brown glaze on the top and the even natural toned glaze on the bottom that is covered with natural crazing from age(shown in the last photo) giving it a charming vintage look. There is some light scuffing and scratching on the surface, but no other obvious damage. I haven't tried to fill it, but it is the same size as other 5 gallon jugs I have and it is definitely larger than a 3 gallon, so I believe it holds 5 gallons. It measures 11" W x 18" H and will be packed very well, double boxed, and insured during shipping.
