Lettering all still strong and easily read. Glaze is good over entire piece. Piece is approx. 7" in diam. and 10" tall, base is 1" tall at rim and 12" in diam. weights approx. 9 LBS. This jug was wrapped up in the bottom of an old box with old seashells, oceanic pottery pieces and some New Guinea Made items like part of a mask(all sold) I think it is terracotta? Hubby thinks it was found in the ocean with the other items but I think it could be an aquarium decoration? I think It's too small to have a useful primitive item? I guess it could have been used for medicine, powder, face paint, sap or something? I believe it is hollow but the inside is plugged by something. It measures approx. 6.5"high. 5"Widest, bottom base is 3 1/4, spout is off center and sticks out 2 1/4" Curly handle is 3 3/8" long. There are no makers marks. No cracks. Antique Whiskey / Moonshine JUG /Stoneware - Pottery- Crock/ Rustic - Primative
This is a very old stoneware/ pottery type jug. Likely used to hold whiskey, maybe moonshine! or water. It is 11 inches tall by 4 inches wide- I believe it is a 1 gallon capacity. The jug is a nice off white color and is all the same color which is somewhat uncommon. The neck and opening are nice and smooth. The cork is long gone sadly. There are a few chips on the bottom(not noticeable unless you flip it over) and a few rough spots and nicks along the extended lip of the body, but nothing deterring to the aesthetics of the jug. The bottom of the jug is not smooth like the rest of the jug, there are some slight ripples in the glaze and uneven coloration. The camera's flash bounced off of the surface and it may appear as though there is a crack in the bottom, however there are NO cracks in this jug. This is a really primitive piece and ... morewill look great in your rustic decor. Since it is all one color- and not two toned like so many jugs, it will be a great piece to add to a collection. Primative-antique vase- jug14"H. applied leather bronze? Copper? Pottery
This piece stands 14" tall. At its widest point. It measures 10"across. It is extremely heavy.close to 18 lbs packaged. This is really a mystery to me. The auctioneer says it's Italian pottery. Looking at it closely.as shown in photos, it appears to be a metal under the the finish that looks like pottery. It looks like bronze or copper.could be brass. The uneven shape reminds me of pottery. It could be that way so it will look like pottery. The leather is applied nicely with most edges being tight against the vase or jug. I am not sure of its purpose. It could be a large water jug. It probably holds close to 2 gallon. It could also be a vase.
