Early 1900's R.H. Macy's & Co New York Brown/ White Stoneware Jug
For sale is a circa early 1900's R.H. MACY'S NEW YORK stoneware jug. The Jug is Brown on the top and White on the bottom. It measures approximately 101/2" in height and 7" in width. The pottery has a glaze finish. There are two small chips at the top portion of the jug opening as well as a small glaze line in the same area. there is also a 2/1/2" brown line which I cannot identify in the white part of the jug. Antique Stoneware Jug 2 New York Stoneware Co Fort Edward N.Y. 1861-1891
Up for your consideration is this beautiful Stoneware Crock Jug made by New York Stoneware Co Fort Edwards N.Y. New York Stoneware operated in Fort Edwards from 1861-1891 as seen on the front of the jug stamped. This is a good way to date NY Stoneware. If it is stamped Ft Edwards you can figure out it is a great 19th century piece. This jug is a 2 gallon and has the amazing Cobalt Blue Bird so beautifully displayed on the front that has not one piece of imperfections. There are some rub marks on the right hand side of the crock from being stored up against another. But there are NO CRACKS no HAIRLINES to speak of. It has never been broken or repaired. This is the REAL DEAL and i do not have a reserve on this crock. This crock in a regular public auctions setting would start out at around 400$ but not today.I am passing my savings along to ... moreyou. Mass Advertising Jug and a John Remenecz, Witherbee, New York Advertising Jug. In very good condition does have light age appropriate wear including a chip to one rim but still displays very nicely. This is an example of the beautiful salt glazed crocks, jugs and churns that were commonly used for food storage in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Salt glaze was a name derived from the fact that when the salt was thrown into the kiln and it melted at the very high temperatures a glassy, glazed finish was created. HERE'S a fine authentic genuine 19th c salt glazed Stoneware Jug recently acquired at a high end sale in Westchester New York. It was sold to us at circa 19th century. This is a nice example of primitive stoneware. The Jug is stamped in blue with a block style"M" and"1 1/2" in a crest. The 1 1/2 refers to the size of 1 1/2 quarts. As the pictures show it is in nice condition with some glaze loss at the very top of the jug. There are no hairlines or repairs. Just an honest old piece that has lasted time. It weighs 8 pounds. Very rare 1/2 gallon stoneware shoulder jug from the short-lived merger(1 year only 1906-07) of the Hugh O'Neill Dry Goods Store and the Adams Dry Goods Store located at 655 and 675 6th Ave. NYC. Located at 655-671 Sixth Avenue between West 20th and 21st Streets in the Flatiron District neighborhood ofManhattan, New York City. The building was originally Hugh O'Neill's Dry Goods Store, and was designed by Mortimer C. Merritt in the neo-Greco style. It was built to four stories in two stages ... morebetween 1887 and 1890, to allow the existing O'Neill store to continue operating during construction, with the addition of a fifth floor in 1895, created by raising the pediment. The gilded corner domes of this cast-iron-fronted building were restored c.2000. On the death of Hugh O'Neill in 1902, his heirs were unable to continue running the business, which was sold and merged in 1907 with the Adams Dry Goods Store immediately to the north at 675 Sixth Avenue. The combined business did not succeed and, like all the department stores in the Ladies' Mile, was gone by the advent of World War I. The building was converted to manufacturing lofts, and, c.1969, was again converted into offices. As of 2014, the building is owned by ElAd Properties, and was converted into condominiums in 2005. In great antique condition with 2 minor chips on the shoulder rim which only adds to it's charm. There are a few bits of extra stoneware blobs. No cracks noted. Please view all photos. Fort Howard New York" I believe the cobalt design is an abstract flowers. The jug is in good condition. But there are some flaws. First, this was at one time converted to use as a lamp and I removed a rubber and metal contraption that was used to hold the socket. You can see there is still some red on the inside of the spout from the rubber substance. What is left is just color, there is ... moreno dimension to it. It will take more cleaning to get rid of it completely. You can also see in the pictures that there are a few nicks around the spout. There are imperfections in the glaze with spots and little holes, perhaps from using salt in the manufacturing process. There is one green glaze drip to the right of the letters and below that, a spider hairline that could be a manufacturing flaw or the result of a bump. In another picture, I point out a line that looks like a manufacturing flaw to me. Halfway down one side there are two flaws that occurred during production when something touched the jug. In the top area, some clay pulled away. In the bottom spot, a piece of clay from the other piece was left. Finally, there is a chip and a couple of tiny nicks along the bottom rim. more After listing all these flaws(please review and enlarge all the pictures) this jug still displays beautifully! Please note that there is more beige color in the back than the front. There is no size marking on the jug, but I would guess it to be about one and a half gallons. Offered is this antique stoneware bottle with pouring spout. The bottle has a beautiful reddish-brown glaze. Somewhat variegated in color. It is stamped by the manufacturer. Denby Pottery of England and is also stamped"T. Davids Co New York" The Thaddeus Davids Co. was a big New York ink retailer in the mid to late 1800s. I believe. But am not certain, that this is one of their ink bottles, made for them by Denby. The bottle stands approx. 9 1/4" high and is about 3 1/2" in diameter at the base. It is in very good to excellent condition. With no chips or cracks. There are some bumps. Dips, rough places, etc. on the bottle surface, under the glazing, obviously present at the time of manufacture. I think this is a fairly uncommon bottle. Here is a nice old 5 gallon whiskey jug from a North Carolina estate. It is from the turn of the century from what I can find online about the company. The owner seemed to be sued a lot for not fulfilling orders and promises. I've been able to connect him to the beginning of Canadian Club and a few other huge whisky names. The crock is in decent shape for being over a hundred years old. It has a few notable chips and it has crazing throughout. There is a mark on the back that I can't tell if it's a scratch or crack. Antique Cobalt Blue Floral Decorated West Troy New York Pottery 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug. This piece dates from the mid 1800's. This piece measure 14 1/2" high and it is 8" in diameter at the base. This piece is marked"West Troy. NY Pottery 2" The condition of this piece is fair. There is some staining and there is a hole in the pottery near the base of the handle. I expect that there may have been an air bubble in the clay and it burst at some point in time. There is a bit of kiln burn to the cobalt flower as well. There is no other damage. Antique Clark& Fox Athens New York Stoneware Ovoid Jug With Blue Decoration. This is a nice early Ovoid jug. It has cobalt blue decoration under the name on the front side and around the base of the handle on the back side. This jug measures 14" high. The condition is very good. There is one very small blemish on the side just to the one side of the base of the handle. There are some white paint specks from a paint roller and these come off easily. There also is some staining from age. There are no chips and no cracks or restoration. Nice early ovoid jug. I will combine items when possible to save shipping costs. Antique Decorated New York Stoneware Jug Dated 1868 With Cobalt Wreath
Wonderful 3 gallon stoneware jug cobalt decorated with the date"1868" surrounded by a wreath. It is signed New York Stoneware Company and a"3" The condition issues consist of a small shallow chip on the spout. Minor staining throughout and flaking, pitting of the glazing on most of the jug. Still in all, a stunning jug with a hard to find date still quite bright in cobalt surrounded by a wreath. There are no hairlines or cracks and it is 16" tall. New York Stoneware Co 12"x7" Stoneware Jug - Great Cond&Markings
I have been trying to get to some good auctions the last couple of weeks here in history rich southern New England to freshen up the shop inventory for your shopping pleasure. This is a very nice piece of Stoneware and I want to say it is 1 1/2 gal for it sure looks bigger than 1 gallon. It is all nicely marked from Fort Edwards NY and the blue is nice and vibrant. Anyway I scored six nice stoneware pcs and will get them all in the shop and they are all from one gentleman's collection and I only wish knew more about stoneware and had more $$$ with me the other day because this as one great collection. It measures the mentioned 12" tall x about 7" wide and is in perfect collectable condition. I tried to picture it well to both show it off. Do most of the talking to hopefully answer some questions.
