But slightly oblong in shape and the clay is slightly lumpy) 19th century 3 gallon salt ... moreglazed crock with bold cobalt leaf designs. It is sturdy, solid, and has a molded handle both sides. Due to age, the color of the clay has a slightly patchy appearance from discoloration. One of the handles has a few small flakes, but there are no other chips on the crock. There are three short cracks on the top edge that don't go all the way through the clay and look like they might be splits from firing. One very fine unnoticeable hairline on the top edge is slightly visible inside and out and is probably a true hairline from damage, but it is very difficult to see. All cracks are shown in the photos. There are two yellow streaks in the glaze on the front, also shown in the photos. They are part of the glaze and happened during manufacture. The crock measures 11" in diameter x 10 3/4" H. It will be packed securely in a double box and insured during shipping.

Early J. Fisher Lyons NY Jug 2 Gallon Cobalt Script Design Stoneware Antique
This 2 gallon jug came from an auction in Vermont. It has the cobalt script design with the number 2 and the imprint J. Fisher Lyons. NY. This is the mark of Jacob Fisher who ran the pottery in Lyons, N.Y. from 1872 through 1902. The jug measures 13 1/2" high and 9" in diameter at the base. It is in good condition for it's age, no cracks. There are two chips on the spout, see the 7th and 8th pictures. There is some wear, use and surface marks. The base has a surface chip/rub spot, see the 11th picture. The jug is a tan color.

1850's Edmands & Co. 2 Gallon Decorated Cobalt Blue Speckled Bird Stoneware Jug
Up for auction is a 1850's Edmands& Co. 2 gallon cobalt blue decorated speckled bird on branch stoneware jug. This image is of a lovely speckled bird perched on a branch. The specks on the bird and the leaves are heavily raised dots of cobalt blue. There are some large cracks to the body(as shown in photos) Also a chip on the handle and a couple of small chips to the bottom of this jug. However, this does not take away from this rare image, still in such great condition. Edmands& Co. was in Charlestown, Mass. Edward and Thomas Edmands ran the pottery company from 1852- 1868. This is a beautiful large 1800s jug. With no chips, cracks, flaws or discoloration whatsoever. There are no maker's or other marks outside the"2" Size is about 14" tall and 8" wide at the base. Here isha a very nice old RARE& HARD TO FIND example of a WHEELING WEST VIRGINIA MERCHANTS COBALT DECORATED JUG.The"W" is missing but it has been determined that it dates too late to be a VIRGINIA JUG; The jug measures 2 gallons with five blue lateral lines that accent the script. M REILLY- 1309&1311 MAIN STREET- WHEELING VA The jug is tall measuring 14 inches in height with a boulbous almost ovoid shape. TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THE PHOTOS. There are spider hairlines. Mostly to the left of the script. There is a neat tobacco spit mark about 4 inches from the top as well. The bottom also has hairlines. I think they are all freeze lines It is solid, in that it is all together but it does not have a good ring like it should have. These problems do not, in my opinion, overshadow the fact that it is RARE AS CAN BE. Where are you ... moregoing to find one? Buyer pays $20 domestic shipping and handling. Up for auction is an antique two gallon stoneware jug that has an ovoid shape with a cobalt blue decoration and an impressed maker's mark for Samuel W. Hurd of Peekskill. New York. It is 11 3/4" tall and the base diameter is 7 3/4" It has an attached handle. There is a cobalt blue decoration on the front of the jug and the handle is accented with the blue cobalt. It has an impressed"2" along with"SAMUEL W. HURD MANUFACTURER PEEKSKILL" There is an incised encircling line at the neck. The cork is on the inside of the jug. The condition is good with the exception of several very small nicks or chips at the mouth of the jug, and one 3/4" long chip plus multiple small chips at the base. We believe this crock is from PA or NY as it came through a family that migrated from north central PA. It measures 8 ¾” in diameter. It stands 12” tall. It is in pretty good shape though there is a crack that runs from the front around to the back side. It was caused from bad storage in a garage. The last time tested. It held water. I did not test it now as I did not want moisture in it for shipment due to the cold temperatures throughout the nation. There is a small glaze nick on the outer side of the lip as shown. 1 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by L. B. G. Chace. Somerset. This is the mark of Leonard and Benjamin G. Chace who ran the family pottery in Somerset. Mass. from 1847-1882. You can find a discussion of this pottery in William Ketchum. Jr.s book, American Stoneware, p. 51. Condition is good. With very nice patina. There are a couple of flaws near the bottom as shown in the last photo, but they have glaze over them, so they are original to the piece, not damage caused after, in my opinion. appx 11.5 x 7 I have another similar jug in another listing. Old Cobalt ? 3 Gallon Stoneware ? Beehive Salt Glaze ? Crock Jug
I know NOTHING about stoneware. In fact. I don't even know if it qualifies as stoneware, but here goes- 14 1/4 inches high with a 10 inch diameter bottom. There are no markings on the jug except the number 3(three) in blue and I assume that to be the volume of the jug- although the more I look at it, I'm thinking it could be the letter B. There is a definite crack in the finger handle and that is all there appears to be- doesn't look like it ever broke off- shows no sign of repair. It has been in our possession at least 40 years- it was purchased in Washington state(Spokane, if I remember correctly) but we have the place for sale and will be moving into a ground floor apartment with no outbuildings so it must go. Of particular interest is the brown"mottling" on the top and handle- we've never attempted to clean it ... moreso we have no idea if it will come off- original plug never been out. It is in pretty nice condition with a few flaws. There is a spider crack as seen in the first 2 pictures. This is a surface issue and does not impact the structure and integrity of the jug. Also. Old West estate find from Wickenburg. Arizona! Antique Moonshine, Whiskey Stoneware Crock/ Jug, 2 Gallon, Cobalt Blue Four Leaf Clover. Colors: two tone, beige& brown. Measurements approximately 12-3/4" height by 9" Weight is approximately 10.5 pounds. In very good condition. There is a very minor hairline that does not extend to the top or bottom of the jug. It's insignificant and doesn't affect the stability of the item(see last image) also there is very minor crazing around the inside of the top(see second to last image) Two pieces of the original cork stopper were found inside. We have for your consideration a 19th century antique Salt Glazed Stoneware Jug with a Cobalt Blue Double Wheat decor. This 3 gallon single handled jug is in an ovoid shape. The jug is solid and heavy. But it has the following age-related flaws, shown in the photos. There is a chip along the outside top rim(mouth) There is a hairline crack to the left of the cobalt design. There are several places that have flaws in the glaze. Due to the locations of the flaws they do not greatly affect the visual display of the jug. The jug measures 15 inches in height x 10 inches at its widest.
