ANTIQUE, NEW YORK STONEWARE COMPANY, STONEWARE JUG, COBALT FLUE FLOWER DESIGN
ANTIQUE. NEW YORK STONEWARE COMPANY, STONEWARE JUG, LARGE COBALT BLUE FLOWER DESIGN: If my research on this old stoneware jug is anywhere near accurate and correct, this vintage stoneware jug was manufactured by the NEW YORK STONEWARE COMPANY, Fort Edward, New York? Unfortunately, the computer's search engine keys on the common terminology"New York stoneware" There were many New York State stoneware potteries at one time in the state's historic past, so quite a few"New York stoneware" responses come to the surface! I would highly recommend YOU do your own personal research on this beautiful stoneware jug and its large cobalt blue flower design. My nine photos, taken from every possible angle, will give you an excellent idea as to the appearance and overall physical condition of this antique stoneware jug. This ... moreantique stoneware jug has only two very small imperfections, small chips on the top edge of the jug's neck/throat area, clearly illustrated in one of my photos. This stoneware jug weighs FIVE pounds and THIRTEEN ounces. The jug is 11 11/16 inches tall, 23 5/8 inches in circumference, and is 7 inches in diameter across its bottom/base. The opening in this jug's mouth is 7/8 inches wide. This large stoneware jug requires careful packaging and a large shipping carton, hopefully, to prevent someone from receiving six pounds of stoneware jug pieces they can then have the challenging task of putting together to make a jug! The postage/shipping costs I have documented for this antique stoneware jug, reflect shipping costs to the West Coast of the United States. Unless you are use to federal and state"entitlements" you KNOW there is no"FREE LUNCH" The reality of that simple truism in life, is reflected in U.S. Postal Service charges. If anyone has any questions on this jug that my photos do not illustrate for you, please feel free to drop me a line. Thank you. SEMPER FI! Old Cobalt ? 3 Gallon Stoneware ? Beehive Salt Glaze ? Crock Jug
I know NOTHING about stoneware. In fact. I don't even know if it qualifies as stoneware, but here goes- 14 1/4 inches high with a 10 inch diameter bottom. There are no markings on the jug except the number 3(three) in blue and I assume that to be the volume of the jug- although the more I look at it, I'm thinking it could be the letter B. There is a definite crack in the finger handle and that is all there appears to be- doesn't look like it ever broke off- shows no sign of repair. It has been in our possession at least 40 years- it was purchased in Washington state(Spokane, if I remember correctly) but we have the place for sale and will be moving into a ground floor apartment with no outbuildings so it must go. Of particular interest is the brown"mottling" on the top and handle- we've never attempted to clean it ... moreso we have no idea if it will come off- original plug never been out. Feel free to ask any questions. I ship on Tuesdays and Fridays. Thanks for looking.

Antique Cobalt Blue Flower Salt Glaze Stoneware Jug with Handle
Please keep in mind this jug is antique and handmade. Has a very small chip out of the top of the handle but other than that it is in pristine condition with all the normal manufacturer/glazing defects. It's an old jug and I was told it was made approx. between 1850 to 1899. It is NOT a reproduction. It does have a makers mark just below the neck of the jug but I cannot read it. To describe it I would say it is a blue dot mark with yellowish writing around the mark. It measures about 11 inches tall. Any questions please ask and I will answer as quickly as possible.

The pottery relied on local materials- using"potters clay" from the Red Bank Creek and paying 20 cents per(long) ton- 2.240 pounds. Sons of a Moon Township(now Center Township) farmer, in the town of Bridgewater. The exact location of their operation is not known at the present time, but we do know that they obtained their clay from a hillside near the confluence of Brady's Run and the Beaver River, around 1840. This date can be confirmed by a listing in the 1841 Bridgewater Business directory showing James and William L. Hamilton as potters. The Hamiltons produced utilitarian salt glazed stoneware in the form of jars, crocks, and jugs decorated with cobalt blue flowers, vines and lined embellishments in the typical German or tutonic tradition. in 1847. Russell purchased property in Boro Township. It was probably at this time that he began to produce stoneware marked, R.W. Russell(with and without"Beaver Pa. as his trademark. Many of the pieces produced by the Russell pottery were decorated with unusual leaf and flower designs sometimes coming from both sides of the piece and meeting in the center. The Russell pottery is shown on the map of Boro Township in the Caldwells Centennial Atlas of 1876. It was located near the confluence of Mudlick Cre

1800 - 1849 Shenandoah Virginia Stoneware Cobalt Blue Flower Jug AS IS
Nice early jug that took a beating. Broke into 4 or 5 pieces(not including handle. Which is missing) 1 small piece in front is missing. Not sure when it was broken and glued together. I'd say this is 1830s or 40s. I'm not an expert but I was told this is definitely Virginia and possibly Shenandoah area. You be the judge. Great cobalt flower still presents nicely. Attractive mottled honey brown glaze. In the making flaws at shoulders, probably from the stacking in kiln. About 9" high. 6" at widest. Please see all photos for condition. A flash glare-spot shows in center of photos. Ask any questions. Thanks for looking.

Be sure to see all our photos for specifics. Estate found in Eastern Pennsylvania, good luck! Dave Eldreth’s Story I have always admired the design and craftsmanship of early American pottery. Because of this interest. I pursued my dream to create Eldreth Pottery. Starting out as a young potter was anything but perfect and far from easy. I vividly remember loading my 1972 Ford Pinto until it was straining under the weight of numerous buckets of clay that I had dug myself from a local quarry in Southeastern Lancaster County. I didn’t have money for a potter’s wheel and improvised making my first wheel from an old Maytag washing machine. It included a three-speed tractor transmission and seat. I then mounted the contraption to some 6’ x 8’ timbers I had left over from building my house. It worked great. I would start out in third gear and keep do
