ANTIQUE LARGE 5 GALLON STONEWARE "BEEHIVE" JUG (0671)
This is a 19 th to very early 20 th CENTURY OVOID SALT GLAZE STONEWARE JUG with COBALT MOTIF. VERY LARGE VINTAGE STONEWARE JUG with the letter“H“ mark. The JUG is called a“BEEHIVE” style and the motif on the front of the jug is supposed to be a bee. It is Pennsylvania-New York Stoneware. 1850-1880, but it could be from several makers. It is likely a batch firing sequence used by the potter, they generally used a letter instead of numbers on limited runs, meaning the piece is hand painted. Stoneware like that is fired to a VERY high temperature(about 2300 degrees F) and about 1720, American potters began producing a form of stoneware developed in many Europe centuries earlier-stoneware glazed with salt and decorated with cobalt blue that is signed“H“ with a Beautiful Symbol painted in Blue. Salt glazed stoneware like this was very common in ... morethe 19 th-Century America and potters produced it all over the country. Eastman Kodak film emulsion chemical stoneware jug with glazed brown top and handle. Cobalt blue decoration on front depicts early Eastman Kodak. Rochester, NY company logo. It's purpose was to store chemicals(mainly methanol and acetone) used in the early photographic film industry. P.H. Smith 5-Gallon Jug I received this when my aunt passed away. I'm no expert. So I took many photos and will describe to the best of my ability. Please see the photos! P.H. Smith stamped on front. Along with the number 5. Approx 17" high, 11" across. I see several small chips on the body of the jug. There is a white mark that I thought was a chip but when I run my fingernail over it. It is very slightly raised. You can see it on the photo showing the back of the jug, on the left side of the back. Overall. It looks very nice. It has sat in my living room for many years. Antique 5 Gallon Brown Glazed Top Tennessee Stoneware Pottery Whisky Beehive Jug
This is a fantastic antique two-toned brown and natural glazed stoneware whisky jug from Tennessee that is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. It is beautiful all over with the rich. Even, shiny, brown glaze on the top and the even natural toned glaze on the bottom that is covered with natural crazing from age(shown in the last photo) giving it a charming vintage look. There is some light scuffing and scratching on the surface, but no other obvious damage. I haven't tried to fill it, but it is the same size as other 5 gallon jugs I have and it is definitely larger than a 3 gallon, so I believe it holds 5 gallons. It measures 11" W x 18" H and will be packed very well, double boxed, and insured during shipping.

Sturdy. Utilitarian earthenware jug is cream color with a brown top. It has a stenciled"5" on it, so it's a five gallon ceramic jug, but there's no other visible mark on this puppy. It is 18 1/2 inches tall and is on an 11-inch base. There are some chips(see photo) on the body. And on the base. This is a nice stoneware crock that was evidently used for canning. It is 15 inches tall. And 12 inches in diameter. It holds 5 gallons. It does show a crack on the bottom, but it doesn't leak. The top opening is almost 3-1/2 inches across. This type is very rare and hard to find. Other 5 gallon jugs have small top openings like a whiskey bottle or are completely open and shaped like a can. Here is a nice old 5 gallon whiskey jug from a North Carolina estate. It is from the turn of the century from what I can find online about the company. The owner seemed to be sued a lot for not fulfilling orders and promises. I've been able to connect him to the beginning of Canadian Club and a few other huge whisky names. The crock is in decent shape for being over a hundred years old. It has a few notable chips and it has crazing throughout. There is a mark on the back that I can't tell if it's a scratch or crack. This is a 2 Tone Color color jug with the top being a dark brown and the bottom section having a cream color. This is a large jug that weighs 26 pounds and measures 18 and 1/2" tall by 11" across at the base with a 2 and 1/4" across mouth. There is some minor wear present as well as a small chip on the inner section of the mouth as well as some fine hairline cracks towards the bottom in a small area section. I have provided photographs for this. There are no further breaks, chips, or repairs present. This is a must have stoneware jug for any serious collector.
