Very Old Brown & White Molasses Or Whiskey Pottery Jug
Here is a molasses jug made out of pottery that was used back in the day to store Moonshine. I can't say this one had moonshine in it. Jug stands a tad over 11 inches tall and is 7 inches across the base. Does have two chips which is common with these jugs to have some chipping from lots of use. One chip is on one side of the handle and the other one is on the bottom near the edge. You should be able to see them in the pictures. As you can see it displays well. Antique Brown Jug Crock Glazed Whiskey. Moonshine, Molasses. The stopper is much newer. Measures approx. 7 1/2 inches tall to top of handle and 6 inches across. Weights 3 1/2 pounds. Very nice brown glaze. There is a glazed over dent on the top of one side and some glazed over pits. There is glazed defect on the handle. See photos. There is 3-111 marks at the bottom back of jug. ANTIQUE POTTERY PRIMATIVE WHISKEY MOLASSES JUG POTTERY STONEWARE TAG 1 GAL 221 Offering one glazed stoneware whiskey or molasses jug. The glazing on top is of brown swill. the bottom portion glazed in off white. Appears to be a two piece with the molded handle being put on after the jug mold and then glazed. Shows very little wear and observed no scratches couple of dings here and there. A few pin tip glaze flaws as you would expect. B ottom is lightly glazed in white. There is a metal dog tag marked Dektol Developer so I suspect there may have been a chemical in the jug. The 1 gal. jug measures about 12"h X 6 1/2" w. EXCELLENT~ 1800's Albany Slip Glaze Stoneware Molasses Jug
This is an excellent early 1 gallon jug. Preserved in near original condition. It features a rich, deep brown Albany slip glaze and is completely free of chips, cracks, and repairs. The glaze is worn away on one side of the spout as well as a tiny bare spot on the handle. Near the bottom there are a couple of spots missing glaze and it appears these are resulting from the makers fingerprints! It appears that tbe original cork is still firmly in place, so I will let the buyer remove it and determine what it was they were sippin years ago.
