I believe that it portrays a lady on a garden bench with a small dog. Antique White Ironstone Pitcher & Bowl - Niagara Shape - Copper Lustre - c.1856
Offered is a gorgeous. Matching, White Ironstone Bowl& Pitcher in the Niagara Shape. This shape features wonderful embossing below the spout of the pitcher, and a series of fan shapes around the base of the pitcher and inner rim of the bowl. Both are beautifully outlined with copper lustre. They were produced by Edward Walley in Cobridge, England, and registered in November, 1856. Both pieces retain his impressed mark with the shape name. The bowl has a small chip on the underside rim and a tight hairline on the side of the bowl. The pitcher has spider lines on the bottom; one that goes a very short way up from the base. The pitcher also has a couple of pinpoint marks on the body from production. ANTIQUE COPPER LUSTRE 19TH C PITCHER ENGLISH APPLIED FIGURES FACE MINT CONDITION
A COPPER LUSTRE PITCHER WITH REAL PERSONALITY! HEY COLLECTORS! Fresh to the market this week is first time listing of a genuine early period 19th c English Copper Lustre Pitcher of goodly size with all the bells and whistles one could look for in one piece; highly lustrous shiny irridescent glaze. Applied polychrome tactile figures to the blue mid body band; beaded and ribbed body; a Mythical Face peering out from under the spout in relief, and overall, mint excellent condition. The pitcher stands five inches tall and three inches across the open top. It is unmarked on the bottom. Just more and plenty shiny deep copper overglaze as you can see from tilted picture, and true colors as taken on a recent spring day in natural daytime sunshine; what you see is accurate. On the blue band is a left and riight applied figural raised decoration of ... moremaidens in pink and orange gowns playing with spotted brids on a fence and central under the spout. Is a cluster bouquet of an orange, 2 lemons, and a pink morning glory flower with foliage. The beading twin rows is distinct and sharp, as are the ribbed rows along base for eye appeal, and the handle is slight ribbed. The under-face is just a nice extra touch and you can see the profile provided. The deep copper glaze wraps around to the interior cavity by two inches. Condition Report: Overall untouched. Unrepaired excellent condition. I see no hairlines or chips. For the sake of ulitmate accuracy, there is a white spot size of pencil tip on Pink Lady's shoulder of gown, may be a glaze flake or misfire, but been there the entire time. I carried this back from Florida on an airline flight having found it down there. Noting many good antiques go South with retirees saving the best for last, and then they come back North to make another Collector happy all over again! This charming pattern of the molded figures of the mother and child is often found in a larger size, typically 8" high or larger. Unusual to find this delightful small size cream pitcher. The lustre is still bright and beautiful. A deep coppery coloring and quite reflective so it is difficult to see the relief work. charming squatty pitcher.approx 4 3/4" at it highest x 6" at its widest.this pitcher has a unique. Different shape. the same pink color of the flower blossomes(apple? was used to create a pink rim(1" inside the lip. the trailing vine that connects the blossoms is copper lustre. the darker dots in the flower centers and along side are copper also. there is no crazing, chips, or crack sin the pitcher. there is very, very little copper loss. the handle and spout have no damage. the decorator of the pitcher painted a ship. With 2 sails, over the green factory maker's mark. I can not make it out. the style make me think this is an English piece. any suggestions about the mark would be appreciated. please look at the pictures and ask your questiions before buying. High Quality Antique Copper Lustre Pitcher Made in Staffordshire. England c.1850's Charming Very Large Copper Luster water pitcher/jug. With applied white sprigging on a blue background. Depicts scenes of cupids riding a chariot and on the other side. A cupid about to release his arrow, cupids flying and carrying torches, some musical instruments. Sprigging is good. On a par with Adams or old Sadler- I could not find these scenes in any of the Wedgwood catalogs. 6 7/8" tall x just over 9 1/2" from spout to handle. Please study the pictures provided from all angles taken in seasonal summer sunshine to show all detials mentioned herein; it almost mimics a Toby Jug in its rotund plump form. Yet it is pure Copper Lustre through and through, even on the bottom as you can see. The handle is a wiggly shape twisted affair with definite shape in an ear-form attached to the body perhaps like a garden vine. The left and right sides of the pitcher's body sport relief ... moremolded figures; after studying up close. I determine one side to be a Squirrel eating a nut under a Leafy Tree the same size as the animal(so much for perspective! and the reverse side appears to be perhaps a Hunter or Farmer under a tree in search after the squirrel.quite amusing 19th c decor intended to delight the eye of the beholder in dimly lit coal heated stone country cottages in nitty gritty Staffordshire districts and beyond. A sunray solar sun rises above human figure splashed onto rim on only one side(to the nonsharp viewer not noticing the story line it might look like a flower to you. After all, when you look up, you see only ONE sun in the sky, right? The Tricorn design folds actually allows liquid to be poured from side angles as well as traditional forward pour; quite clever indeed; perhaps this is for thick liquids like sorghum or cane syrup, which the British sweeten with in some recipes. Antiques don't talk but the experienced Dealer knows how to make them come alive again for new collectors in this modern age. Here are 2 charming examples of 19th Century Copper Lustre Ware. These 2 pitchers each are showing their age. Interiors are white. As shown. Bottoms are stable. Handles solid and attached CONDITION: Larger one has rubbing wear around the body. Smaller one has a repair at the spout and looks like copper paint applied. Other than that. The handles are good and stable and no other chips, cracks or other repairs. Photos show the issues. No cracks in the body of either. Will hold liquid if you choose to use them. SIZE Larger pitcher: 5 3/4" tall x 4" middle of body. Smaller one: 4 1/2" tall x 3/34" middle of body. MAKER: American. I believe. Could be British PATTERN& COLOR: In Boston.
