Lovely Dresden china pitcher is 11" high by 9 1/2" wide(from spout to handle) Opening is roughly 4" x 4" wide. No chips or cracks! The colors are wonderful featuring a wide magenta colored band at top. And pink and blue trumpet flowers on front with leaves and shadow leaves. Back design mimics front but in simpler motif. The gold banding is totally intact, as are the gold accent details on the handle. For those not familiar with T.P.C. Company here is a brief overview: T.P.C. Co. stands for The Potter's Co-operative Co. of East Liverpool, Ohio. This co-operative opened in 1882 when several local potteries purchased the Dresden Pottery Works. Wash Stand Basin Bowl Pitcher Smith Ford Jones Parisian Stone China England
For auction from a local midwestern estate is an antique wash stand bowl and pitcher set original to the era in which these items were used. The pitcher is 11 1/4 inches tall and 9 inches wide and weighs 3 lbs. 7 1/4 ounces. The pitcher is not signed or marked. Is molded and during the firing process in the kiln acquired a few small silt bumps. The dark pinkish is still vibrant but has a spot on the rim of the pitcher where the paint has worn away as noted in the pictures. Note the remarks above re the one inch by one inch surface scratch. The pitcher is simple in design, but elegant and beautiful. The bowl to this set is marked on the bottom and signed Parisian Stone China, Smith Ford& Jones, Burslem England, has nice age crazing, and ivory white with deep pinkish to maroon color appliqués of an English garden. The rim of the bottom ... moreof the bowl has nice age wear. There is a nice raised or 3-D dental molding along the top edge of the bowl on the outside coupled with leaf raised molding around the bottom of the bowl above the rim. There is a 4 cm indent in the china along the rim which is either a kiln occurrence or actual chip. If I had to guess, I would say it happened during firing of the glaze, BUT I AM NO EXPERT in pottery and can only describe to you what I see. The bowl measures 15 inches in circumfrence from rim to rim, and 5 1/2 inches from top of the bowl to bottom of the rim making the bowl depth 5 inches. Weight of the bowl is 5 lbs. 5 1/2 ounces. This is a nice set of a wash basin and water pitcher from a nostalgic time most likely, because the wear on the set is minor, used for the guest room for visitors. This one is a dandy for collectors. Antique Vintage White Ironstone Pitcher & Bowl Set Stone China JW Pankhurst & Co
Up for auction is a vintage antique English made stone china J. W. Pankhurst& Co. white ironstone pitcher and bowl set recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. They were in use before sinks and indoor plumbing was common. People would do daily washing in such pieces. This set is found in good used condition. The only real condition issue to discuss is a small hairline near the base of the pitcher, best seen in photo#6. There are three marks on the edge of the bowl, where it was set in a kiln, often found on such pieces. An example of this mark is best seen in photo#7. Both pitcher and bowl are marked. This set has a nice, but subtle decorated handle. Please see photo#11 for details. The bowl has an approximate diameter of 14" in size, while the base of the pitcher has an approximate diameter of 4 3/4" ... moreand is approximately 12" tall. Antique J W Pankhurst Stone China Pitcher, 10" Tall, Hanley, 1850-1852
This listing is for an antique J W Pankhurst stone china pitcher. Marked Hanley. From information I found on this company, this would have been made from 1850 to 1852. It has heavy crazing, a small crack on the lip(see pic 3) and possibly a crack on the lower part of pitcher(see pic 4) This may be crazing, not sure. This also has discoloration. It is 10" tall. This shows wear but for something that is 160 years old, it is amazing it is in as good a condition as it is. A nice addition to a collection.
