19thC GAUDY DUTCH WELSH CREAM PITCHER FACE SPOUT BEARDED MAN , RILEY , ENGLAND
19thC GAUDY DUTCH WELSH CREAM PITCHER FACE SPOUT BEARDED MAN. RILEY, ENGLAND A ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL LOOKING ENGLISH STAFFORDSHIRE. Ca.1802-1828. GAUDY CREAM PITCHER with FIGURAL SPOUT in the form of the HEAD of a BEARDED MAN" Octagonal Form. Hand painted vibrate colors decoration foliage motifs.Pattern name unknown? MARKED on underside: OPAQUE CHINA- embellished marks around this term. The following information was obtained from wwwmarks4ceramicscom after sending them photos of the MARK& PITCHER for identification. Face Jug: The term"Opaque Porcelain" is yet another phrase for IRONSTONE. And was used almost exclusively in England, so at least we know that it was most likely made in the UK. However, this term was used quite frequently and many companies used a variety of embellished marks around this term, which are not ... morenecessarily registered or documented, and it is nearly impossible to find a precise match that would be unique. However, one such company, JOHN& RICHARD RILEY(Burslem. Staffordshire, UK) is known to have made and exported large numbers of"Gaudy Dutch" earthenware to the US, ca 1802- 1828. In this case, our opinion is that this was most likely made by the Rileys. I personally was not sure if it was GAUDY DUTCH- GAUDY WELSH or GAUDY IRONSTONE. I am only going by the above information that I received from. APPROX. SIZE: 6 1/4" Height. 3 1/8" Diameter across Top Rim, 2 1/4" Bottom Base Diameter. VG+/FINE CONDITION- SEE SCAN PICS* very minor glaze loss in a couple spots around top edge rim. Otherwise no nicks, no chips, no flakes, no cracks, no hairlines, no repair, no damage) Exceptions considered very minor and acceptable for this quality item. Gaudy Dutch Welsh Pitcher Antique 19th c Oyster Pattern 4 ½” Tall
Gaudy Dutch Welsh Pitcher Antique 19 th c Oyster Pattern 4 ½” Tall A rescue from a Detroit area estate… Gaudy Dutch(or Welsh) Pitcher… 4 ½” tall… Un-marked… as to maker) Good color to the decoration… Pattern may be referenced as‘Oyster’ let me know if I am off and I am happy to correct) Condition Overall Good condition… Decoration is in very good condition with very minimal wear… A couple of small flakes to the spout and two(2) tight hairlines… Some light crazing to the interior… No chips or flakes to the base… No repairs… Decoration in rust. Blue, green and copper luster/gold… I am no Gaudy Dutch expert but feel confident this is period… of English manufacture… and dates to the 1810-30 or mid-19 th c period… Gaudy Dutch Gaudy Dutch pottery was made in England for the American market from about 1810 to 1820. It is a white earthenware ... morewith Imari-style decorations of red. Blue, green, yellow, and black inspired by Japanese Imari Pottery. Only sixteen patterns of Gaudy Dutch were made: Butterfly, Carnation, Dahlia, Double Rose, Dove, Grape, Leaf, Oyster, Primrose, Single Rose, Strawflower, Sunflower, Urn, War Bonnet, Zinnia, and No Name. Other similar wares are called Gaudy Ironstone and Gaudy Welsh. Some of the Gaudy Dutch items were marked with factory names, such as Riley(1802-1827) E. Woods and Sons, Burselm(before 1814) and Rogers(1815-1842) 052014 General Philosophy& Background: The items I am posting to ebay are largely items pulled from‘the basement’ or‘the garage’ interesting vintage/estate items that were too nice to trash or give to a rummage sale. I want/hope they find new homes with appreciative owners/collectors. My philosophy is somewhat‘old school’ to offer with low openings bids and generally no reserve. While I know something about a number of areas of collectibles I am a‘generalist’ and by no means an‘expert’ in books. Silver, ceramics, comic books and so forth. So while I try to describe them in some detail and provide representative photos you will not see them with sp

Antique Early Flow Blue Orange Floral Pink Lustre Gaudy Welsh Dutch Pitcher
Beautiful early antique either Gaudy Dutch or Welsh I think. It is unmarked and is early. The colors are incredibly vibrant. Pink Lustre. Orange and flow blue hand painted in a floral design. It's in good condition for its age. There is an embossed design under the spout. And an amazing decorative handle. It has just a couple of spots where the paint has worn and one can be seen in the first photo. There it a separation inside by the handle that is obviously in the making and is just in the glaze. There is some slight browning on the top edge and on the bottom there is a separation in the pottery on the edge with a very small shallow chip. These imperfections don't stand out by any means. It measures 6" high and 6" across. Thanks.
