Antique Brown & Mustard Decorated Redware Pitcher; 19th Century Folk Pottery old
Here's a beautiful. 19th century redware pitcher in very good condition! Thick, rugged, and heavy, this piece has an ovoid shape with a wide midsection. It has a gorgeous blend of colors including mustard, brown, and greens. The glaze& oxides were somehow applied in a manner where it didn't adhear in certain places and other parts were not glazed at all, including the bottom. In other areas the glaze is drizzled or running downward. When fired, interesting characteristics were created including mottling and a speckled effect. The unglazed red portions have an original, grungy patina that's the result of past use, places it was kept, and the passage of time. Oddly enough. There's some sort of slip decoration on the front, under the spout, that is difficult to discern. It probably was a name or some sort of writing and part ... moreof a date where a mistake was made and the entire piece was glazed over in this unique manner to cover it up. It looks like a capital letter C with a last name under it, followed by 1874 or 1879, perhaps. The way the piece was glazed as well as wear and tear makes it very difficult to make out. In fact, we didn't really notice the writing until after viewing one of the photos while posting this auction. It's an interesting peak into the history of this old pitcher and perhaps if you are skilled, you may be able to determine what it says under that glaze. Regardless. This is a very attractive piece of pottery that also has decorative incised bands, an applied handle, a charming country-style shape, and of course its very nice coloring. It measures 10 1/4 inches high while the diameter of the bottom is 4 1/8 inches. The opening of the pitcher is 5 1/4 inches including the spout and the widest point in the middle is 7 1/2 inches. It weighs over 4 pounds. We found no cracks or hairlines, only some old pitting on the interior that isn't structurally significant. There is surface wear and loss of glaze but nothing that detracts from its beauty. This piece is still even

Up for bid is a very fine Regency period English bone china cream pitcher. Circa 1830. The pitcher is 6 inches long by 4 inches wide and stands 4 1/4 inches tall at the top of the handle. It has a nicely scrolled leafy handle and stand on three scroll feet. It bears a decorator’s mark of“615/ X” as shown. Condition on the pitcher is quite good. There are some minor scratches and wear to the decoration. But not much. There is an original firing flaw on the base near one foot, but no later chips, cracks or repairs. Antique Decorated Ovoid Redware Pitcher; 19th Century Mottled Folk Pottery old
This time we have an early piece of decorated redware pottery in very good. Well-preserved condition. Dating to the middle 19th Century, this lead glazed pitcher has beautiful coloring that was achieved through the use of oxides. It's primarilly green inside and out with mustard and orange colored mottling all over. On the interior, the green turns to mustard at the bottom third of the piece where the surface is worn from use. On the exterior, an area that varies from 3/4 inch to 2 inches from the bottom wasn't glazed, nor was the underside. The original red clay surface was left exposed and an old, grungy patina resulted from past use and the passage of time. Carved into the bottom are the initials"A.S. In addition, this old piece has whimsical, white-yellow floral decorations on opposite sides, adding even more folksy charm. ... moreThe exterior glaze shows wear and tear. Mostly surface scratches from coming in contact with other items. Also, there are a pair of contact marks where it was touching other pieces while being fired. As mentioned earlier, the interior has some loss of glaze but the clay surface is not eroded. Glaze was also worn off on the opening rim and the edges of the handle. There are only a couple of old chips on the rim, none elsewhere. While writing this description we noticed a 2 1/2" line in the back, under the handle, that looks like a very tight hairline. It doesn't appear to go all the way through to the interior and can't be felt when running a finger or fingernail across it. While we like to fully disclose all flaws to the best of our ability, these are really just indicators of heavy use and are helpful in authentication. Redware pottery was used for common, everyday purposes; it was not considered anything special. Surviving examples are often found with significant damage so this early pitcher was well cared for throughout its history. Heavier than it looks, this piece is solid, rugged, and structurally sound. Up for your consideration is a very large. Beautiful& unique stoneware pitcher from an estate sale. When we rescued this beauty from the previous owner, it was very dirty& discolored. After removing the layers of aged residue, I uncovered this beautiful piece of art! I didn't even see the gold trim& borders when I purchased it. I believe it is painted to appear crazed. Because the handle is in excellent condition with not crazing. The base color is a pale gray, the designs are a pale pink and shades of blue that look more like lavender. Gold trim on both the top& bottom, with a beautiful gold handle. The base was not glazed where it sat in the kiln. The bottom has a painted circle in gold with either 16 or 91 inside the circle. Antique stoneware pitcher with decorated love birds could also be considered as a Jug. This fabulous piece is rare. Unique, and seldom seen in this brown/green color. Notice the love birds on the branch and they are on both sides of the pitcher. Inside the bottom of the pitcher is the letter G. Very detailed roping, the love birds sitting on a branch with leaves and berries. This pitcher measures almost 8 inches high. And 4 1/2 inches across the top of the pitcher. Neat item. Early Redware Pitcher Jug with manganese sponged accents with slip decorated incised lines We are please to offer this nice hand decorated and formed redware pitcher. The pitcher has wonderful maganese sponging around the neck and white slip bands overlaying the incised lines also around the neck. The strap handle is applied from the neck to the fullest section of the ovoid pitcher. The lip of the pitcher has no spout. The pitcher is glazed on the interior and unglazed on the bottom of the exterior. We have not washed the pitcher so there may be some dust in nooks and crannies and in the interior.The jug was acquired from an East Bend. NC yard sale but we are not certain of the actual origins of the pitcher. Either way it is a nice solid example of slip decorated redware and would make a wonderful addition to the winners collection! Large Antique Ceramic Pitcher Transfer Decorated Grapes Peaches Gold Trim
This pitcher is about 12.75" tall. I could not identify what company made it. The mark on the bottom is very faint. The color ooks like light green. The image appears to be a lion with a crown on it's head. That really narrows it down! Above the lion's head is a word. Some of the letters might be POCO or PUCO or? Anyone out there recognize it? There are seams that extend down from the spout and on the other side under the handle. The gold trim is mostly gone. But it was on the upper and lower edges and around the two raised circles around the base. The transfer decorations are in very good condition for being probably more than 100 years old. There is a hairline crack, about 1.5" long, coming down from the top, just to the left of the handle. No other chips, cracks or repairs.

I have for you this evening a beautiful example of old English pottery made at the kilns of an unknown company in Bavaria around the turn of the 20th century. This piece is made of fine heavy grade porcelain and has been cast into a classic mold design. This piece has been beautifully hand painted with yellow lemons that look so real they will make your mouth water just looking at them and imagining the tart tange of the fruit. The piece is initialed JMJ and the artist was obviously accomplished as the fruit are very well rendered along with the foliage. The gold gilt is nicely placed as well. 1847 ANTIQUE MULBERRY Transferware BOCHARA IRONSTONE DECORATED WATER PITCHER
This is a gorgeous MULBERRY transferware water pitcher made in the 1840's. It is large. Standing 12" tall and 8" at the widest point. The mulberry color is almost black on the base. The bottom has James Edwards impressed. This picture was made in Burlsem England and is in an oriental design with persons on a bridge and with lovely bunches of flowers. An interesting fact is that the pitcher was purchased on Ebay sometime in the past as it has an Ebay receipt inside that shows the local person who bought it paid $265.00. There is no date on the receipt. The pitcher has an old crack in the base of the handle that is starting to discolor. I have pictured this. 800x600 Mochaware Slip Decorated Milk Jug Pitcher with Foliate Handle Staffordshire England 1840 This is a great early to mid 19th century mocha ware slip decorated milk jug with crisp bands of blue and brown against creamy earthenware with blue ponded glaze. This generous sized creamer stands 4 1/2” tall and measures 5 1/2" across. It has an applied incised handle with foliate terminals. The whole body is covered with transparent lead glaze with hints of blue to give it a slightly shiny but matte appearance. The jug is in very good overall condition with use wear consistent with age. An in the making firing flaw at the spout joint and another on the foot. Haphazardly made. Intended for utilitarian use and probably considered disposable. There is a man playing a stringed instrument. A swordsman holding a mug, and a lady with a ruffled collar. All kinds of ornamentation surrounds them. This is a Victorian copper lustre milk pitcher in good condition. It measures approx. 5 1/2" tall 6 1/2' long spout to handle and has a 3" diameter base. This is an antiue pitcher so it shows the normal signs of age and use. Some of the lustre is worm off. There are no chips. Cracks or damage. I see no problems.

This is a very beautiful antique porcelain pitcher with its unique designed handle and hand painted or transfer dark pink roses. The pitcher is very old. Has crazing and a surface crack on the inside of the top as seen in the photos. The crack does not appear to be all the way through the porcelain. This is a very beautiful unique antique piece with cherries on the handle. The gold is worn in several areas. It has a mark of Austria on the bottom. I have seen a vase/ urn online with the same design and handles with the Royal Carlsbad Austria mark. Please refer to the photos for additional details. This is a darling piece that adds warmth to any decor(even if you're not from Iowa! We think it was most likely made in England in the late 19th or early 20th century, possibly as a commemorative or collectible piece for the State of Iowa? Creamware or ironstone. Darkened over time to a rich ecru- Both sides are decorated with scenes of an old mill on a stream. Framed by wildflowers in dark red/sienna on an ecru background- Glaze of ribbed collar has darkened in an alternating pattern that has produced a lovely patina and depth- On underside. Iowa" is stamped in brown ink, 846" is hand-painted in gilt, and"3" is impressed- Very ... moreslight remaining thin gilt line along rim. Glaze is crazed throughout. Which is typical for this type of piece- From my clean. Smoke-free home This pitcher has been in storage for the last 40 years. It is really nicely preserved for its age but there are flaws. Although there are no repairs or alterations. Two adjoining chips on lip: outer 3/16" x 5/16" and inner 3/16" x 7/16" 3/16" nick on inside of lip above handle- 1-1/2" hairline crack in glaze on inner side of lip. With 1/4" appearing on outer lip- Minor hairline cracks in glaze on underside which do not go through- Bottom of handle has crack—appears to be through and through—however. B&M Co. The company began business in Trenton in 1879. In the Eagle Pottery, erected in 1876 by Richard Millington. They produced a large line of table and toilet wares and a number of characteristic styles of art wares, in bold ornamentation and harmonious coloring. Some of their larger vases and pitchers, painted by a Japanese artist in their employ, were said to be among the finest pieces of the kind ever produced in this country. This piece could easily be one of them. It features a blooming iris in muted tones with a sweet dusty rose/ pink bamboo-like finial and ... morehandle.
