Large Antique Cattails Relief Molded Salt Glaze Pitcher Ridgway Imposing Size
Elegant. White matte pitcher with natural cat tails design. Now hard to find. Among my grandmother’s treasures was a collection of Relief Molded and Parian Pitchers. This white. Matte glazed pitcher was her favorite and was always displayed in a position of prominence on her oak sideboard. From the research we have done on the internet. It was most probably made by Ridgway of England, although the bottom marks are cryptic to us. They consist of numbers 7 and 93; and the letter S. Like all of my grandmother’s pitchers. It is probably dated around the mid-19 th Century. The design of the cat-o-nine tails and leaves is really elegant. They appear to be gracefully swaying in the wind. As a little girl. My grandmother lived on the bay near a salt marsh and clearly this pitcher reminded her of her New England childhood in the early 1900s. The exterior ... moreappears to be matte salt glaze—maybe smear glaze—and the interior is a high gloss glaze. Size: Imposing 10 ¾ inches tall at the handle. It is about 7 ¾ inches in diameter at its widest and the bottom is 4 ¼ inches in diameter. Overall the condition is good except for: staining on the inside and outside of the spout area. Crazing of the interior high glass glaze, a couple of small surface hairlines on the bottom and two manufacturing flaws on the cattails. One looks like a chip but you can see it was a manufacturing“smulpt” when you magnify it. On the handle there are some tiny surface hairlines. Which do not go through to the bottom of the handle, some lighter stains and a small dark manufacturing flaw. The flaws are photographed and you can magnify them to inspect them closely. This large pitcher makes an incredible design statement in any décor. T he whole room can be decorated around it. Terms and Conditions: I only accept PayPal and ship to the PayPal account address. Payment is required within 7 days of the auction’s end. Please inform me of your payment plans within 24 hours of the auction’s end. Postage will be via USPS Priority Mail plus delive

Large Crimean War Soldiers Relief Molded Pitcher Ridgway Abington Unique Handle
The following description was found on a slip of paper inside the jug. It was written by Kathy Hughes. Author of A Collector' Guide to Nineteenth-Century Jugs Vols. I and II: A celadon green. Ridgway and Abington, stoneware, relief-molded jug in the Three Soldiers pattern. Registered by Ridgway on August 1, 1855. Around the bowl are three, large, Crimean War soldiers, complete with muskets and swords. The molding is superb, and the condition of the jug is excellent- except-at sometime the handle has been off and this METAL handle has been applied. They have done a wonderful job, and it tickles me that someone went to all that trouble to do it in metal. The metal has been painted green to match the body of the jug. 1855- 9 1/4" condition above. Antique Staffordshire relief molded(moulded) jug pitcher. Appx. 7 1/2" tall, with high relief decoration commonly referred to as"Babes in the Woods. The wood-like background on the front. And the ornate foliage-only design on the back, is sometimes called"Oak. Items of this pattern were made by many makers throughout the early to mid-18th century, so they are difficult to attribute to a specific pottery unless marked. This sweet little pitcher must have been treasured, because it has an old mend where the handle was bolted back on after being broken off. However. I still think it desirable for display purposes, especially because the glaze is still so high and unworn. There is very little wear to the decoration. Except I think maybe the color is worn off the faces of the"Babes" I think maybe their cheeks were originally ... morepinker!

Rare antique mid1800s American made relief molded stoneware "Willie" jug/pitcher
We are listing this rare antique relief molded stoneware"Willie" jug from the mid 1800s. Which has an American maker's cartouche on the bottom(which I have not been able to identify) The jug is named after Robert Burn's poem of the same name, and each side of the jug shows Willie and two friends sitting and drinking together. It also has a twisted rope handle, a tree on the front and back, and a band of leaves around the neck. The cartouche on the bottom features a lion, shield(with stars and stripes) mounted by an eagle, and a unicorn. During the mid 1800s many American potters included the lion and unicorn(common Staffordshire pottery symbols) in their marks to imply an English-level of quality, but the shield and eagle make this a definite American piece(much less common than English pottery from the same time period) ... moreThe jug is 5.5 inches tall, almost 5 inches at its widest point, and has a very rustic looking finish with lots of color specks coming through. It appears the handle may have been off and put back on(or else it was roughly applied to begin with) there is a small flake off the bottom of the coat on one of the drinkers, and there are several very small mars to the finish which are hard to distinguish from the color specks coming through. We have included close up pictures of the handle and the missing flake. A rare old American piece with a nice country look to it. We can currently only accept bids on this from the United States. The United Kingdom, and Canada. Shipping to the United Kingdom and Canada will be charged at cost. Payment must be made by Paypal within three days of the auction ending. France during the mid 1800s- they specialized in brightly colored, ornate ceramics. The jug is 7.5 inches tall, 7.5 inches at its widest point, and displays well. Due to the deep relief of its decorative figures, there are a couple of small losses(see the close up pictures) A piece of extended arm and hand is missing at the front of the jug, and there is a chip off a putti below the donkey. In addition there is a hairline crack on the bottom of the jug which extends very slightly up the bottom rim at the front, there is a small firing crack where one side of the handle joins the top rim, an even smaller firing crack above the bottom of the handle, ... moreand a very small firing crack on a putti's arm above the goat(see the close up pictures) This is a very striking jug.
