Free Shipping Location: Reidsville, United States Here's a beautiful. 19th century redware pitcher in very good condition! Thick, rugged, and heavy, this piece has an ovoid shape with a wide midsection. ... moreIt has a gorgeous blend of colors including mustard, brown, and greens. The glaze& oxides were somehow applied in a manner where it didn't adhear in certain places and other parts were not glazed at all, including the bottom. In other areas the glaze is drizzled or running downward. When fired, interesting characteristics were created including mottling and a speckled effect. The unglazed red portions have an original, grungy patina that's the result of past use, places it was kept, and the passage of time. Oddly enough. There's some sort of slip decoration on the front, under the spout, that is difficult to discern. It probably was a name or some sort of writing and part of a date where a mistake was made and the entire piece was glazed over in this unique manner to cover it up. It looks like a capital letter C with a last name under it, followed by 1874 or 1879, perhaps. The way the piece was glazed as well as wear and tear makes it very difficult to make out. In fact, we didn't really notice the writing until after viewing one of the photos while posting this auction. It's an interesting peak into the history of this old pitcher and perhaps if you are skilled, you may be able to determine what it says under that glaze. Regardless. This is a very attractive piece of pottery that also has decorative incised bands, an applied handle, a charming country-style shape, and of course its very nice coloring. It measures 10 1/4 inches high while the diameter of the bottom is 4 1/8 inches. The opening of the pitcher is 5 1/4 inches including the spout and the widest point in the middle is 7 1/2 inches. It weighs over 4 pounds. We found no cracks or hairlines, only some old pitting on the interior that isn't structurally significant. There is surface wear and loss of glaze but nothing that detracts from its beauty. This piece is still even

Antique Decorated Ovoid Redware Pitcher; 19th Century Mottled Folk Pottery old
This time we have an early piece of decorated redware pottery in very good. Well-preserved condition. Dating to the middle 19th Century, this lead glazed pitcher has beautiful coloring that was achieved through the use of oxides. It's primarilly green inside and out with mustard and orange colored mottling all over. On the interior, the green turns to mustard at the bottom third of the piece where the surface is worn from use. On the exterior, an area that varies from 3/4 inch to 2 inches from the bottom wasn't glazed, nor was the underside. The original red clay surface was left exposed and an old, grungy patina resulted from past use and the passage of time. Carved into the bottom are the initials"A.S. In addition, this old piece has whimsical, white-yellow floral decorations on opposite sides, adding even more folksy charm. ... moreThe exterior glaze shows wear and tear. Mostly surface scratches from coming in contact with other items. Also, there are a pair of contact marks where it was touching other pieces while being fired. As mentioned earlier, the interior has some loss of glaze but the clay surface is not eroded. Glaze was also worn off on the opening rim and the edges of the handle. There are only a couple of old chips on the rim, none elsewhere. While writing this description we noticed a 2 1/2" line in the back, under the handle, that looks like a very tight hairline. It doesn't appear to go all the way through to the interior and can't be felt when running a finger or fingernail across it. While we like to fully disclose all flaws to the best of our ability, these are really just indicators of heavy use and are helpful in authentication. Redware pottery was used for common, everyday purposes; it was not considered anything special. Surviving examples are often found with significant damage so this early pitcher was well cared for throughout its history. Heavier than it looks, this piece is solid, rugged, and structurally sound. It stands 10 inches tall and has a base diameter of 4

Brown Glaze Salt Redware Pottery Hand Craft Pitcher Jug
I am selling for a family member. She has recently moved to a studio apartment from a large home and does not have room or the decor for her late brother's Asian treasures. He was an artist for a major card company whose companion was the Asian buyer for the corresponding luxury department store. The companion also brought back"treasures" for their own collections and the brother's home was decorated entirely Asian. The exception was some local pottery of which he had a small collection. This is a salt glaze type red ware or reddish brown glaze pitcher. It is signed on the bottom but it is very hard to read. Especially as I am unfamiliar with the artist. It appears to say Bimme or Bumme followed by a large flourished H. Next to the H is apparently the year the item with its applied leaf motif on the handle was made, it says ... more81. Below and connected to the H is a stylized flower or leaf. The piece has variations in the color and thickness of the glaze that appear to be intentional, and give the impression of age. It is in good used condition but was apparently used to hold some of his art supplies as there is some blue on the inside bottom. I have not attempted to remove this. It is overall a very appealing and warm looking piece and is around 3 3/4" tall and around 5" wide handle to spout. It would be my guess that it was made by an artist from the Kansas City area. I welcome comment from those who know more. Shipping will be actual to you with no extra"handling" charges. i just want to find these items new homes. Thanks for looking.

6-1/4" PENNSYLVANIA ESTATE EARLY REDWARE PITCHER JUG ODD SHAPED
Here is a very old redware jar/ jug/ pitcher with a non-round shape. It appears to have been shaped away from'round' for a particular. Unknown purpose. Perhaps to make the handle do its function better when pouring something like batter. It's glazed on the inside as well, but there is no glaze along the top rim. There are two incised rings about an inch below the top. Additional incisions are along the handle. The odd shape top is about 6" by 7" It has a nice sound when you pluck the bowl. I did not detect cracks, chips or hairlines. Glaze is in generally good condition.

Troyan Pottery Pitcher & 6 Cups from Bulgaria Redware with yellow, Cream Slip
This is a very beautiful pottery set that I have just learned is Troyan pottery from Bulgaria. They are in great condition. The pitcher holds 5 cups and each cup holds 6 ounces. When filled to the top. The pitcher is perfect, as are four of the mugs, and the other two have just little worn areas, a bit here and there on the rim or foot, but worn soft, not like big chips. The yellow is stunning, leaning almost toward mustard but not quite, with speckles. The slip trailed colors are cream, blue, brown, white and terra-cotta. The clay-body itself is terra cotta. Shipping is fixed price and insurance is included in the"handling fee.
