Antique Samuel Alcock Lavender Relief Parian Jug Pitcher James Dixon Pewter Lid
I knew nothing about this jug when I saw it at a local estate. But thought it was just beautiful. I have since learned that it is Samuel Alcock Parian Ware(similar to Jasper Ware) dating sometime in the mid 19th century. It has a gorgeous lilac or lavender ground with white relief detailing what appear to be Greek or Roman gods, and a face incorporated within the upper section of the handle. The surface of the pitcher is clean and free of stains or spots or other things I have seen on similar pitchers listed on Ebay. The handle is repaired at each spot it meets the pitcher, but done quite nicely so that it does display well. It is about 7.5" tall. The base bears a black under glaze hallmark as shown, as well as"118" printed under the glaze, and"24 M" impressed on the rim of the base. There is a small chip on the base. ... moreThe lid is metal- either silverplate or pewter, I really don't know, and is marked James Dixon& Sons and with"57" impressed in the metal. The inside is white and appears to be clean with no stains, cracks etc. I tried to take good photos for you, but please let me know if there is anything else you need. Thanks for looking.
