The basket was made by Wilcox Silverplate Co. And it is made of Quadruple Silverplate in Meriden, Conn. Wilcox started making silverplate items in 1865, and they continued until they joined with Internation Silver in 1898. The basket has a scalloped edge, and around that edge is a scroll, rose, and leaf pattern. In the center of the basket is an ornately etched bird nest, and the top of the handle is monogrammed CMB. The basket has a four-footed base, and each leg has a Art Nouveau motif floral pattern. The model# 4751 basket measures 10 1/4" wide by 9 1/2" long by 5 1/2" tall. You are looking at a very special Victorian period wedding/brides basket or fruit basket.though a 100 years old it appears pretty much like new. Even the handle which on these items tends to get floppy after 100 years of use is still firm and stays where placed on its own. Other than needing a good silver polish I see no faults with this lovely piece. I have been selling silver for nearly 45 years and this is one of the best I've seen of this sort. While not signed with any company logo etc(which really puzzles me when I look at the quality)it is signed beneath the rim of the supporting pedestal-but that appears to be the marking of some ones estate etc? I can't answer that-other than to say it is a very nice basket. The basket is 4inches high(not counting the handle bail) and 10 1/2 inch diameter. I am offering for your consideration an elegant Victorian style silver quadruple-plate wedding basket. It would be great for your flower girl to carry or as a table decoration on your special dinner. It is in excellent condition and very unique. Measures 10.25" x8.5" on the top. 9" High(including handle) 2.75" high(without handle) Also, there are a very minute corrosion/loss of silver plate marks in the top of the bowl, but they are so small that it doesn't take away from the appearance. Antique Wilcox Silverplate Quadruple Plate Handled Wedding Plate Brides Basket
This beautiful plate(or basket) is etched with a floral rose design. This style plate on a pedestal has been referred to as a Wedding Plate. Handled Brides Basket, Bridal Basket, Cake Basket, Calling Card Tray and a Brides Calling Card Basket. The mark on the bottom is a full circle and reads: Quadruple Plate, Wilcox Silverplate Co, Meriden, Conn and the#2772(I believe, the# is difficult to read) It measures approx 9" wide at the top, the plate is 5" tall, 11.5" to the top of the handle and 5.25" across the bottom of the base. The Wilcox Silver Plate Co. started in 1867. The company trademark(crossed hammers in full circle) remained in use through the acquisition of Parker& Casper Co. in 1869 and the formation of the International Silver Co. in 1898. Considering it's age the plate is in great condition. The Victorian bridal basket is very interesting with figural accents. Around the rim of the basket are very well-detailed Knights in armor and the bust of a woman that could be a Queen. The base of the basket has a reclining dog and the four feet are hooves. The basket comes with what is believed to be its original etched glass bowl. The bowl is clear glass with a border of shields or crests that have a cross and circle, and there is a star in the bottom of the bowl. The basket is marked on the bottom as shown in the pictures. Listed for auction is a beautiful silver plate footed Victorian era"Bride's Basket" with an ornate handle and an intricate relief design of birds& foliage surrounding the rim of the bowl. It was made by Simpson Hall Miller. Probably in the early 1900's. I purchased this at an estate sale in Saratoga Springs, NY(a place known for it's Victorian homes& rich history) It was given to its previous owner as a wedding gift in the 1940's. Vtg Homan silverplate flower or Wedding basket footed bowl for repair
It is 14 1/4"H and 9 1/2"W. As you can see it needs a lot of work. Cleaning and polishing. One of the side details is missing but it works without it. The handle is straight and not bent. There are some very shallow dents here and there. Minor and barely noticeable. I am not sure if the plate is worn or just needs a polish. Middletown Bride's Bridal Wedding Basket, Quadruple Silverplate, Roman, Grecian
This is a silver plated bride's basket that we believe was made during the Victorian era by the Middletown Plate Company. This unusual piece is decorated with Roman/Grecian figures including gladiator or warriors. Palm fronds and flowers. The inside of the bowl has detailed etchings of flowers and leaves on four sides. The basket has a pedestal base which gives it a nice, elegant look. The basket is marked Quadruple Plate. A term most commonly used during the Victorian period. The maker's mark is Middletown Plate Co, who merged with International Silver in 1899. We believe this is an antique Victorian era bride's basket. This item is in good vintage condition with heavy tarnish that actually looks lovely on this piece. Antique Brides Basket-Wedding Basket-Silverplate Holder-Peach
What a wonderful antique brides basket with original silverplate holder and a deep peach glass bowl with a white casing. No chips. Cracks, or repairs that I can find. The part that holds the bottom of the glass bowl looks to be a little oblong but the bowl fits perfectly and this does not show when displayed. A tiny separation in the stand where it was solder together when made. Could be fixed by a silversmith but it's such a minor thing I would leave it alone. May be the way it came from the company. The silverplate holder is marked Crescent Silver Co. on the bottom. The beautiful glass bowl is ruffled and shows no scratches. Probably a display piece only for many years. It has a pretty grape and leaf border around the edge of the basket as well as a bunch of grapes dangling from the top of the handle. The basket has a pedestal base which gives it a nice. Elegant look. This basket is marked Quadruple Plate. A term most commonly used during the Victorian period. The maker's mark is Wilcox Silver Co, a company that was merged with International Silver in the late 1890s. This item is in good vintage condition with a minor tilt to the basket that could likely be wiggled into place if desired. It has heavy tarnish that actually looks lovely on this piece. A Beautiful and Elegant Silverplate swing handle brides basket/bowl. It was manufactured by James W. Tufts of Boston. MA. It is marked Quadruple plate. And is numbered 4336. The center of the bowl depicts a floral motif that is raised in some places. The rim has a nice bead around the edge and the handle has floral décor and graduated bead design at top. The swing handle moves easily. And the feet are perfect. It is tarnished, I will let the buyer decide to polish this or not. The bowl measures 9" and stands 2 1/4" high without handle. An unusual antique BRIDAL or WEDDING BASKET(TAZZA) With a swing handle. I cannot find identifying markings of any kind, but it seems most likely that this is silverplate. The height of the bowl is about 4 inches, the diameter of the bowl is about 12 inches, and with the handle laid flat it is about 13 inches across. With the handle up the height is about 11 inches. The metal is deeply embossed(high relief) with figures of a variety of fruits and possibly nuts. I can see pears and grape clusters, but there are a lot of other things present. The decorations are very densely packed, with relatively flat surfaces only near the very center of the bowl. The handle is also highly decorated. The bowl sits on a 4 toed pedestal which is also decorated. I think it is likely the basket was made pre-1940 and certainly pre-1950. This basket has an unusual ... moreand colorful toning pattern(patina) It is darker on the underside than on top. And darker near the circumference than towards the center. In the gradations of toning you can see colors such as purple, red, and blue. A piece which appears identical to this. But with a different toning pattern, sold recently on eBay for $35.60.
