Lovely. Ornate- so Victorian! Silverplate Bride's Basket In Victorian days. A very common and suitable gift for a young bride or bride-to-be would be a silver or silverplate Bride's basket. She would place it on the front table where it would soon be filled with well-wishes from family and friends. The main features of the basket are the handle and the wide rim. The basket is also somewhat raised on its base. So it appears very much like a real basket you might see made of straw and natural materials. So it takes one somewhat aback to see the basket design in the more elegant medium of silverplate. This one has such a lovely. Ornate repousse design to it! It is just a very lovely example of a Victorian Bride's Basket. Antique Wilcox Silverplate Quadruple Plate Handled Wedding Plate Brides Basket
This beautiful plate(or basket) is etched with a floral rose design. This style plate on a pedestal has been referred to as a Wedding Plate. Handled Brides Basket, Bridal Basket, Cake Basket, Calling Card Tray and a Brides Calling Card Basket. The mark on the bottom is a full circle and reads: Quadruple Plate, Wilcox Silverplate Co, Meriden, Conn and the#2772(I believe, the# is difficult to read) It measures approx 9" wide at the top, the plate is 5" tall, 11.5" to the top of the handle and 5.25" across the bottom of the base. The Wilcox Silver Plate Co. started in 1867. The company trademark(crossed hammers in full circle) remained in use through the acquisition of Parker& Casper Co. in 1869 and the formation of the International Silver Co. in 1898. The half circle mark was not used until the 1920's. This dates ... morethe plate between 1867 and somewhere in the 1920's. Putting it at 90 to 100+ years old. Considering it's age the plate is in great condition. There are some light scratches and a couple of small spots of silver loss in one area on the face of the plate(shown in photos) There are four tiny spots on the rim where the handle hits which seems to be common in this style plate. Antique Ornate Pairpoint Quadruple Plate Handled Brides Bride Basket
This is really a lovely old antique quadruple plate silver bride's basket. It was manufactured by the Pairpoint Mfg. Co. of New Bedford. I really love the beautiful designs that goes around the rim of the piece as well as inside of the basket-inside the basket there is a floral design. There is a lovely swing handle that has an ornate top. There are four ornamental style of feet that adds to the look. The silver finish has worn off from time over the years. It is approx. 9 1/2" tall from top of handle to bottom. It is approx. 10" across.

Antique Derby Silver Company Handled Quadruple Plated Brides Basket
Up for auction is this really gorgeous antique brides basket. I believe it is from the 1800's and is quadruple plate silver. This is a very ornate basket with the handle having a lot of filigree details which looks like leaves. The name Dora is engraved on the bottom. It has not been cleaned as a lot of people like the old patina look. In the center is a raised circle design which has a crane bride and a lot of other ornate designs. It is approx. 11" tall from top of handle to bottom. There are light scratches inside of the basket. It is approx. 8 1/2" across. there is a lip on both sides with a etched design. It is marked on the bottom in a raised circle Derby Silver Company Derby CT Quadruple Plate with an anchor and crown and rope. Someone has also scratched initials EHT on the bottom. Marked on the bottom with the traditional mark“Meriden Company. Quadruple Plate, 1887” Condition is good. Are there are NO dents, broken or repairs present. There are scratches on the top rim. NO monogram present. Measures a full 12 1/4 inches to the top of the bail handle. The bowls edge is 10 inches in diameter(8 inch inside diameter) and 5 1/4 inches tall. Ontario– Canada, specifically Kitchener and Ingersoll, after immigrating to Canada from Pennsylvania from the 1760’s. Later relatives were avid antique enthusiasts and many collectables& antiques have been carefully stored and passed down. And here we are offering from this collection. ~~~~~ This is for a wonderful antique footed silver plate cake platter or bride's basket. The bottom reads:Meriden B. Company. Quadruple Plate. It is in very nice condition for it's age(dates around 1900-1910) and carries a lovely patina. Which will be left for the collector to decide whether to shine up or enjoy as is. It has no dings,dents or pitting but does show some typical vintage wear marks and one ... moredarker area around the top rim. The platter top graduates into a shallow recessed bowl and it has a quilted floral and foliage design and a top swivel handle, very pretty! While the piece is heavy and stands flat and sturdy with no wobble. The top does have some very slight warping(as per the second photo) very common of hand made pieces of the time. Real ornate and fancy old antique Meriden Silver Company Silverplate handled and 4 footed brides basket. Its a leaf form in bowl. It is marked in a small circle with the Meriden Company mark on a bottom base foot but I was unable to get a clear undistorted close up of it. Basket has no damage. Just some very light wear from age and past use seen only on very close up inspection is all. Basket bowl is 11" long. Bought from a very quality filled old estate.

Up for auction without reserve is this Brides Basket Pedestaled Dish by PAIRPOINT#1244 SilverPlate Handled Quadruple Plate. Stamped on the underside of basket is Pairpoint Mfg Co Quadrupple Plate 1244. This was made in the USA c 1900. Pairpoint Mfg Co was in existence from 1880 till 1958 but did not make silverplate after 1929. Approximate Size: 10 inches by 4 inches tall and 10 inches high(to top of handle) Weighs 1 ¾ pounds. The basket is a little warped out of shape after a 100 years and that gives it some character to it and it needs to be gently bent back into shape but quite useable as is. The handle goes up and down easily. Other than noted in the description and pictures there are no other dents. Nor dings, nor cracks, nor foul smells, and it’s clean. Marked on the bottom with the traditional makers mark“Meriden B. Company. Quadruple Plate, 1887” Dates to the early 1900’s. Measures a full 10 inches in diameter. 4 3/4 inch base diameter, 5 1/4 inches to top rim and 12 1/2 inches to top of the handle. Condition is great as there are NO chips. DESCRIPTION: Super ornate silver plated handled basket or possible Brides basket by Southington C.Co. Quadruple Plate and#74. Tray is 6 3/4" height.with handle is 13 1/2" height. Basket or tray is 10 1/2"L by 8 1/4"W. So detailed.pyramids. Elephants, trees, flowers, camels, people, horses, ferns, urns, peacocks, parrots.too much detail to describe! On the stand under the tray are 2.3 dimensional Kate Greenaway figures with even more details. This Southington Company was in business in 1892 and then purchased by Meridan Britannia in 1893. Kate Greenaway was born in 1846 and died in 1901. AND the Victorian Era was 1837 to 1901. So I am pretty certain these are Kate Greenaway figures although there are no marks to indicate this. This also has disc shaped feet. CONDITION: Will need a good polishing. Some polish residue in ... moredetails. There is a slight bulge in center tray where too much weight was put on it.probably during storage. Also one side of the tray rim is slightly bent. Could easily be displayed as it is or fixed as it isn't something that is readily seen. COMMENTS: This is just so beautifully detailed with most all areas displaying some neat design. The handle is square also and again so detailed. I can't imagine how much time was used to produce this. Successor to Manhattan Plating Co. became a subsidiary of International Silver Co. in 1898 New York, NY USA Basket is 9 ¼”across. 3” high, 10 1/2’ high with the handle Basket has scalloped edge that curves down with gentle detail on the inside of the scallop. The handle has floral detail and folds down. The four feet have an intricate pattern. Originating in the mid-18th century. Ornate silver Brides Baskets once added a bit of elegance and prestige to victorian weddings and are still used by many southern brides.
