SMITH& CO, MERIDEN, CT late 1800's early 1900's The featured item represents a pedestal tray or platter that measures approximately 3 1/4/ tall without handle. 9 1/4" in diameter at the inner rim, 10 1/2" at the outer rim and 4 3/4" at the bottom. The distance between the middle of the tray to the top of the handle when raised is about 8 1/2" The bridal basket features a rim with pattern made of big and small beads and etched"flowers and leaves" design on the inside area and a swivel handle with raised grip at the middle. The bottom is stamped with" Rogers Smith& CO/ Meriden CT. Quadruple 1913" Trademarks with the words Rogers Smith& Co. and Meriden CT were introduced in the early ... more1880s. At that time, the Rogers Smith& Co. was owned by the Meriden Britannia Co. The Meriden Britannia Co. became part of the International Silver Co. in 1897. Markings indicating"Quadruple" plate were dropped by the Meriden Britannia Co. in 1896 but Rainwater indicates that"some other makers" continued to use"Quadruple" marks until about 1912. The item comes in well-preserved condition for its antique age. Normal vintage wear like small tarnishing and dings and scratches here and there. The ornate and decorated areas have a nice patina on them. There is some solder work where the arch curved grip meets the handle but the tones blends very good. I have for bid a large Antique 1800's Silverplated Centerpiece Handled Basket Bowl. It measures 11 1/4" in diameter and 3 3/4" from rim to bottom. It has beautiful etched floral Victorian Design inside the bowl and beaded design around the entire rim and down the center of the handle. The only markings I see on the piece are the number 755 scratched in two places in the metal on the bottom base. Very beautiful piece and would be a great centerpiece. It is in excellent condition. This is a lovely antique silver plate handled basket with a crystal glass insert and silver lid. Nice for condiments. Sweet meats or jam/jelly serving. Ornate top, sides(located at the base of the handle) plus an ornate top on the lid. Couldn't find any trademarks, logos. The underside has a minor scratches and there is a small dent on the lid. There's a little bit of frayed marks on the inside(underneath where the insert is placed) Lovely etched columns on the crystal glass container. I pack with lots of wrap and package well for mailing. This auction is for a arts and crafts era style silverplated over copper basket frame only which will hold a 5" diameter glass dish. The silver frame does not have a manufacturer's mark. The silver base has an etched finish like a brocade. Probably acid etched with a gorgeous flat silver applied design which is 5 1/2" long by 1" high. The basket is 5 1/4" in diameter by 1 1/2" deep without handle and the handle adds 4 1/2" of height. Antique Victorian Brides Basket Wilcox Quadruple Silverplate Etched Birds Bees
This is a beautiful Silverplate Bride's Basket. Marked on the bottom: Quadruple Plate; Wilcox Silverplate Co. Meriden. Conn. 163 3 1/2(see photo#8) It stands approximately 12 1/2" tall to the tip of the handle and is 10" across the bowl portion. The inside of the bowl has a beautiful etched pattern of 4 birds(appear to be hummingbirds) over an arrangement of flowers and leaves with a little bee just to the left of each bird. The bowl rim is trimmed with a bell shaped pattern that has texture to it. Handle folds down and the top center has an open ring area for easy carrying that has 3 flower buds center top. The silver looks nice and shiny with only minor areas of tarnish that I'm sure will clean off easily. Condition is excellent. I'm not saying it's perfect and you may find a small ding or dent upon close examination. ... moreBut none are clearly visible. It has been treated with care over the years. Co. Material: Silver Plate/ Quadruple Age: It is not marked but this type of silver plate was used at the turn of the century so I think it would be between 1888– 1915. The Rockford Silver P. Co. operated from 1 882– 1956. Design: Etched flowers in the“bowl” and applies flowers and leaves on the top rim. Wonderful Victorian Meriden Silverplate Rectangular Fruit Basket Bowl Etched Cat
DELIGHTFUL MERIDEN VICTORIAN SILVERPLATE RECTANGULAR FRUIT BASKET WITH FINELY ETCHED CAT IN BOTTOM This turn of the century silverplate fruit basket is by Meriden and it's lovely with two reticulated cameos on the ends showing winged cherubs picking fruit and in the center. Leafy branches with a cat finely etched in the center. The cat is hard to see immediately and comes as a bit of a surprise, perhaps as a reward for eating the fruit. The piece is 10" by 7-3/4" and about 3" to the rim. With the handle up, it is about 10" tall. The handle does not stay up by itself and probably will need to be tightened a bit if that is how you'd like to display it. The four legs are beautifully decorated in Victorian style. I do not polish silverplate, so this basket has some tarnish but I do not see any silver loss, though it ... moreis possible there is some under the tarnish. Victorian Etched Silver Plate Cake Brides Basket Cherubs Wilcox circa 1875 6722
Pedestal cake basket with repoussé scroll work on the edge of the basket. The center of the basket has a design of cherubs/cupids pulling wagons filled with flowers. The cherubs have floral wreaths on their heads with butterflies flying above the wagons. These repeat 4 times around a central well. The handle is curled with a bead central handle. Most of the silverplate has worn off the handle. It has the number 6722 imprinted on the bottom
