Because it is stripped it hardly ever needs polishing. However, if you want to freshen it up go over it with polish every couple years. DESCRIPTION: Offered Here is a fabulous super ornate Victorian Silverplate circa 1870s Pedestal Swing Handle Bride's or Cake Basket. This basket is an early Aesthetic Victorian era Basket produced and plated by the Reed& Barton silversmiths of Taunton. Mass. The silver craftsmanship is excellent. This basket is supper ornate in ornamentation and has gorgeous molded figural elements. Including three winged heads on the pedestal base where it meets the bowl and curled acanthus leaf feet attached to the pedestal base with a central spire. There is an outstretched Fox and bird prey on the handle. The interior of the bowl is adorned with deep chased birds on an Oak and acorn branch that is entwined with Grape vines with clusters of grapes. There are ... morealso chased leaves on the pedestal base and four large spires pointing down from the ribbed edge of the bowl. This basket stands approx 7" in height with the handle down and 13" with the handle extended. It is 10" in diameter and stands on an ornate 5" pedestal base. The underside is marked for Reed& Barton with a Patent date of 1871 for the ornamentation above the Reed& Barton stamp. There are no breaks or repairs. There are some scratches from use and some slight silver loss to be expected from age. There is also some remnants of an old type paste silver polish. Pairpoint Silverplate Footed Figural Cake Basket Bird Handles
This is a stunning Pairpoint Victorian Silverplated handled cake basket. It has three-dimentional cherries and leaves in the bottom. Figural bird handles and flower decorated feet. It is 11" across one way and 14"across the other way with the handles. With the handle raised it is about 11" high. It is in lovely condition with no dings, missing parts or other damage. The hinge on the handle works fine. To tell you the truth I don't know whether I had it resilvered or not since I have owned it a long time. The mark on the bottom reads: Pairpoint Mfg. Co. This lonely basket stand is 5 ½” tall to the‘shelf’ and 7 3/8” between to bail or handle holders. The bowl/plate‘well’ is 7 3/8” in diameter. The stand bottom is 4 ¾” in diameter. The top or deck has etched or chased floral patterns while the handle has a reticulated flower and leaf patter. There are two sets of marks. This measures: 10" in diameter x 5 1/4" high This Cake Basket is in very nice old condition with light use wear and may have been re-plated at sometime. Back in the day. There are no dents. Dings, pitting, plate loss or mono. No matter which way I turn it. There is a slight lean to the piece. It is handled. But the handle won't stand on it's own. Barbour Silver Co. Victorian Silverplate Oval Brides Cake Basket Bright Cut
Welcome. While cleaning& organizing, I came across this beautiful Victorian brides cake basket in silverplate by the Barbour silver co. This one is a scalloped oval shape with a bright cut design inside& lots of ornate features, especially the handle& the footed base. It measures 8 1/2" x 11 1/2" x 3 3/8" tall(without the handle up) About 10" tall with the handle up but it doesn't stay up very well. It's a little tarnished but I don't see any loss of the silver plating on it. It weighs right at 2 lbs. without the packaging. It will be sent insured.

Do not know anything about this. Just thought it was very cute. Has a little hand written taped note on the back that it is a Silver Cake Plate. York, England. also is marked EPNS on the middle on the back. Also has some other little stamped letters on the back on the side. I have no idea what they say or what they are. The basket is in good condition. The handle moves easily side to side and stands up on its own. It is 11" across. There is some minor pitting from age but not bad. Thats all I know. This is a lovely antique silverplate Cake Basket made by Forbes in the mid to late 1800s. It has engraved decor around its border. A swivel handle, and a floral medallion in the center. The bottom has"striped" decor. It measures 11" x 9&1/2" tall. It is in real fine condition. There may have been something at the top of the handle(which has 3 round bands that join at the bottom. The inside measurement(where the bowl would sit)is 7&1/2" wide. This displays to great advantage.

Antique Silverplate Cake Basket, Swing Handle, Paw Feet, Acanthus Leaves
Recently acquired is this elegant antique silverplate swing handle cake basket. With paw feet and acanthus leaves in an open area decorating the top part of the basket. The top edge of the basket has beading and on each end are shells and wing-like decorations. Measurements: the approximate height(to top of the handle) is 10” the length is 13” and the width is 9 1/2” It is unmarked, so I do not know the origin of where it was made or the exact time period of manufacture. The style of the basket seems to be American Empire/early Victorian with the broad paw feet and acanthus leaves. This cake basket came from a local estate and the family representative indicated this belonged to a grandmother of the family. Condition: the top surface of the basket is quite good. With a couple of tiny dings to the flat inside surface. On the wing-like decoration ... moreat the end of the basket, one of the“wings” is missing a small piece along its top edge(this could well be original to the piece, see photos) The swing handle works well. The surface of the underside has a slightly more grey color appearance– I am not sure if this is original or if perhaps there was some attempt to put a protective coating on it. One paw foot is bent upward(very slightly) so that it does not sit perfectly flat and it raised slightly. The underside of the paw feet show wear which is what is expected of an old piece of silver. FINE ANTIQUE SILVERPLATE CAKE BASKET WITH RUFFLE EDGE CHARMING MAPPIN& WEBB CAKE BASKET Very good quality silver plate. Great pleated and ruffled edge. With a nicely matching wavy bale handle that moves well in invisible sockets. We date this cake basket or bride's basket to the 1940's though we see it listed also at a much earlier date. Near the Mappin& Webb mark on the bottom of the footed base are finely written numbers with letters that can only be seen in high magnification. These are probably manufacturers notations or platers. MANY PHOTOGRAPHS BELOW OUR DESCRIPTION The basket is well plated as is usual for Mappin& Webb. With only a few wear spots where the cakes would sit. Always best to use a napkin between the silver and the cakes, or a fancy paper doilly. We haven't given this a good cleaning. If we enjoyed ... morepolishing silver we would keep it. The handle has one point that looks to us like a very slight dent. Still in very good gift giving condition. Diameter at widest points is 10 and 1/4 inches. The pedestal is stepped& simplistic, heavy so as not to tip. The edge of the basket has moldings of swirling leaves& vines. The design inside the bowl are two bundles of bleeding hearts gathered together with ribbon-very Art Nouveau! For sale is a Victorian cake stand or bride's wedding basket. Great for displaying fruit. Guest soaps, floral arrangement.you name it! This basket is unmarked but is probably quadruple silver plate. It's incredibly ornate: The inside of the basket is decorated with six cherubs riding two-horned goats, two rabbits, three cherubs alone, and vines, grapes, and leaves. The inner rim is decorated with diamond shapes and arches over flowers. The outer(lower) rim of the basket and the lower rim of the base are decorated with flowers and dragonflies. The handle has an intricate filigree ornament. This cake stand is in excellent antique condition: The silver plate appears to be intact over most of the stand, with some wear on the handle; it should polish up nicely. The top of the handle might be slightly bent forward or it may have been made ... morethat way. I see some scratches in the center of the basket and a couple of minute(pencil point) dents in the rim. There is silver polish in spots. The handle will remain standing up if you wish. The stand measures 12" from table top to top of handle. Absolutely breathtaking! This is a lovely example of Meriden B Company’s quadruple plate at its best. This bridal or cake basket. Tray, or platter is apx. 9 ¾” in diameter. It stands apx. 5 ½” to the top of the plate, and has a handle apx. 5” tall, for a total of apx. 10 ½” in height. The handle has a floral design. And the inside of the basket has what look like daisies and leaves. The edge of the basket is exquisite with flowers and leaves. The base is 4-footed, and has a more stylized design. Condition: I think you will be very pleased with it. It does have a few scratches and tarnish. Please see the pictures– 12 of them. As they are part of the description. *RARE* Assyrian Head FOOTED CAKE Bride's BASKET - Quadruple Plate - Victorian
ASSYRIAN HEAD Footed CAKE or Bride's BASKET Rogers Smith& Co. Meriden. CT- Quadruple Plate- 1915 I have been a long time collector of this exotic Victorian era silverplate pattern- this is the first time I have seen an"Assyrian Head" basket! The facing profiles of a Greek or Roman man and woman. The full face of a Goddess with flowing locks of hair, and the distinctive pinwheels are familiar elements of the pattern that surrounds the inside of this basket. It stands on four reticulated feet- a design that is repeated on either side of the base where the swing handle is attached. The center of the bowl has a fancy monogram of three intertwined letters- possibly'C-S-M' a lovely decorative"period" accent to the piece. The handle has a beaded design. 10.25" wide. 9.75" high with handle up, 4" ... morehigh rim Condition: Outstanding! Previously Owned"used. Victorian era Antique- to be extremely critical, the rim edge is not perfectly round(slightly wavy as seen from the underside) I also found a few nicks or"tool" marks under the rim- the Silverplate is in Excellent condition with just a few minor scuffs and scratches- Beautiful! Circa 1890's

Dorchester, Mass. circa 1850- 1871 when the business closed. Features a lovely etched Ivy pattern. The oval basket stands 9" tall to the top of the handle and measures approximately 8" x 11" Hand polished to reveal no silver loss or dings/dents. There are some expected usage scratches present. The swing handle works well and will stay stationary in the upright position. Very shiny, please disregard all reflections. A gorgeous Civil War era basket! Antique Rogers& Bros. Silver Plate Cake Brides Basket C.1874 Cherubs Small darkened area. Lacquer residue. Lacquer residue. For your consideration is this spectacular silver plate cake brides basket made by Rogers& Bros. Circa 1874. This impressive basket stands a whopping 16" tall to the top of the handle and measures 10" square. The design elements are amazing, with rounded shell shaped corners, ornate etching and a raised center circle with a house and mountain motif. The pedestal base is just beautiful with back to back cherubs on a heart shape frame and a bottom floral band. There are no dings/dents or noticeable silver loss other than a few spots on the underside, but they do not show. The basket was once protected with a lacquer coat, however, there are just some orange/brown traces left in a few spots, see last 2 ... morepictures. A bit more polishing should remove it. The only issue to mention is if you pull the handle on 1 side it will come completely out, otherwise left alone, it does stay in place and works well. The handle swings nicely and will stay stationary in the upright position. This antique basket is certainly stunning. Paypal payment is expected within 3 days of auction end. Antique Van Bergh Silver Plate Cake Brides Basket C.1900 For your consideration is this antique silver plate cake brides basket made by Van Bergh Silver Plate Co. Circa 1900. Stands 9 1/4" tall to the top of the finial and measures 8 1/2" in diameter.the base is 4 1/2" in diameter. The top surface features both a shiny and burnished(non shiny) finish, very common in Victorian silver plate. The underside of the basket is shiny and the pedestal base is burnished. There is light silver loss present on the underside, but the burnished base is worn or it needs a bit more polishing. The basket has a slight tilt, 2 shallow pinpoint dings on the top surface and a dent on the top edge which doesn't show too much, see last picture.
