With an interesting handle. This has terrific large repousse flowers in the base with angled sides leading to a fabulous edge of complex shields. Founded in 1867. Wilcox was one of the founding companies of International Silver in 1898, with the name continuing to appear on items until 1961. James W. Tufts Quadruple Plate Footed Floral Bridal Basket #2768 GREAT CONDITION
Up for bid is a James Tufts Quadruple Plate Footed Floral Bridal Basket. Pattern number#2768, circa 1875-1915. I'm not too sure of the exact date on this piece, but from what I've researched, James Tufts began manufacturing Silver Plate Hollowware in 1875, and continued until his death in 1902. The company survived another 13 years, finally going out of business in 1915. This basket is a beautiful example of the fine and detailed work they did. It's got a twisted rope style handle. Scalloped edging, and is engraved with a multitude of various flowers- roses, Lily-of-the-Valley, sunflowers, thistle, poppies, Callalilies, pansies, dahlias, and mums. There are so many different flowers, that every time I look at the basket, I find a new one. The basket measures approx 9.5" in diameter. 3.5" high from foot to the rim and ... more8.5" high from foot to the top of the handle. It's in really great condition. With no real visible tarnishing. There does appear to be some scuff marks, but on closer examination, it's just the very fine engraving work on the flowers. Incredible! If you have any questions. Antique Webster Mfg Co Ornate Silver Footed Bridal Basket 1860's Uncleaned
This is a very rare and uniquely beautiful antique sliver footed bridal basket. The makers marker reads"Webster Mfg Co" and includes both the numbers 5 and 206. Webster Mfg Co was in business from 1859- 1873. I have left this uncleaned because I didnt want to risk reducing its value. There are two issues with it that I know of. First. The handle, though securely hinged to the basket, is slightly bent. The other part that is bent is one of the feet(visible in the final photo) These pieces seem to be pliable and may be able to be bent back into shape, but again, I didn't want to attempt it myself. Offered in this auction is this vintage footed bridal basket. I do believe it is a silverplate. Even if it is not marked that way. It does need a good clean up and I will leave that for the new owner. Very detailed at the edge and the inside of basket with a stork and ferns. Also look at the design on the handle. It looks to me, that it is bend a little. It stands 6 1/4 inch tall and with handle up about 12 inches. Basket on top measures 9 inch in diameter. Very nice vintage piece, which does need a little TLC.
