The quadruple plated silver basket was made by the MIDDLETOWN PLATE CO. See mark in picture provided. I have included a bit of MIDDLETOWN PLATE CO. history below. There are also some numbers on the bottom of basket and part of the marking says, HARD WHITE METAL" I polished the basket prior to taking pictures so that you can see much of the silver is gone from years of polishing. But there remains a nice patina. The metal basket is sturdy and sits level. It has a beaded rope design with flowers and tassels on the handle. The base has flowers and what seems to be an Asian influenced design. See pictures. The glass brides bowl is white with a teal color around the ruffled edge. When held up to the light the glass takes on a pearlescent look. See picture. It measures approximately 7 inches in diameter. It does have one barely noticeable chip in the glass. See pictures. Your eye is not immediately drawn to this and it does not detract from the beauty of the piece. This little basket is great to use for teas. Vintage Silver Plate Bridal Basket Middletown Plate Company
I don't know the age of this silverplate basket. It is marked 1821 Middletown Plate Company. Middletown, Conn. I had it replated, so the silver is good. For some reason, the picture shows the basket to not be level although it's not as obvious when looking at it. Polishing requires a gentle touch in order to avoid pressure on the pedestal. Basket with handle up is 10" tall. Bowl is 9" diameter. Handle will collapse or stay up on its own. Condition is good. I welcome any questions.

We are offering this antique silver-plate Middletown Basket. We bought it a couple of years ago when we were looking for a frame for a Mount Washington glass bowl. We've since sold the bowl so its time to get rid of the basket. The Basket is 10" wide and 9" high to the top of the bail. It is signed Mddletown Plate Quadruple Plate and is numbered 1833. It is also marked Hard White Metal. The center of the basket has some floral engraving. Condition is fair. The metal has a nice patina but the basket seems out of round as if one side was pushed down. We are offering this with an opening bid that is below our cost and no reserve. The company operated under this name until 1899 until it was taken over by International Silver Co. Excellent condition. No chips. Dings, scratches, repairs or damage. The mark on the bottom of the basket is an unknown mark, believed to once have been part of a museum collection liquidated by the owners in the early 1980s. This silver plate bridle basket sits on a pedestal that is designed with virtual lines that arch to form a wide band. Between each raised line is a pattern of fine horizontal lines to form a matt finish for the contrasting background for the raised pattern of leaves. Vines, arches, berries and buds. This pattern is repeated in the band of design that drapes over the top rim of the basket. The well of the basket is engraved with birds flying into a spray flowers and leaves. VICTORIAN MIDDLETOWN SILVER PLATE CO. - PINK CASED GLASS BRIDES BOWL or BASKET
Up for auction is a beautiful Victorian Berry or Fruit Bowl. Also known as a Brides Basket or Brides Bowl or Victorian Centerpiece bowl. This bowl is made from a beautiful rose or pink opaline-type glass cased with white glass and edged with gold or yellow translucent glass. This glass is sometimes referred to as peachblow but it is not. The edge of the bowl is ruffled and crimped. The bowl measures about 10" across at the widest and about 6" across at the narrow. It stands about 4" tall. The base of the bowl is 4.25" across at the foot. The bowl sits in a gorgeous silver plated frame made by the Middletown Plate Co. This frame is in wonderful condition. With almost no loss to the plate that I can see. There is residue from old lacquer and some light tarnish, but it should polish up nicely. The frame for this piece is ... morespectacular. It encompasses an apple at the top, cherries with stems and grapes. The detail on this is so finely done that it is a work of art in itself. The frame stands about 14.5" tall and is about 8.5" wide. The span between the handle(s) is about 7.5" approximately 3" up from the base. The base itself is 4.5" wide at the opening. I do not know if the bowl is original to the base as there is some play in the fit, but it does fit perfectly into the frame and when in place it sits well into the base so that it looks like a perfect match. The elaborate frame is a perfect compliment to the understated, but beautiful bowl. There is no damage at all to the glass; no chips, cracks breaks or repairs. The frame is clearly marked"Middletown Plate Co. and"Quadruple Plate" with the number 765 impressed. It is also stamped"Hard White Metal" Victorian art glass bowls such as this were often paired with elaborate brides basket frames(as they are called today) made by companies such as Meriden. Wilcox, James Tufts, Derby or Webster. I do not know who the maker of the bowl is. This could be a piece by Thomas Webb or one of the famous makers of

It was manufactured by Middletown Plate Company which operated from 1864- 1899. The Footed Basket stands 7" tall and is 9" x 9" across the bowl of the basket. It is marked on the base with pattern number 1797 along with the Middletown Plate Company hallmark. This lovely intricate antique basket displays beautifully. Quadruple Silver Plate Bride's Basket Middletown Plate Co. operated from 1864 until 1899 when it was absorbed into International Silver. Therefore this item is over 100 years old. Hallmark(stamped on the bottom of the stand) Middletown Plate Co. Quadruple Plate 1771 White Hot Metal- Includes a stamping of a set of scales Measurements- Height- 7" plus another 7" if the handle is extended Across- 9-1/2" Depth- 2" Condition- My practice is to polish the silver items that I am listing to be better able to identify anything that you would need to know. Please review photos very carefully. As this item has some damage as is often the case on an item of this vintage. This item is not perfect. There is a significant scratch across the base of the bowl and up into the decorated portion. This is a cut that can be felt with the ... morefingernail. Not a surface scratch. There is a 1/8" cut on the upper edge of the bowl that I was not able to photograph. There is a small ding(but not through the silver plate) on the bottom edge of the stand. See photo There are numerous surface scratches Please ignore photo glare and reflection. Polishing the silver makes it more difficult for me to get photos without the glare and reflection. VINTAGE QUADRUPLE PLATE SILVER MIDDLETOWN BRIDE'S BASKET& PINK PEACH BLOW BOWL Up for auction today is this gorgeous Victorian bride's basket with quadruple plate cradle/stand- marked Middletown Quadruple Plate- 873- hard white metal. It is footed with with raised designs as shown in photos. Overall height is 12-1/2. The bowl is gorgeous ruffled case glass- cranberry- not marked- possibly Peachblow- Webb- or Fenton. Antique Victorian era brides basket in very good condition with original glass basket that fits perfectly. It is approximately 12 inches tall x 10 inches wide. At widest point, handle of basket) The base of the silver plated basket is approximately 4.5 inches wide. The quadruple plated silver basket was made by the MIDDLETOWN PLATE CO. See mark in picture provided. I have included a bit of MIDDLETOWN PLATE CO. history below. There are also some numbers on the bottom of basket and part of the marking says, HARD WHITE METAL" I polished the basket prior to taking pictures so that you can see much of the silver is gone from years of polishing. But there remains a nice patina. The metal basket is sturdy and sits level. It has a beaded rope design with flowers and tassels on the handle. The base has flowers and what seems to be an Asian influenced ... moredesign. See pictures. The glass brides bowl is white with a teal color around the ruffled edge. When held up to the light the glass takes on a pearlescent look. See picture. It measures approximately 7 inches in diameter. It does have one barely noticeable chip in the glass. See pictures. Your eye is not immediately drawn to this and it does not detract from the beauty of the piece. This little basket is great to use for teas. Luncheons or dinners where it functions both as a decorative piece and a functional piece to hold berries, small cookies, or chocolates. MIDDLETOWN PLATE CO- Middletown CT business started in 1864.
