Rare & Wonderful Rogers and Smith SP basket-rope twist/beaded bail;Large& footed
You are looking at a most rare and unusual Rogers and Smith Victorian silver plated fruit basket; it has all the attributes of a far grander and far more expensive piece than I have seen in nearly 40 years. Tobegin with-it must have been purely a cabinet piece as there are no signs that theplating is anything other than perfect-couple of light scratches in the bowl but everything else is perfect. On top of t his-instead of heavy beading around the top of the bowl and the foot of the bowl-there is aheavy rope or barley twist taht is most outstanding-the twist around the fruit bowl being heavier than that around the raised pediment that the bowl sits on. Inside the bowl is what appears to be an engraved leaf pattern that is very delicate but large-some being chased and some engraved.teh handle or bail has yet another sized and multiple swags ... moreof this rope twisting.and there is a small cartouche atop the bail for having ones initials engraved but that has not been done. All in all a most impressive piece of silver and one that because of its size could be used almost daily on a table with fruit in it.it is oval shaped and 12 inches long; 9 inches wide and 11 inches tall to topof extended bail.4 1/2 inches tall with bail down. SMITH& CO, MERIDEN, CT late 1800's early 1900's The featured item represents a pedestal tray or platter that measures approximately 3 1/4/ tall without handle. 9 1/4" in diameter at the inner rim, 10 1/2" at the outer rim and 4 3/4" at the bottom. The distance between the middle of the tray to the top of the handle when raised is about 8 1/2" The bridal basket features a rim with pattern made of big and small beads and etched"flowers and leaves" design on the inside area and a swivel handle with raised grip at the middle. The bottom is stamped with" Rogers Smith& CO/ Meriden CT. Quadruple 1913" Trademarks with the words Rogers Smith& Co. and Meriden CT were introduced in the early ... more1880s. At that time, the Rogers Smith& Co. was owned by the Meriden Britannia Co. The Meriden Britannia Co. became part of the International Silver Co. in 1897. Markings indicating"Quadruple" plate were dropped by the Meriden Britannia Co. in 1896 but Rainwater indicates that"some other makers" continued to use"Quadruple" marks until about 1912. The item comes in well-preserved condition for its antique age. Normal vintage wear like small tarnishing and dings and scratches here and there. The ornate and decorated areas have a nice patina on them. There is some solder work where the arch curved grip meets the handle but the tones blends very good. I have polished this just a wee bit in order to show the details. The new owner can leave as is or polish it up, it has has a exceptional design deep floral engravings covering the top inside of the basket and a roman warrior medallion on each end. The detail is great considering the age. It is in good antique used condition. I think this is a bride's basket. I just thought it was lovely& decades later still seems to move easily& well( handles) lovely detail. It is in need of more polishing. Bottom says. Rogers Smith& Co. New Haven, Ct. No. 1701 is imprinted on bottom. Base is 4.5" wide. Bowl is 7" high with the handles raised is about 10.5" high. The handle swings easily& the top has a profile of a woman. On either side of the bowl is a raised area with a profile of a woman in Grecian hair& headband. The bowl is 9" across& the center area depresses this area is about 3" wide. Has lovely leaf patterns. This quadruple bridal basket and matching blue glass bridal bowl were made in the early 1880's. The bottom is marked with Rogers& Smith Co- Meridan#1974 USA and etched with 37663-3. The basket itself is very detailed with bows and roses. The handle is engraved with what I believe to be a"Y" initial. The glass is a beautiful shade of blue with double crimping and a similar rose pattern. There are no markings that I can find on the glass itself and it is in mint condition with no chips or cracks. This has been a personal favorite in my collection of glass since purchasing it at an estate auction in Ohio back in 2005. Victorian Rogers Smith Co Meriden Silverplate Mt. Washington Glass Brides Basket
This lovely Silverplate and Enameled Art Glass Brides Basket measure about 10-5/8" in diameter and 3-3/8" tall when assembled. The Silverplate bottom has a bit of tarnish and maybe missing a handle. The mount was produced by Rogers. Smith& Co. around during the last quarter of the 19th century. The company was out of business by'04. We believe the basket was produced by Mt. Washington Glass co. It is unsigned. The glass has some enamel loss, but is largely in very nice condition with no chips or cracks. The bottom of the bowl does have a polished pontil as would be expected.

This is a brides wedding basket made of silver plate. Made by Rogers and Smith New Haven Connecticut between 1865-1873. It is 12.5 inches long and 8.5 inches wide. It is 3 1/2 inches tall. The handle is 8 1/2 inches tall. It is a beautiful piece even though it has some worn spots inside the basket. It is stamped with the numbers 4567 and I can find no reference to these numbers. I believe it is in the Medallion Pattern which is very old. There appears to be very small almost pinpoint pit marks in the base of the“bowl of the basket. However the rest of the basket appears to be so mint one would think it had been re-plated. Overall the basket is in excellent condition commensurate with age. Please review the pictures. Rogers, Smith & Co. New Haven, Conn. Silver Plate Brides Basket, 1862-1877
This beautiful silver plate Bride or Fruit Basket. 1868 was manufactured by Rogers, Smith& Co. in New Haven Connecticut. The mark indicates that it was made between 1862-1877. This large oval basket measures 11 3/4" by 8 3/4" and stands 9" tall when the handle is up. The edges of the basket have raised detailed flowers that is repeated on the edges of the oval foot. The interior of the basket has a cut-out rim. Is raised in the center, and has carved flowers and fruit bouquets. There are a few light scratches consistent with it's age. But no dings or dents to otherwise mar it's beauty.
