Homan Silver Quadruple Plate Bride Basket
This is a Homan Silver Plate Company Quadruple Plate Bride Basket. Often called a Cake Basket. In the Victorian Era, the Brides Basket or Cake Basket was used on a regular basis for serving cakes or treats with Coffee or Tea. It was such a'necessary' item that every new Bride was given one as a gift.thus called a"Bride Basket" This basket is rather old. But is sturdy and stands up straight. Please note that the basket is missing some of its silver on the topside. The underside and handle have quite a bit of missing silver. See picture 4. This is more for the Shabby Chic decorator who DOESN'T want bright, shinny, completely in-tact silver. The basket is decorated with hand chased daisy's and flowers. The handle will stand up fairly well or sit down against the basket. The basket measures 7 1/2" high and 9 1/2" ... morewide from handle to handle. The basket sits 2 1/4" up from the table. The handle alone is 5 1/2" high from the base upward. The base is 5" wide where it sits on the table. Silver Baskets are often used for Dinner Rolls. Desserts, Fruit or Candy. This piece would be beautiful used in any way. The basket has been lightly cleaned and ready for your use. Please review all information and pictures carefully. It has an anchor and company name plus the number 565 stamped and the number 155 hand etched on the bottom. There are two small faucets on the underside of the front lip on the lower front lip. Beautiful Large Vintage Silver Basket With Handle-By Homan-Circa 1903 This is an elegant. Quadruple silverplated, large silver basket for florals. In the early years, this type of basket was sometimes used for live flowers, and thus the name"Bride's Basket. In today's usage, the flowers would probably be"silk" floral arrangements, so as to avoid the water. The baskets also show off fruit arrangements very well for that special centerpiece. Groups of sculpted silver flowers are arranged around the edge of the basket. And on the handle. The handle is not designed to stand up on its own, but swings freely from one side to the other. There are no monograms, or dents. There is some small water damage to the inside bottom of the basket. In use, these would never show. Please see the photos below. The basket has a very attractive ... morecut-out design. And would make a wonderful display on any table. It is larger than most. Others are much smaller and plainer in design. The basket is 12-1/2" long by 9" wide. It stands 11-1/2" high with the handle upright. The bowl is 5-1/2" deep. The basket is made by Homan. The Maker's Mark is on the bottom. Number 2528. And Special Metal, are stamped on the bottom. Circa 1903. This basket was owned by the same family for over 100 years. This is a rare find. Vintage Homan Plate Nickel Silver Brides Basket
Here is an old nickel silver basket made by Homan. The markings are Homan Plate on Nickel Silver Made in U.S.A 0574. The baskets diameter is 10 inches and the height is 2.5 inches. When the handle is upright the basket measures about 9 inches tall. There are also 4 bouquets of flowers equally spaced around the outer edge. As seen in the pictures. This basket is tarnished.
